A man attacked people by the tour Eiffel with a hammer.

"Mr Darmanin said the alleged attacker was heard shouting "Allahu Akbar", Arabic for "God is greatest", and told police he was upset because "so many Muslims are dying in Afghanistan and in Palestine".
The suspect is also understood to have suggested France was complicit in the deaths of Palestinians in Gaza."

We can expect more of this in future. Hamas and their cronies have made it clear that the west is next.

BethDuttonsTwin · 03/12/2023 18:35

I saw a tweet about this last night but not a sign of it on any main steam media, not even this morning. It was so disquieting and I did wonder, if this is it now. These attacks won’t be reported anymore and we just won’t know about them. Relieved to see it reported.

Agree @PurpleChrayne

Pizdietz · 03/12/2023 18:35

I've been accused of Islamophobia.

The funny thing is, I absolutely love Islamic culture - mathematics, sacred geometry, music, etc.

However. We can't pretend that this wonderful philosophy, when corrupted by religious nutcases (just as Christianity has been over the centuries), does not result in absolute mayhem.

To me, this is a coming of age. Can people just stop screaming "Islamophobe!!!" and start screaming, "7 October not in my name!?!

Just to add some context, Hamas aren’t linked to Islamist Jihadi globalists, they are nationalists who are solely interested in their region.
This terrorist was a French Iranian and nothing to do with Hamas. Islamist terrorism is a huge problem in France but you can’t say it’s linked to Hamas.

BethDuttonsTwin · 03/12/2023 18:44

Any concerns expressed about such attacks are dismissed as “Islamophobia”. I’ll never forget the dismissive attitude of parents right here on MN, when the toddlers were stabbed in Annecy. No thread at all for most of the day and when there was, the overall tone was that it was Islamophobic/bigoted to even be discussing it and expressing concerns about how we came to be here. Babies playing in a park, stabbed and the priority was ensuring that it was discussed in line with the strict controls that have been implemented around questioning the preferred political narrative.

I used to have an account on here. ("Alcemeg"). I deleted it and no longer post without falsifying my IP address. You really can't be too careful when dealing with this level of terrorism. I know that Mumsnet is supposed to be safe. But Islamofascism has proved again and again that the more harmless and pointless the target, the better.

Edited to add: I know this is paranoid! But truth is, my home is now occupied by Ukrainian refugees. This is not a joke and I only mention it here by way of pointing out how ridiculous this "Pro Palestine" shit is. My husband is Russian.

For God's sake, this has nothing to do with Hamas! Get your facts right and your paranoia under control.
The man arrested has known mental health issues and was under the police radar. They should have stopped this before it happened.

etmoiandme · 03/12/2023 19:11

It was reported right across the MSM last night. I read a lot of the French press anyway, but I did check the UK media and it was being reported almost immediately.

Cattiwampus · 03/12/2023 19:29

It’s not as if terror attacks are a new thing though. My parents were celebrating their wedding anniversary in London. On 7/7. Unhurt, but there were 56 dead and 784 injured. That was 18 years ago.
islamic terrorist attacks have replaced bombing campaigns by the IRA in London. They didn’t need to change the warning notices, or the bins.

It's really weird what goes on in France.

I'm actually thinking of moving to France! despite the fact that I last lived in France in the 1980s, and swore I'd never set foot in the place again.

There were certain elements of the population that made my life a misery. Followed me in the streets, shouting abuse. I didn't dare set foot outside after dark. On return to the UK, if I saw a man in the street, I automatically crossed to the other side of the road and kept my eyes down.

For purely selfish reasons (and sorry for my naivety), I'd be grateful if you could explain why France is in such a pickle? Is it just cities? Is is more dangerous than the UK?

Yes, I've just been accused of Islamaphobia for pointing out hate speech.
Crazy.

Disturbing.

FFS there are religious fundamentalists all over the world, Islamic, Jewish, Christian. Google it, there were at least a few from each major religion this year alone.
Stop trying to lump all Muslims together and claim they are all terrorists. Utter bigotry.

My family are Muslim. I know well that not all 1.8billion Muslims in the world are terrorists.

but in the west, the biggest terrorist threats and activities are done in thr name of Islam. And it’s not like the IRA campaign - there are no coded warnings and the IRA was not targeting little girls at concerts.

No one is claiming all Muslims are terrorists.

The "problem" with France is it is impermeable to guilt tripping, gaslighting and brainwashing on a national scale.
There are more terror attacks but there are no nationwide protests in support of extremism as there are in the UK. That's precisely why there are more terror attacks. France is not going to be culturally co-opted.

Pardon? The perpetrator is not a Hamas terrorist. Why bring Hamas into it? Is it because he is a Muslim, therefore he must be a terrorist? He is mentally ill and what he did is vile. That's all.

This comment hasn't aged very well. Turns out Hamas want death of all Jews, not just the ones in Israel.

Sorry, I really didn't go through all threads looking for your comment, I only came across it today because the thread was pushed to the top thanks to recent comments.

And people are accused of antisemitism when they criticise Israel.

We should all be able to express views against terrorists/IDF etc without being accused of Islamophobia or antisemitism. The often unjustified accusations of prejudice are so frustrating.

Mother reported he had 'turned in on himself'.

Under surveillance for extreme views. Converted to Islam at 18 and wanted to go to Syria to fight.

Mental illness treatment failure reported.

Ends up killing a German tourist.

You could argue all lone wolf terrorists are mentally ill. You'd have to be to kill random people whilst praising a god. Others might say evil intentions. Some people might be easily led to direct action or nudged that way. Either way an innocent tourist was murdered.

The police stated that he was known by them to have mental health problems. Trust me, the French police is not known for their soft touch on anything. I am French, I should know.
