Need some inspiring geriatric conception stories

I'll be TTC in August when I'll have, reluctantly, stopped BF DS3 (who took 11 months to conceive)
I'll be 39 in July and I'm concerned about dwindling fertlity. Do you have any "My neighbour was 103 and conceived triplets on the no.22 bus" type stories to inspire me?

There are lots of geriatric conceivers here, bubble - you have come to the right place.

I was 41 when DS2 (4th child) was conceived and there are lots here who were older than that. Just wait!

Do you need to stop bfeeding to ttc? (I mean you personally, I know 'one' doesn't!) I haven't stopped (well, I have, but DS hasn't Mind you, I got AF back when DS was six months old - painful OB that she is! My DS also took 11 months to conceive - hope the next one doesn't take as long (have severe endometriosis and PCOS and was told I'd never have children )!

No, but did it once (I swear) at an only very slightly dodgy time of the month. Rioja involved as far as I can remember. Isabella born 2 weeks before 40th birthday. Good luck! Myn theory? Relax!!

HunkerMunker - A totally relevant hijack. I don't want to stop BF at all, I fed DS1 and 2 'til they were one, but as you know Elijah's twin brother Bo died during labour and though we can never "replace" Bo I am desperate for Elijah to have the sibling he should have had. DS1 and 2 are two and a half years apart then there is nearly five years between DS2 and Elijah.
The older two fight and argue but love each other dearly. I found them today with their arms around each other having a cuddle and it made me so sad that little Elijah lost his best buddy.
I am desperate to conceive again and don't want to leave it too long in case I can't. From the "In the news" area you will know that I will be seeking IVF treatment if I can't conceive naturally. I can't bear the thought of not having another baby

Bf can stop return to fertility in some mums - bubble99 if you think this is your case - then don't feel bad about cutting down on bf. You'll be thinking everytime you bf about effect on fertility. You could bf for the first 6 months & then reduce drastically - give you time to recover from the preg/birth & get a full health check-up. If af doesn't come back are there any blood tests to measure prolactin in the blood to see if it's too high & reducing chance of ovulation? Perhaps you'll be able to bf a few times a day with every chance of conceiving - all the best xxx

I conceived DS2 while I was still breastfeeding-it happened soon after I introduced solids although DS1 was still b'feeding quite a lot(he was 6 months old).

I had been off the pill for 3 months when I conceived. (In Saigon, Vietnam on holiday I blame Mekong wiskey ). We decided against calling DD Ho Chi Minh. I was 38 when DD was born.

Contemplating no 2 now at 41.

I was 37 (a little younger I know) when I had ds. Concieved quite naturaly

I conceived at 36 and had dd when I was 37. I am 38 on Saturday (Happy Birthday to me) and I planning to try for number 2 shortlyish!

I was worried about declining fertility etc but I got pregnant in the first month and had a trouble free pregnancy - birth was interesting - but then aren't they all and I don't suppose this has a lot to do with age?

My midwife scoffed when I thought I was old and told me that I was a youngster for the area I live in.

Think it has a lot more to do with lifestyle and health issues than age.

I was 38 when I conceieved using IUI on the second attempt... took 18 months to do my DS at 34..

would really recommend you look at iui before IVF as it is so much less invasive, painful, traumatic etc

my doc recommended I stop smoking and drinking on my one night a week out.... ie it is better to drink a little every day rather than balast it all at one go! (and to give up smoking completley)

being the queen of infertility, can I suggest you try accupuncture during treatment as it has been proven to double success rates (worked for me!!) -- follow the foresight diet before you start treatment and work on some relaxation techniques as it is very sreessful!!

Conceived DS1 at 37, with the aid of Clomid. Conceived DS2 at 41, totally unexpectedly, no artificial assistance (in fact can't even remember 'doing the deed' - it was a pretty quiet month for us sexually! ). As DS1 took years to get going, DS2 was a total and lovely surprise. As I definitely don't want a No 3, I am terrified of condomn failure or other 'accidents'. Until 5 years ago I would have just assumed I couldn't conceive! My fertility has obviously come to me late.

I conceived No2 at 36 in the first month of trying (I say 'trying' - I thought we'd blown our chances that month as we only did it once that month/cycle but it turned out to be enough!!)

at 38, conceived in first month of trying, miscarried at 6 weeks, got AF once, and have just conceived again! and, like many posters here, our "trying" involved doing it maybe twice a month so it ain't all about going at it like bunnies (pretty unlikely to happen if you've got other littlies around and both work too, as we do). I totally recommend ovulation predictor kits, if you're in a hurry! worked for us both times. best of luck to you.
