I've just discovered MC Abdul, a 15 year old lyrical genius from Gaza, still rapping 3 months into the genocide cos the beat never goes off

Who else should I be listening to?

Release the hostages...it's a really catchy tune with very simple lyrics.

Olinguita · 23/01/2024 08:46

We also want the release of the hostages. Make up a nice tune and we can sing that too.

He's not in Gaza. He's been in the US - from before October.

I thought it sounded american rap inspired

Cailleachian · 23/01/2024 10:18

@gestroopd

Yeah, it's awful. Can you imagine going for a short trip abroad at 14 then being unable to return, not knowing if your family are going to make it through each day.

But hes still rapping. Impressive kid.

Not my type of music, but you are right, that is a haunting song.

I thought it was an open air prison that people couldn't leave?

Cailleachian · 23/01/2024 13:06

Prior to October the Rafah crossing to Egypt was open for Gazans who had travel permissions for a third county.

Great thread @Cailleachian please ignore the haters.

This one by Mohamed Assaf has become a popular song of protest and resistance. The singer won the Middle East version of Pop Idol several years ago and has since become very successful. He’s from a refugee camp in Gaza.

The song got removed from Spotify but after a massive backlash it was reinstated. The Israelis then tried make their own version of it 😂😂

Haters? How childish.
What is hateful about calling for their release of hostages taken by the psychotic hamas supporters....or do you agree with their actions?

BunniesRUs · 24/01/2024 07:45

We like Pete the Temp! Power to the People, and also Dont Watch The News, Be the News are my faves.

Desertrose2023 · 24/01/2024 07:48

Another good one by Mohammed Assaf. It’s in Arabic but quite catchy, the title of the song is “Raise your Kuffiyeh”. I’d fast forward to about 2 mins in as that’s when it gets going, the first two mins are just slow intro. you can find the translation to the song on google.

What’s childish is coming on a thread about music regarding solidarity for Palestine and trying to derail it. Then acting disingenuously about doing that.

I am posting about the thread topic, nothing else can or should be inferred from my responses. Thanks and have a lovely day 😊

quantumbutterfly · 24/01/2024 07:56

The thread is just titled solidarity playlist...the title is not partisan. I think tubthumpning is an excellent song.
Also 'the only way is up' by yazz..

Desertrose2023 · 24/01/2024 08:01

This one is quite haunting. It’s been set to so many images of the Palestinian children killed by the Israeli army over the past few months.

Nah tubthumpning is a bloody awful song. The only way is up is a belter though.

quantumbutterfly · 24/01/2024 08:22

Fair enough.
Set me free by the Supremes is a belter.
