I am 31, i am a smoker, non vegetarian, weigh nearly 8stone
dh is 32, non smoker, non vegetarian, his sperms are not extremly high in numbers but sufficient enough

iui explained

hi girls, yeah I'm fine, sank in a bit later on but just as you said bubbly am just thinking about getting on with trying it again....does worry me that 3rd time didn't work because have read that decreases chances even further.

I don't beleive its implantation bleed. I usually spot couple of days before day 1 and following same pattern this time too.

I think when have been trying so long its hard to start getting all excited because this month isn't really that different than previous months...just the chances of it happening were increased a bit. Wish I could do it again straight away but they want me to do a follow up first so will have to do that.

my ds ( who doesn't know anything about our ttc) said to me the other day...when am I going to have a little brother! I felt terrible because more than anything I want him to have a sibling..what a heartbreaker.

lets hope you have some good news madigan, would be nice if one of us did.

bubbly1973 · 23/02/2006 23:01

dizzy, been thinking of you all day and wondering how you are, it is more heartbreaking when you hear ds say he wants a little baby brother/sister and that makes us even more sad.

ive not heard third go decreases chances, i was always under the impression that they recommend 3 go's as the chances of conceiving on 1st are low but by the 3rd there higher...im not sure if its that straight forward as when trying for ds i conceived 1st time although it was a m/c, and on this go i conceived 3rd time, soooo either theory goes out the window there!

anyway im babbling, far too late in the night for me!...just wanted to pop in to leave a message for you to say keep in touch and am still hoping that it is only spotting..(sorry i seem to be wishful thinking for you )

madigan, how are you? hope your still keeping it together and the days arent going too slow

OP posts:
Madigan · 24/02/2006 08:20

Dizzy
I have been thinking about you, and really hope that you are ok. This whole process can be so overwhelming. But it sounds like you are staying positive, which is great. We are here any time you want to let off steam!
Bubbly - I am fine, coping with the 2ww but it is hard. Just wish I knew whether it worked or not. Sometimes I convince myself that it has worked, but then I remember the statistics and realise that chances are low. It would just be so fantastic if it has worked 1st time, but will have to wait another 7 days to see. No symptoms or anything.

bubbly1973 · 25/02/2006 11:47

madigan, how you feel? not long now, week number 2!!!

dizzy, hope you are okay hun, did af come full flow or is it still spotting?..

take care both of you and have a nice weekend

OP posts:
Madigan · 25/02/2006 16:12

Bubbly - feel fine, thanks. No symptoms though. Can't wait till the wait is over, one way or the other. am wondering, if it does not work, to go straight onto another IUI cycle, or to have a month's break. what do you think? hope you having a great weekend. X

bubbly1973 · 27/02/2006 07:38

madigan, how are you? im not sure what i would do, probably i would have a break but thats only because in hindsight it didnt do me any harm and did result in 2 pg's.

without hindsight i would have gone straight onto another if this was my very first treatment and i had no pregnancys but as it happens our clinic didnt let us do that, they liked us to have a months break.

have your clinic said that you can go straight onto another go? if they have and you feel its the best thing to do then go for it, but if you feel you need to mentally get it together again then give yourself a months break.

dizzy, how are things going, when is your next follow up appointment? hope your coping okay but if you need to vent, we are here

OP posts:
Madigan · 27/02/2006 09:06

Hi Bubbly
Clinic didn't actually say whether I should go straight into next one, but I think I am going to have a month's rest - no clomid, no hormones etc. And then go for IUI the following month again.
I really really want to test today though - 10 dpo. Could I really still get a false positive - def don't want that!

bubbly1973 · 27/02/2006 11:45

personally i wouldnt test if it was me purely because if it is a positive you wont be 100% happy or convinced and scared to get carried away thinking you are just incase the hcg levels are still in your system...so why spoil the moment when you do test on the testing day and be over the moon knowing your definitely pg....does that make sense?

also if its a negative, you will be going around for a few days feeling down and wondering if you tested too early, so you cant win really!
not long now hun Smile

OP posts:
Madigan · 27/02/2006 12:06

ok - will try and hold out, no guarantees though - even though what you say makes perfect sense! feeling a bit down and fed up today. wondering whether it has worked or not. did I read somewhere that it is more likely to work 2nd or 3rd time than it is 1st time?

bubbly1973 · 27/02/2006 13:59

madigan, they do say it is likely not to work on the 1st go, however when i was ttc with ds my first go worked (although miscarried) had a months break did 2nd go and that worked too which resulted in ds.

in my clinic they said if by the 3rd go it hasnt worked then they dont recommend you having more goes as the chances go down, but ive heard of women conceiving on there 4th/5th and even 7th go

i think at the end of the day, if you truly feel you want to have more goes then you have to follow your heart and go for it if both of you agree, if you think enoughs enough then focus your energy onto other things in life.

anyway that went way off the original question didnt it!! Blush

sorry your feeling down, it can really get a bit much some days and as hard as you try to keep your mind off things you cant...do you feel any different? even if you do, you may be scared to admit it incase its a false alarm and you may be scared to put your hopes up...heres hoping you can hold off till testing day but if you cant then dont forget to let me know, im dying to see if its worked, i so hope it has, i truly do
xx

OP posts:
bubbly1973 · 27/02/2006 14:04

madigan i hope you dont mind me asking but whats the reason you are going down the iui route?

i wasnt ovulated so thats why i went down it, but if you dont want to answer that fine, Smile

OP posts:
Madigan · 27/02/2006 18:33

Hi Bubbly
The reason we are doing IUI is because of DH's low sperm count, and because we've been ttc for over 2 years. I had endo, but that was zapped by laser - and I ovulate normally.

