Nah, it’s because this conflict involves Jews. Have you also propose a strike for the 400,000+ (including children) who have died in Yemen in the ongoing conflict there? Didn’t think so…

Yeah, no one’s buying that one anymore.

ProvincialLady1 · 06/11/2023 20:05

I'm sure wherever you work could spare you for the day fluffernutter. Go for it!

@SharonEllis whataboutery may be a good distraction technique from Israel's war crimes but it's tired and old now. come on.

Its not what aboutery. Why is is that the terrible conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Darfur, the genocide of the Rohingya and Uighyurs excite so little concern? Why do you think dissident Iranians stand so strongly with Israel? Its only a distraction technique if you are able to think about one thing at a time. Given the passion for human rights that seems unlikely. So, why is it?

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 20:12

@SharonEllis Where are your threads on them? This is a thread about Gaza. Maybe you can go post about them separately if you're so upset about them rather than moaning on here and trying to distract.

righto, see you at the Yemen march next week then. I’ll be at the Myanmar protest straight after.

Great, make sure you hold up a giant sign that says ‘whataboutery’ so I can recognize its you 👍

There might be quite a few of those going by some previous responses!

BitofaStramash · 06/11/2023 20:21

Completely illegal and won't achieve anything.

You'd make more of a contribution donating to and aid charity.

bearofepic · 06/11/2023 20:21

@Desertrose2023 😂good one

ChickHenLittle · 06/11/2023 20:21

I would do it OP, I know my colleagues definitely would too, but it would need to be very widespread to make a difference.

I propose a digital strike as well, strike a blow by taking the day off Mumsnet. That’ll really show them.

Lol. Same old posters taking over the thread.
Can’t find any trace of it being a real thing. If it is probs organised by the SWP 😂

EasternStandard · 06/11/2023 20:32

No thanks op

Good luck with the day off

bookworm14 · 06/11/2023 20:35

It’s not whataboutery to ask why people want to encourage a general strike against this action by a foreign government but no other. What is it about this one that makes it different?

@sharon better than saying ‘we want you to win’ and giving them weapons. No where has anyone said here to boycott Isreal.

You are on point tonight with clutching your last straw.

on a serious note, I don’t understand why everyone is arguing pettily about this. Surely we all want the same thing, which is primarily and most importantly for innocent people (yes including the hostages) to be ok and not have to live through this nightmare.

roarrfeckingroar · 06/11/2023 20:56

Tigerteal · 06/11/2023 21:00

@bellac11 i would love to give you an extended history lesson.. actually I don’t

Google it, many credible mJewish scholars have written books on the matter too - about the illegal Israeli occupation. I tend to read both sides as it’s good when forming your own objective opinion

it’s quiet simple and if you come to a completely different conclusion than I did, that is ok. Due your due diligence

bellac11 · 06/11/2023 21:05

Im well aware of the history of the creation of modern Israel which is why I (and others) have questioned your statement that 'England created the war'

And the fact that you havent been able to expand on it shows that you were in fact, as I knew, talking bollox.

It’s so obvious what you’re getting at but let me put you out of your misery.

It’s definitely because of an A word but that word is ATROCITIES.

Israel’s atrocities are all over social media and people can see it for themselves in real time. People have seen the kids with their limbs blown off and their skin burned off. The mums and dads wailing. People using their bare hands to dig family out of rubble. refugee camps being bombed. The ambulances, the journalists, the churches, the mosques, the UN buildings. People have also heard the rhetoric from the government. We’ve seen the army TikTok videos.

all this within the span of 4 weeks. 10,000 killed. all happening with total impunity, including from our government, and no end in sight. That’s what makes this different. There’s a sense of urgency. No one is minimizing other conflicts but this one is happening in plain sight in real time and going totally unchecked.

biscuitnut · 06/11/2023 16:31

Sorry am I being thick or something but what the hell will that achieve? Do you think we live in the old colonial days where Britain gets to tell the rest of the world what to do? You really think Israel will stop bombing because some middle class teacher in London stays at home. Oooh that will make them think won’t it!! They won’t give a shit you silly buggers 😂 Nobody is striking for Gaza. We live in England, it’s not our war.

👍

Wintersgirl · 07/11/2023 00:01

We live in England, it’s not our war.

Go and read the history, we had a GREAT deal to do with this...
