I've just discovered MC Abdul, a 15 year old lyrical genius from Gaza, still rapping 3 months into the genocide cos the beat never goes off

Who else should I be listening to?

Haters? How childish.
What is hateful about calling for their release of hostages taken by the psychotic hamas supporters....or do you agree with their actions?

Haters?

Yeah because your comments and those of the other derailers on this thread are a fantastic display of maturity 🤣

Good choice. I'll never feel the same about that song now.

The Hatikvah.

Humdingerydoo · 24/01/2024 10:37

English translation:

Let the sun rise
light up the morning
The purest of prayers
will not bring us back
He whose candle was snuffed out
and was buried in the dust
bitter crying won’t wake him up
and won’t bring him back
Nobody will bring us back
from a dead and darkened pit
here,
neither the victory cheer
nor songs of praise will help

So just sing a song for peace
don’t whisper a prayer
Just sing a song for peace
in a loud shout

Allow the sun to penetrate
through the flowers
don’t look back
let go of those departed
Lift your eyes with hope
not through the rifles’ sights
sing a song for love
and not for wars

Don’t say the day will come
bring on that day
because it is not a dream
and in all the city squares
cheer only for peace

So just sing a song for peace...

Beautiful

I think the haters referred to are probably the islamic fundamentalist lurkers that that were grossly offended by queer Palestinian pop music.

No objections at all to songs urging the return of any hostages regardless of who is holding them, I hope they are all returned home soon.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I also found this, which is lovely and showcases how beautiful Gaza was.

You "shouldn't" be listening to anything. You "can" be listening to what pleases you. What a bizarre way to show solidarity. Boycotting, marching and listening to music.

people can show solidarity to whatever cause they want however they want. What’s bizarre is you commenting that others “can” do what they want, and then criticizing when they do exactly that i.e. people can, and are choosing, to show solidarity through boycott, music and marching.

your comment appears to be aimed at pro Palestinians given your reference to boycotts, but you’d do well to remember there have been songs and marches in support of Israel and also against antisemitism.

Great thread @Cailleachian please ignore the haters.

This one by Mohamed Assaf has become a popular song of protest and resistance. The singer won the Middle East version of Pop Idol several years ago and has since become very successful. He’s from a refugee camp in Gaza.

The song got removed from Spotify but after a massive backlash it was reinstated. The Israelis then tried make their own version of it 😂😂

I was going to post this, great song!

I see the awful derailing comments are still going on even after a long hiatus from this board. Only bad attempts at humour, perhaps they don't realise this isn't a funny situation. Hmm. I wonder what reactions there would be if someone so nastily derailed a thread about hostages, not so jovial I guess.

I think you'll find all the hostage or antisemitism threads have been derailed multiple times. And no one has derailed this thread in any kind of nasty ways. No one (as far as I can see, anyway) has mocked any of the songs posted so there really has been no nastiness apart from people calling others haters, and then of course your own post just now.

quantumbutterfly · 24/01/2024 19:18

I think Sunday Bloody Sunday has a very appropriate feel at the mo.
Also Chrissie Hynde's version of Forever Young.

& As pp said, for fans of simple minds (!) 'don't forget about me' has a powerful resonance right now.

Yep, it's a shame that certain posters feel the need to bring attempts at humour into it, to put others, and their viewpoints, down. I suppose it says more about them!
