Heya, I am a new member to mumsnet, but just thought I'd come on here to speak to others, swap tips, and for some general moral support!! I have had two missed miscarriages, and will be trying again in july, once everything is ok. I would love to hear from others, and have some other people to talk to this time around!! xx

You're welcome to join us in the gin palace if you are a crusty old gimmer like us (i.e. over 30), otherwise there are quite a few threads dealing with ttc after miscarriage where you will find a warm/chilled welcome and all the advice and moral support you need.

(you won't find that in the gin palace cos we all too pissed most of the time and can't string sentences together lol)

rachxx · 28/06/2009 20:22

lol, aww I would join you there, but Im not over 30 I didnt wana go and invade anyones threads either...so which ones are good?

TheNatty · 28/06/2009 20:35

easier i conceived straight away, i dont do the "recommended wait" which is like 3 months isnt it?
so i didnt have a period between MC and this pregnancy.

tell you what tho the first 12 weeks are bloody hard, you will need support there are lots of support threads on here, the knicker checkers are brilliant when u concieve again x

rachxx · 28/06/2009 20:37

lol, I didnt wait either, i concieved within a month the first time, and 4 months the second time, and I thought that maybe I was gettig worse, lol x

no prob just the way it goes, took me a year to concieve my son, who was my first, but fell pregnant when he was 4 months old with my DD! we only had sex once i think as well.

this time took a few months the first time, MC, got pregnant right away, MC, got pregnant right away and things are fine (touch wood)

the only downside to it is that its been dragging on and on, and i feel like ive been pregnant for over a year now and just cant wait to hold my baby!

shyla01 · 28/06/2009 21:55

Hi rach. I am currently ttc after 3mc

2nd month of trying after mmc beginning of march (d&c in april)
Taken a while for my body to get back to normal after this mc so not holding out much hope for the next few months, but I am determined to take it easy and just relax as much as possible.

Do you have any dc?

rainbowdays · 28/06/2009 22:10

I will be soon ttc after the 3rd mc in the last 7 months. I am getting fed up waiting for my body to finish this latest one. All my m/c's have been early (less than 6 weeks) and occuring naturally, but this one started a month ago and I am still getting positive pregnancy tests, it is frustrating, my hcg levels are creeping down very slowly.

I am not a wait-er. I resume ttc activities as soon as I have stopped bleeding.

It is hard after one miscarriage to relax with another pregnancy, but let us hope none of us have to go through any more miscarriages.

shyla01 · 28/06/2009 22:31

Know what u mean about long miscarriage rainbow
With my last mc I had scan at 8 weeks on 3rd march no hb
Decided to have medical mangement on 13th march ( which was due date of 1st mc )
That didn't work and still had retained product so ended up having d&c on 16th april.
Longest 6 weeks of my life. I decided to wait for first af before ttc again.
Still don't feel 100% back to normal.

Fingers crossed that none of us will have to go through this again !

littleboyblue · 28/06/2009 22:35

rachxx I had a mmc then a natural mc, then went full term and had a lovely baby boy, another mc and then another baby boy.
It is, I think, one of the hardest things to go through.
Hope all works out for you. x

babyboom1979 · 29/06/2009 08:14

Hi Rachxx.....I have had two miscarriages, one at 7 weeks and a second at 5. I decided to go private to do some tests (I had a very strong feeling this was more than just bad luck) and it turns out I tested positive for 2 blood clotting disorders -- one of which also prevents me from absorbing folic acid properly. So it's on to baby aspirin for me and high-dose prescription folic acid. So sorry to hear of your losses.....it's not easy but we will all get there!

rachxx · 29/06/2009 09:41

Where did you get your tests done? I am thinking of getting some done, i have already researched what tests I need, bt just dont know how much, or where to go. No i don't have any children as of yet. I hated it when my first due date went passed, but i was pregnant again for the second time, so i had that to keep me going. Its so frustrating-i would have been due in december this time round, and if i concieve again this month, it wont be due to april, does anyone feel like its one thing trying to get pregnant, then staying pregnant is harder than they thought?

OP posts:
babyboom1979 · 29/06/2009 23:45

Yes...staying pregnant is certainly much harder (and scarier) than I thought.

I went to see Dr. Michael Dooley who is a consultant gynaecologist at both the Lister Hospital and 132 Harley Street. If you google his name, his website and contact info pop up. He is absolutely fantastic at what he does and really listens to everything one has to say. A former colleague recommended him and I have to admit I was initially sceptical as he has many high-flying clients and I was worried I would barely get his attention. I could not have been more wrong......I have never been with a more attentive and compassionate doctor. After each miscarriage he sent a letter saying how sorry he was along with a detailed list of what my next steps should be.

