This doesn’t bode well.

watching currently on the news

anythinginapinch · 19/04/2024 07:44

It's awful. I avoid the news detail. Even skimming the headlines leaves me feeling sick. It's all ... Bloody men bloody religion bloody power bloody men

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/04/2024 07:47

Idiots.

Uk says it's self defence. How can that be if the uk struck their embassy first?

GrazingSheep · 19/04/2024 07:48

What will America do now. Israel had defied Biden by doing this.

ConnieCounter · 19/04/2024 07:51

Horrendous. So many people at the mercy of these absolute lunatics.

takemeawayagain · 19/04/2024 07:53

Netanyahu is a complete liability. It's an awful situation.

Iamacatslave · 19/04/2024 07:58

Crossing the rubicon.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/04/2024 07:58

I think Netanyahu might be a lunatic actually

Agree. I've been questioning him and his ideas for a while now.

He seems hellbent on "retaliation" for every situation. And he attacked the embassy first in this instance.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/04/2024 08:24

They've bombed the city which is home to Iran's nuclear facilities. Are they psychotic??

Pancakee · 19/04/2024 08:28

I can’t believe that the majority of people in Israel support this. Can they not get someone else in charge?

Auvergne63 · 19/04/2024 08:29

I wonder how the USA are going to react now.
Do the Israeli people feel safer today?

Noicant · 19/04/2024 08:38

I don’t think this is reactionary, Israel is making it clear that a direct attack will be responded to. Iran uses proxies to avoid direct confrontation and is playing this down. I think this is a message rather than a ramping of hostility. Iran basically said after their attack on Israel that they considered the matter closed, Israel is saying attack us again and there will be consequences. Israel could have done a lot worse.

AgentProvocateur · 19/04/2024 08:41

And yet the U.K. and US continue to fund and arm Israel. Netenyahu needs removed.

Israel is directly attacking Iran but that's ok, despite Iran having stated that, as you put it, "the matter is closed".
What do you expect Iran to do now? They have a right to self defence, don't they?
Israel is behaving like a bully who has the back up of his big brother. Remove it and Israel has a serious problem.
Don't poke the bear if you are not prepared to face the consequences.

Newbutoldfather · 19/04/2024 08:56

It’s all a bit weird, like two boxers lightly slapping each other on the cheek.

I don’t think either Israel or Iran wants a full scale war but they may end up having one anyway.

Iran launches a bunch of projectiles designed to be intercepted and Israel counters with a symbolic attack so light it appears to have done next to no damage.

The problem is whether Iran now feel compelled to live up to their threat of a more significant operation and then Israel may do something very serious, like attempting to take out Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Maybe the above is Israel’s intention, provoke a serious strike without being considered the aggressor and get U.S support for something far more significant.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/04/2024 09:18

I feel very strongly that we in the uk should wash our hands of it. We gain nothing by supporting them and potentially lose a great deal.

Newbutoldfather · 19/04/2024 09:25

There is a massive difference between supporting Israel in hostile actions and helping it defend itself.

Israel is a long term strategic ally of NATO and the only Jewish state in the World.

They have gone too far in Gaza and we need to convey that message strongly, but Iran are a massive mischief maker, trying to destroy Israel via proxies for years. We need to stand firmly with Israel against any attack from Iran.

The UK hasn’t bombed any Iranian embassies or consulates.

@Newbutoldfather
To what end? what would be the risk to UK citizens? would it be a repeat of Iraq and Afghanistan?

He clearly feels he has a lot of wrongs to put right, that and a mindset from eras long gone (much like Putin in some ways) of protecting and maintaining what is ‘his’ and what’s important to him. Clearly can’t be guided or advised and has people around him enabling

Newbutoldfather · 19/04/2024 09:33

@dulra,

Noone wants to invade Iran!

Support would look like it did in the first missile attack, intelligence and shooting down Iranian missiles.

If you take Iran and its proxies out of the ME equation, you could see a long term settlement between Israel and the rest of the Arab world.

I do feel like he’s had enough of the cat and mouse game with Iran and is in his direct action phase. Time will tell if that’s the right or wrong approach it could escalate the situation wildly or totally stop it

The UK does not fun Israel and only the US, Germany and Italy supply arms.
