Conflict in the Middle East

What difference will marches make?

Show me an MP who will resign from their party as a result of their party’s stance on the conflict. Whilst a few may make noises, they all know that it is the party that butters their bread.

The next general election will be about the familiar topics of the NHS, education, tax and immigration. By the next election these marches will play little or no part in the way people vote. Both Sunak and Starmer know this, hence marches will do little or nothing to change foreign policy. Apart from showing empathy with fellow human beings, on a practical level, they have so far, achieved zilch.

That’s the sad truth.
Please convince me otherwise.

Personally, I will not vote for either of the main parties from now on.

Straw man argument.

The march was calling for ceasefire.

70% of the UK support that call.

Many times have I supported Israel's right to defend itself.

Many times have I condemned the Hamas terrorists and the release of all hostages.

Like the vast majority of the UK none of the above is conflicting with horror at the massive suffering and death of innocents on such an unimaginable scale.

In that case we are actually saying the same thing then. I can tick off all of what you just posted. We are just coming at it from different angles.

What uk frontbenchers or other MPs do isn't going to affect the conflict. Especially a shadow party having issues.

What is a much more interesting read and does affect the conflict is the Arab leaders meeting

If you read it all through it sounds like they plan to continue to just make noises to appease their own Muslim percentage of population. However theyvare in fact sticking to whatever deal they had with Israel and the PA at the shaking hands meeting in the first week or so. Then if probably most will be back to rubbing shoulders with Israel in the near future.

For a BBC article it isn't actually anti Israel or Jew. Miracles happens, they have just reported the facts of the meeting with a slightly neutral commentary

Around 67 million people in the UK

Biggest Protest 300k

🙄

Don’t go by the figures in the media. The first protest was around 150k. The second was around 300k. The 3rd one around 500k and the last one last weekend was definitely 1 million. You had to be there to realise the numbers.

I think they are part of a bigger picture - - there are other conversations - interviews on tv, opinion articles. Podcasts - and all that is important to highlight the conflict but also the Israeli apartheid. Generally public opinion is changing and that does put pressure on the government.

I think it will become most important after this war. God only knows what will be left but I don’t think israel are going to be able to reoccupy Gaza without a very big fuss from the international community.

I am going off the figures the Metropolitan police force has said. They crowd control for protests and events all the time. So way more accurate than the figures given in the press and by other organisations. The police tend to be less bias in their estimates too.

Sorry I live in London and that definitely was no where near a million people. We have had plenty of events recently with massive crowds and last weekend was not one of them. Seriously the trains were no more busy than on a football day too.

The wests really doesn't make much difference in all this and the future of Israel or Gaza. Apart from American and they are largely pro Israel. Though mostly because they rather incorrectly see Jews as white and Arab are not etc, so basic racism. Also the exstemists Christians believe Jews have to be in the Holy land at the end of time, this is Trump's religious beliefs. On top of that there are a lot of Jewish people in America and they are voters.

The people that could change things easily and who Israel would actually try to stay friends with and will affect the future of Israel if they reject it are middle eastern countries. However the leaders held a meeting and plan to continue the noises they make for their own Muslim percentage. However not much else. Plus the general feeling from observers is in the near future most arab states will continue to build bridges with Israel

'Looks like assorted Shadow Ministers are resigning tonight over a symbolic vote of no consequence to placate their Hamas fan clubs. We'll have a complete list of the attention seeking non-entities in the morning.'
