I didn't think (and don't think she thinks!) the clomid caused the m/c, but if it doesn't help women who ovulate, it does seem a huge coincidence that the only time she's conceived in four years of trying was on Clomid, surely?

bunny2 · 14/08/2003 22:52

Aloha, on what grounds does her gp refuse clomid?

ma1 · 14/08/2003 23:33

Aloha -you are quite right I think. Clomid acts by causing you to ovulate (hopefully) and is used in women whose lack of ovulation or irregular ovulation may be contributing to their problems. It is also used in women where there is no obvious cause for their infertility even if they are ovulating regularly because for some reason which is in fact unknown it does seem to help as it did for your friend. Her GP might not want to give her the clomid because it can cause serious side effects plus they may be unsure about monitoring it and changing the dose as may be necessary and maybe feels she would benefit from hospital expert. (have a good friend who went through all this with success)

Twiglett- you said earlier that you were ovulating regularly so the clomid prob doesn't need monitored . My friend wasn't ovulating -well about once a year so they checked hormone levels to make sure it was doing the trick. It didn't initially but on a higher dose blood tests showed she was ov. My friends clinic where she saw the consultant had a nurse attached to it. My friend phoned her all the time with questions and worries(and I mean all the time) and that was part of the nurse's job. Its all pretty complicated and it is a difficult enough time without feeling that you are short of information so maybe there is somebody at the clinic you attend who you could ring .

Hello Twiglett, just for your info 50mg is not the lowest poss dose of Clomid. I got pg on 25mg. When they scanned me I was producing too many big eggs (I know that's not the right word but it feels like ages since I went through the process - can't remember correct term) on 50mg so they reduced the dose. Just something to bear in mind if the Clomid makes you feel weird,All the best

Bunny2, because she is ovulating, and I think that's all. What can go wrong with Clomid? Sorry to bother you all but I feel I can't ask her lots of questions as it is such a raw subject for her.

bunny2 · 16/08/2003 20:54

Aloha, as far as I can understands, Clomid is prescribed for women who do ovulate but do so irregularly. Does your friend fit into this category?

It's 30 days since I started my last Clomid cycle. Still no AF but 2 neg pg tests. How long should a cycle be on Clomid? I am still unsure.

Twiglett, Bunny2, thanks for the feedback. I will now be able to talk to my friend without 'interrogating' her!

Hi twiglett, i am now on day 11 of cycle, first time on clomid. not sure its working for me either, although i know its still early days. dont worry. it may be that you are not stimulated enough and will need to have a higher dose. i really think we should be given scans whilst on this do you? my cons said not to worry about them for a couple of months, but all the books i've read says its really important so that we;re not over or understimulated necessarily. and considering we only get about 6 tries we ought to be getting it right from the start. oh, i am just so fed up. Sorry - supposed to be helping you, but want you to know that i know how you feel.
Have read Bunny's news though so thats great isn't it? very postive. She ov on day 12. But we are all different. when did you start testing?
