M&S Christmas ad

M&S now deleted Christmas ad has been heavily criticised for burning hats in the colour of the Palestine flag and for the reflection of a blue and white flame burning in the eye of a smirking Sophie Ellis-Baxter.

Lots of people are boycotting M&S for the ‘dark and twisted’ post supposedly celebrating the genocide of Palestine even though M&S say it was filmed before the 7th October attack from Hamas, pointing out the founder of M&S as being a Zionist.

It does seem to be very much a coincidence?

The traffic lights are probably hat way foretold we will attack Bolivia once. Down with the lights. They should all be grey

Maybe it's cultural appropriation. Who had it first? Rastafarianism or traffic lights...or culture club?

Are you suggesting that red,green and gold are offensive colours. How very dare you.

Seriously, don't you know what's going on in the world. Do your own research on Tic Toc, U Tubeeee, X or Insta and get yourself informed. Off you trot and no further use of Green and Red with any hint of flashing Amber. Fires with similar colours are now frowned upon.

Firework night soon 🤔 only use orange ones I think that they are preferable and shouldn't upset anyone (unless informed tic toc- ers know of the latest research of course)

I was reading news articles in Ireland yesterday criticising the ad because they were burning the Irish tricolour so it looks like M&S are unintentionally offending a lot of people!

And Italy and Wales. I saw this on Twitter - it is a joke btw.

I've consulted my favourite influencer and am reliably informed that's is a nail range for late Autumn moving on to early Christmas 🎄 available in Gel in matte or sparkly for those more outrageous amongst us. 💚❤💛🥳

an add with these images in a time of war with both flags

You DO realise there aren't actually any flags in it?

Perhaps person that suggested both flags should visit Specsavers?

@Totallymessed

Again, please calm down. No one is saying it’s a conspiracy on this thread.

I’m simply reporting that mandy people are offended and feel that M&S might have reflected better on their choice of ad in view of what’s happening in the world. That is all.

It is a sensitive issue and there are many ‘idiots’ as you call them, that are deeply affected by the plight of the Palestinians.

I'm going to the shops later. Is it safe to wear my blue jumper or will people think I support Israel?

Depends where you are. If you don't add white you might just get bit spat on. May be because Israel or people will think you are supporting Everton. Who should change logo. Tsk

I think they get the point now, probably best to stop making fun of OP and others who feel similar to them. It won't help anyone. Either we have convinced them it's utter nonsense or we haven't - ridiculing isn't going to help anyone see sense.

@AgingDisgracefullyHere

Anyone in marketing knows how rigorously screened campaigns like this are with many meetings discussing each and every second and shot.

Of course they knew and aired it anyway because they can use the excuse that it was created before Oct 7th.

No company in their right mind would dare to post that with what’s happening now, unless…

I'm in marketing. Can absolutely guarantee that nobody in my company would have made this association, and it would have gone out.

queenofarles · 03/11/2023 14:47

not all Marketing do their work right or test their product in a wider demographic , No one claims to be more inclusive than Dove and yet they’ve came up with an AD where a black woman removes her dark top to reveal a white woman in a lighter top, please tell me how this passed every stage from brainstorming to filming without anyone raising any concerns?
