from the guardian

A political row has broken out in Israelafter about 50 Palestinian detainees from Gaza were released, including Muhammad Abu Salamiya, director of the al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City.
Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s far-right internal security minister described it as “security recklessness”. Haaretz reports that sources close to defense minister Yoav Gallant have said he was not aware that the release was planned, and that he was not involved.

From the guardian

Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has suggested there could be partial suspension of military operations in Gaza to allow young children to be vaccinated against polio.
In a statement, Netanyahu’s office denied an Israeli television report that there would be a general truce during the vaccination campaign which begins on the weekend, but said it had approved the “designation of specific places” in Gaza.
“This has been presented to the security cabinet and has received the support of the relevant professionals,” the statement said.

Some good news. From the guardian

A polio vaccination campaign in Gaza is planned to begin on Sunday, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said.
The WHO said that Israel’s military and the Palestinian militant group Hamas have agreed to three separate, zoned three-day pauses in fighting in Gaza to allow for the first round of vaccinations of 640,000 children against polio.
The vaccination campaign is due to start on Sunday, with the pauses scheduled to take place between 6am and 3pm, said Rik Peeperkorn, the World Health Organization’s senior official for the Palestinian territories.

It's still hard to get my head around that they'll pause the fighting for this but are happy to kill, injure and traumatise tens of thousands of children for 10 months straight.

Amazing how fast they can move when there's a threat of disease spreading to Israeli children.

I know. So hard to get your head around when statistically some of those children vaccinated on Sunday are likely to be killed in the subsequent weeks

Pleased to see this and hope that it happens - highly infectious lethal/disabling illness which was eradicated from Gaza 35 years ago

Good on them for highlighting the injustices against Palestinian health care workers. After all the leaks on how detainees are treated, I dread to think what they must be enduring.

From BBC

According to OCHA - the UN office for Humanitarian Affairs - an average of 69 humanitarian trucks entered the Gaza Strip per day between 1 to 25 August, well below the pre-crisis daily average of 500 trucks.

From the guardia
Louise Wateridge, a spokesperson for the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, has said nearly 2,000 children were vaccinated against polio on Sunday.
But she added: “If the bombing continues after 2:00 pm this is of course going to impact the vaccination campaign... The only way to do this is a ceasefire.”

Shocking number, such a loss to the people of Gaza. May they rest in peace

UN inquiry accuses Israel of crime of 'extermination' in destruction of Gaza health system

EasterIssland · 11/10/2024 13:42

From un twitter account.
UN Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory: #Israel has perpetrated a concerted policy to destroy #Gaza’s healthcare system as part of a broader assault on Gaza, committing war crimes and the crime against humanity of extermination.
