"A former Hamas chief is behind one of the groups organising the pro-Palestine Armistice Day protests, The Telegraph can disclose.
Muhammad Kathem Sawalha led the proscribed terrorist group in the West Bank in the late 1980s and is alleged to have “masterminded” its military strategy with involvement as recently as 2019, before moving to Britain where he lives in a London council house.
He is a founder of the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB), one of six groups behind the under-fire march in London on November 11, and Israeli authorities claim his son, Obada Sawalha, is now its vice-president.
The revelation comes as The Telegraph has discovered that half of the groups organising the march - who are still defying calls from the Metropolitan Police to call it off - have links to Hamas.
It has fuelled further pressure for it to be cancelled, with the chairman of the all-party parliamentary group (APPG) on anti-Semitism saying that it “proves that these marches are not about peace” and the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism describing this newspaper’s findings as “extremely serious”. "

Do those going on marches know they are being organised by Hamas/terrorist supporters?

Hamas chief 'hiding in bunker' as Israel presses Gaza offensive

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is “hiding” in a Gaza bunker after being cut off from other members of the terrorist group, Israel has claimed.

I know the organisers of my local marches, they most definitely are not Hamas.

That great news @OuiOuiKitty just humanitarian then?

I hope that they are also speaking out about the atrocities on 7th October

Of course that was condemned weeks and weeks ago at this stage. Why would it not have been?

I’m really interested to know why the majority of MN are in support of Israel and don’t actually care what happens in Palestine. It’s not a representation of what I come across in real life and my social media feed so I wonder why that is? Anyone care to explain in a civil matter?

It's a fair observation. There are hundreds of thousands of people protesting around the world for a ceasefire, yet on Mumsnet all I see is denial. Denial that this is genocide. Denial that this is breaking the UN convention of human rights. Denial that this violence isn't justified.

It's personally made me feel sick to the stomach reading some of the views on here. And please don't label me anti-Semitic or a Hamas sympathiser for this opinion!

No I'm sorry OP but I don't think a strike will work, but I can see the desperation to get our government to pay attention and put pressure on Israel to stop now.

Humdingerydoo · 07/11/2023 22:51

@MinnieL
Do you genuinely believe that most people on MN support Israel? I feel very much that those who support Israel are in the minority and just get shouted down and accused of promoting genocide. Or, of course, of being bots.

Anyway, to answer your question. I only support Israel on anonymous forums because I'm genuinely scared of any repercussions to my family if I were to be vocal about it in real life. My family has previously been sent death threats for being pro-Israel, both by post and phone. My sibling beaten up for supporting Israel. When there was a rally for the hostages in London the other week, people were making plans to travel there in groups as it isn't safe to do so alone. This was for a peaceful meeting just to pray for the safe return of hostages - not anything to do with Palestinians.

So anyway, in my opinion, this is why online is different from real life - a lot of us just don't dare openly support Israel in real life as we're simply scared. It's not really fair of me to speak on behalf of other though I suppose. But that's how my family and I feel anyway. Intimidated.

I just don’t get it tbh

I tend not to read too many threads on here because I find so many views quite depressing but yes I’d say so. I find more people in support of Israel and those that dare stand with Palestine are frequently mocked.

Interesting to hear your views on why you don’t voice the fact that you support Israel in real life. Maybe there’s more people who feel the same as you

HaveALaff · 08/11/2023 05:07

From what I see more posters support Palestine but the few Israeli supporters post a lot more. So the threads are never a good representation.

fuckssaaaaake · 08/11/2023 06:37

I would prefer to raise money for them (which I am) if this happens (numerous times) as my business will be in danger. And yes obviously that's a small problem compared to what they're going through but me losing my business won't help

Dontknowwhyidoit · 08/11/2023 07:15

What Israel is doing is like shooting fish in a barrel, they are the 4th largest army in the world. There is no comparison. I am in disbelief that you can think it is ok. You need to do more than give your head a wobble.

I'm so sorry to hear this. In my circle and the area I work in the default position is certainly support for Palestine as the poor victims and at least resistance to any Israeli position as they are seen as white colonisers with lots of money. Which all reflects how little people know, and the inherent antisemitism. It is very hard to try and unpick this because its literally part of their world view. Currently pro-Israeli voices are completely drowned out in the sector I work in. Most worryingly there is no empathy for the victims of 7 october. This dehumanisation is very troubling and is why Jewish people are so scared I think.

ChalkWitch · 09/11/2023 09:33

A strike? What an absolutely ridiculous thing to do, way to make it all about you OP. Christ, it’s like co-opting someone else’s misery.

But crack on, you strike if it makes you feel better.

Forsakenalmosthuman · 09/11/2023 11:43

Don't know about that. My DC's secondary school were on skeleton staff during last Ramadan. Term time holidays are fine for teachers it seems. So why not strike for Gaza.

cherrytomato1 · 23/11/2023 20:44

There is so much violence and war in the world and I think we all have a duty to speak up about it.

Just because it does not affect us, when governments get away with murder (literally). Who is going to stop them?

War isn't the answer.
