OK I have just worked out that if my next cycle is the same length as this one was then I will actually be due 1st October if I get pg so rather than sitting at the back of the September bus I thought I might skip straight ahead to the next one lol.

Plenty of chocolate and biscuits ready for the journey

Hi all! Hope it's ok to join in?

We've been TTC for over a year, I was on the buses last year but we decided to "take a break" in the run-up to Christmas to avoid stressing out too much.

Back in the saddle again! I've lost track a bit so I'm saying Cycle 20 (it's close enough). Easy to track this month, AF arrived right at the New Year!

Hi,

I think AF got me this morning but I'm so confused.

It's not due for over a week, and I haven't had a cycle this short since I was about 14. I had a smear test last night - can that "trigger" AF? It seems too heavy (tmi) for "spotting".

How can I have a cycle length of 24 days after years of 30+ cycles???

Why this month of all months....

Oh no, nymphadora. Totally understand how heartbreaking this must be for you both. Also understand that OFSTED will totally disrupt your life for the next week as am a teacher myself. Probably unlikely that your DH will have any inclination to produce a sample as he'll be so stressed so it might be worth hanging on till next week now. Sorry, I know that's not what you want to hear.

FWIW if there is an issue with his sperm then there are so many things that can be done to help; you might find that there's a really easy solution or any medical intervention is far less intrusive than you originally thought.

I'm no medical expert but I have got experience of Reproductive Medicine so if there's anything else I can help with please let me know.

Hope you have a more restful week, lots of love xxx

nymphadora · 15/01/2010 12:46

Problem is that then next weekend is the SWI weekedn so dont want him doing a smaple then as I need it in case I am working, so it puts his test back another 2+ weeks.

What can be done? we have no idea about men, I know about clomid etc for me. And what about if neither of us work properly.

nymphadora · 15/01/2010 13:22

Just burst into tears in the post office. Trying to get a new passport and the booklet said no pics for a change of name and the woman insisted they did and tried to sned me to a shop to get them done. I have bright red eyes am completely a mess and dont want to look at my passport for the next 10 yearsand being reminded of feeling like this.

And the blokle in the queue next to me I know professionally.

randomimposter · 15/01/2010 14:07

oh nymph sorry you're having such a horrid day

nymphadora · 15/01/2010 14:13

Thanks.

Just feeling v sorry for myself. phoned dh About a hour ago and he sent me a text saying on the phone but hasn't called back. I am PO now too, I know he is busy but a text wouldn't take long

jennimoo · 15/01/2010 15:58

Nymohadora - sorry you're feeling upset, ofsted have come at the worst time
My DH is rubbish at remembering to call me back at the times when he isn't even busy, so I understand where you're coming from on that one.
Thinking of you and hope you feel better soon.
Jenni

decafgirl · 15/01/2010 16:01

If it's confirmed as low sperm count then they might offer you icsi (where a single sperm is injected into the egg) or there's the option of a little 'help along' where the sperm are placed deeper inside you to give them a better chance of finding their way (this is the less intrusive option obv).

It might not even come to that though - they'll look into his diet and lifestyle first; some of the most common causes of a low sperm count can include stress, nutritional deficiencies, infections, obesity, the use of prescription or illicit drugs, and smoking.

Just found this... There are a variety of nutritional supplements, as well as vitamins and minerals that are thought to help with a low sperm count. Maintaining a high protein, low-fat diet that is rich in vegetables and whole grains may help, as well. The timing of intercourse may impact a low sperm count, as well. Ejaculating less often, for example, is thought to help with low sperm count. It is thought that keeping at least 3 days between ejaculations is probably the range that you should go for.

Hope you're ok (ish) xxxxxxxxx

nymphadora · 15/01/2010 16:02

Ta. He actually phoned and said he would pick kids up from school then come home so I didng have to go out. By the time they arrived I was flat out on the floor.
I do need to toughen up over ttc if it's going to be rough. It's better when I'm at work & distracted butbbeing in the house on my own isn't good

addictedtomn · 15/01/2010 16:35

nmphadora, dont worry about being a mess, today, at the weekend, next week even. but keep in mind you now know why you havent conceved - i'm not saying blame your dh - but there are things that can be done to improve a low sperm count, like decaf says diet, exercise, stress.

when i start feeling down i turn to dr. google! i serch for things that i can do to help the situation, i formulate a plan that i feel will help and i focus on that for a while.

you say you have a week untill swi and 2 weeks untill you are able to re do the tests? get googling, you wont be able to do anything about the stress with ofsted coming, but you never know a week might do it! this month could be it.

addictedtomn · 15/01/2010 16:36

sorry that was a bit forcefull, i was just trying to help you feel better i didnt mean to be so bossy

just ignore me!

nymphadora · 15/01/2010 16:55

LOL its fine , I think I need that!

ATM I havent told anyone we are ttc and the only place I have to share things is here. I do have one friend that I could talk to but we arent going to mangage to get together sans kids for a while so am dependant on you lot!

digitalgirl · 15/01/2010 16:58

nymph Hope you and dh ok. Could just have been a duff wank and if he re does the test might find that actually all is ok.

no swi last night either as ds woke up at the wrong moment and sort of...killed it. Felt a bit desperate for a while thinking we've missed the boat. But also think if it's going to happen then snagging on the two mornings of ewcm should be sufficient. And anyway, might not even have ovulated. Have felt a bit odd since af left and now have tingly boobs which is obviously not a pg symptom but some sort of hormonal symptom. In fact got a bit stressy last night about life in general so not sure what's going on beneath the surface. Hopefully conception.

nymphadora · 15/01/2010 17:05

at duff wank, my hope too!
and at 'Hopefully conception' how long have you got until POAS?

digitalgirl · 15/01/2010 17:41

Ooh maybe not. More ewcm just now. Might have to grab dh before he leaves tonight. Then won't see him again till Sunday night.

Wasn't planning on poas till at least the Sunday two weeks from now. Although should anymore of the icky stuff turn up between now and then I'll give it two & half weeks from new ick.

hang in there nymph you'll get your bfp and look back at all this, in between puking your guts out of ms, wondering what all the fuss was about.

nymphadora · 15/01/2010 17:57

Haven't got any ov sticks, gave up on them, although if I wasnt ovulating they actually were right

Throws box of pg tests instead!

lucybrad · 15/01/2010 17:57

nymph if it helps I think most men would agree that providing a sperm sample is something they can accommodate quickly and easily as they have had so much practice so hopefully he can fit it in before SWI time.

We are currently trying to work on the three days between rule but its difficult working out when i may ov...

maybe this month...I hope! Would be a nice 30th b'day present to have the baby I've wanted for sooo long!

BUnderTheBonnet · 15/01/2010 19:22

Might not have been AF earlier. It seems to have stopped. Maybe.

According to the nurse, it could have been a "nicked blood vessel" up near my cervix. Or possibly a pregnancy that failed to implant .

Guess I'll have to wait and see what happens. Nothing new there then.

QueenFee · 15/01/2010 21:48

fingers crossed for you nymph at naughty OFSTEAD arriving just at the wrong time (well TBH there never is a good time but...)

I am now counting CD1 as 25th Dec as I need to know on the list how many days I have left before my first test so am updating the list to take off some of my ?'s!

Hello all

Just parking myself at the back of the bus-have brought wine and chocolates!

nymph sorry to hear you're finding things hard at the moment. Like the others said sperm problems are often improved by changes in lifestyle and diet, although I think it can take up to 3 months to really work. I hope you and your DH get some answers soon. In the meantime, feel free to help yourself to some of my virtual wine....I decided I'd bring a vat rather than a bottle so there's plenty to go round.