That said, DH's sperm count has improved over past few months (20mil on IUI day).

I don't feel any different. V tired and moody today (but can't put that down to being pg!!).

Have slightly sore boobs, but usually get that at this time of cycle (hope that's not a bad sign...)

Do you have any idea why IUI is less likely to work on 1st go?

I don't know why but I have a gut feeling that it might have worked, but then I don't want to give myself false hope ... and keep telling myself not to expect too much on the 1st go. I have not tested today, so....day 11dpo tomorrow.

bubbly1973 · 27/02/2006 18:45

madigan i have my fingers crossed for you and i pray it has worked 1st time.

i assume they go by stats and they probably show a low percentage of it working on 1st go, and a higher rate on 2nd or 3rd go. but im only assuming that. to be honest i dont personally think theres a hard and fast rule as to how iui will work 1st time around, it all depends on the individual and if your lucky enough to get pg on 1st attempt.

hang in there, not long hun Smile

Just popping in to wish Madigan lots of positive vibes. Keeping everything crossed that this is your turn. Hope you are keeping busy during the horrible 2 week wait xx

Madigan · 28/02/2006 10:08

Hi Bella - great to hear from you ... how are you doing?

Good morning Bubbly. Day 11. This is nightmare. It is taking tremendous willpower not to test early. I have the tests at home, waiting!!! Feel in much better form today, after a horrible day yesterday.
Hope you are well?

Bella23 · 28/02/2006 10:17

Madigan, doing well thanks.

I know the feeling of the tests literally calling your name! Any chance you can hand them over to DH and get him to put them somewhere until its test day?

Madigan · 28/02/2006 11:39

good idea Bella!!
Can't wait to find out one way or the other!
So pleased that you are doing well -

bubbly1973 · 28/02/2006 12:16

madigan im doing good thanks, glad to see you feel much better today..

..good idea of bellas, i know if i had test waiting for me it would be soooooo hard!
maybe get your dh to hide them in a good place cos if you are anything like me then you will go searching for thm and find them in 60seconds!
Grin

your doing so so well, hang on in there it really isnt that long till friday hun...when you think about it today is nearly over, you only got wednesday and thursday all day cos friday morning you can test, you havent got to wait all day friday as well

does that make it sound a shorter time? does it? does it? Grin

OP posts:
Bella23 · 28/02/2006 12:31

Madigan - the 2 week wait is torture, no 2 ways about it but I think if you break it down as Bubble says then its only really 2 days to get through.

Will be keeping a close eye.........

Madigan · 28/02/2006 13:00

thanks guys
I had sort of made up my mind to test Thurs am, as I have been having a 26 day cycle lately, and that would be day 26. Do I really have to wait until Friday??? I can't bear it.

bubbly1973 · 28/02/2006 14:08

madigan, i guess thursday morning would be okay, im sure the hcg would be gone out of your system by then, it would be quite unlikely for it to still be in your system but correct me if im wrong anyone.

so i guess yeh u can test thursday, im feel like im waiting for my own results, im quite excited for you!! good luck hun if you do decide to test thursday, ooooo isnt it exciting!!! Smile

OP posts:
Madigan · 28/02/2006 16:14

it is exciting ...
but frightened to get my hopes up too much. the main thing is persuade myself not to test tomorrow morning, which will be vvv difficult!!

dizzy36 · 28/02/2006 18:07

hi, hope you are both ok. Madigan, just been reading your messages....the 2nd wk is the worst isn't it...have been thinking of you.

I've read also that if 3rd attempt doesn't work then chances can decrease. I have a bad feeling that my 4 month break didn't help matters. Surely the third time lucky rules applies if had 3 consequetive goes (with a month rest in between). Would it apply to someone who did each iui whenever they felt like it. I wonder what is the science behind if it doesn't work after 3 it decreases theory....can anyone explain.

My follow up is next week and feels like next year! got so many questions to ask and want to get them answered and go for another iui asap. Depending on what the doc says going to keep on trying until it works!

fingers crossed madigan, not long to go before you know for sure.

bubbly1973 · 28/02/2006 19:05

dizzy i dont always think the docs know for sure anything, they had told my mil that she had a snowballs chance in hell of gettingpg (this is before the medicine they have now) they also said if she did get pg then she would lose baby as her womb was too small...what a load of rubbish, she got pg naturally 4mths after adopting a baby girl, and was overdue!!...10 years later she accidentally got pg with dh who was also overdue

im glad you havent lost the fight in you to get your dream come true,

madigan another day nearly over!!

OP posts:
Madigan · 01/03/2006 14:54

Dizzy -
good to hear from you -
please don't give up hope!

Bubbly - I have now got to the stage where I am frightened to test, because I would rather keep thinking that there might be a chance that it has worked, rather than know for sure that it hasn't.I have convinced myself today that it has not worked. And I just can't face a BFN. Maybe I'll put off testing until Friday after all .... were you like this?