A consulatation costs about $120 and the tests were about $400 (for both my husband and me). Of course this cost would vary depending on what you decide to have done. It was very expensive but well worth my peace of mind. I luckily am partially covered through my foreign insurance but even were I not I think I would have paid out of pocket.

I have to admit I hestitated initially to do the investigations because two miscarriages in a row is apparently quite common and most people who do miscarriage testing come back with normal results. I just had a feeling and my husband was adamant that we both get tested.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

babyboom1979 · 29/06/2009 23:48

Sorry for all the mispelled words and typos....oh and I meant to use the pound sign (which my new computer doesn't have!) instead of the $. It's late!!

rachxx · 30/06/2009 09:51

Lol, I thought they were meant to be £ when you said harley street. Thanks for info. Which tests did you actualy have for that price? I feel like i defintley want them, but unfortunatly i will be paying out my own pocket, bt will be worth it, as i won't be relying on the nhs any time soon! Thanks x

I am worried though, that no-one will take me seriously. They feel that because im young, i've got plenty of time, which i think is quite unfair!

OP posts:
babyboom1979 · 30/06/2009 11:49

I felt exactly like you about not being taken seriously -- i fell pregnant both times at 29. I have also never smoked, rarely drink, never get sick, eat well, exercise, am a good bmi, have regular periods, very good hormone profile (fsh etc.)......I just couldn't understand what could be causing these miscarriages.

Anyway, I felt that Dooley was that much more curious to investigate what could be causing them BECAUSE I am still young and healthy and recurrent miscarriages tend to happen more frequently after age 35. Mind you, he did say that it really could just be down to bad luck but I'm happy that he saw that I wasn't going to be satisfied with that answer and booked me in for further investigations.

From what I can remember he tested for lupus anticoagulant, several clotting factors, the MTHFR gene and chromosomal abnormalities in both my husband and me.

In the end I tested positive for the MTHFR gene and Protein S deficiency (clotting factor). For the former I have to take very high-dose folic acid supplements and for the latter I have to take daily aspirin and then heparin injections when I fall pregnant.

All scary stuff but I am so happy I now know.
I really wouldn't give a second thought to your age. If you do decide to see Dooley, he will be nothing but understanding. You have had two miscarriages and deserve to be asking yourself questions! If you are worried than definitely go seek reassurance. It can do wonders.....

rachxx · 30/06/2009 12:19

Thanks for good advice! Wish i had found mumsnet earlier! I know what you mean with the health-i am NEVER ill, and never have anything wrong, but maybe i have had something wrong with me all these years and never knew! x

OP posts:
rachxx · 30/06/2009 12:21

Oh, and how many times did you have to go to him?

OP posts:
babyboom1979 · 30/06/2009 12:46

Any time! We are all in the same boat rooting for eachother......

He will probably want to see you twice. Once for a general checkup/medical history inquiry and then for a follow-up. You may be able to skip the 2nd appointment if you end up with a clean bill of health.

It usually takes about 3 weeks as a first-time patient to get an appnt but once you are on his list I have gotten in within a week.

I suddenly seem to remember that the first appointment may be slightly more expensive (I think 150) as he spends a while getting to know you and then it's 120.

rachxx · 30/06/2009 13:49

Ok thanks-so does he do the tests at the first/second appointment? Soz for all the questions, and for going on about myself! Are you ttc atm? X

OP posts:
babyboom1979 · 30/06/2009 14:07

I would imagine he would see you once to do an evaluation and send you for tests, and a second time to discuss results after they come in.

He is my regular gyne so I see him whenever I need to but I really don't think you will need more than two meetings with him. Also, do not hesitate to tell him your worries (he is a good listener) and that you would really like to get tested. He will sit and explain everything about the procedure and you can decide from there what you would like to do.

And don't worry about questions! I'm sure I will have some of my own very soon.

My husband and I will be trying this month....Currently waiting for period and then fingers crossed! What about you?

rachxx · 30/06/2009 15:06

I have stupied ERPC tomorrow then not sure, I really want to start ttc again!! But wanted to get tested 1st...

I hope you have some good news soon, you really deserve to.

rainbowdays · 30/06/2009 22:14

I have been with my dh to get the blood tests today, but just realised that the wait for the results is three months. So we will not be waiting for the results before ttc again, but risk yet another m/c. That is we will be ttc again, if my body ever gets back into gear, I was hopeful that my body might be getting back to normal when I started spotting at the weekend, but still just spotting, no af here yet.
