I'll be TTC in August when I'll have, reluctantly, stopped BF DS3 (who took 11 months to conceive)
I'll be 39 in July and I'm concerned about dwindling fertlity. Do you have any "My neighbour was 103 and conceived triplets on the no.22 bus" type stories to inspire me?

I think that fertility does not decline so rapidly for women who have already had a child, than those who have not. Also your fertility can also be higher shortly after having a baby, even if that one took a while to concieve. My gran had her 5th child at 41 and her 6th at 48.I don't think either were planned, though!Best of luck.

After I lost Tom aged 39 I conceived and successfully had dd at 40, bubble. We had taken two years to conceive Tom.
Wishing you all the luck in the world on this one. Someone told me there is some physiological truth behind the old wives' tale that you can often have a natural surge of fertility around 40, but I have no hard evidence to back that up (or rather I do but she is chewing Miffy books at nursery at the mo).

handlemecarefully · 21/03/2005 11:16

Hi bubble,

Nice to see you around again.

My sister conceived aged 42 - very health gorgeous boy. She wasn't actively trying at the time - just a bit lax about birth control.

piffle · 21/03/2005 11:22

my neighbour has an 18yr dd, 13yo ds 1st marriage
2 yo ds and is now after 3 sad miscarriages pregnant at 17 weeks with scans and tests all clear
she is 43
good luck petal

Listmaker · 21/03/2005 11:23

My friend is now 28 weeks pg with her first baby conceived as soon as she started trying at the age of 44!!

Sponge · 21/03/2005 11:24

I had dd at 37 and ds at 41. Both conceived naturally, without espcially "trying" - i.e. no temperature taking, ovulation kits, planned shagging etc, just didn't do anything to prevent it. So although it took 4 years to conceive ds I'm sure we could have speeded things up if we'd chosen to.
Problem free pregnancy with dd and although I did get pre-eclampsia with ds it wasn't until 40 weeks so they just induced me and I had him naturally.

moondog · 21/03/2005 11:33

My colleague has just had a little girl at 45 (nearly 46!!) with her new (ish) dh. She has a 14 year old son as well.

We are all so thrilled for them!!

Good luck. XX

Sorry no, but I was 38 when I had ds3 and didn't feel old to be having a baby. I do think it took a bit longer to conceive him then it did the others but maybe that was just the luck of the draw (the others were conceived very quickly). I would start as soon as poosible if I were you. Do you have to wait until you have stopped b/f?

motherinferior · 21/03/2005 11:38

I conceived DD2 at 39; Aloha conceived her dd at 41; Blu conceived her ds at 42; and there are others out there.

All the luck in the world from me too.
xxxxxxxxxx

I conceived dd at the age of 40 after one attempt! It took about five months to conceive ds at the age of 37. So much for dwindling!

welshmum · 21/03/2005 12:17

Had dd at 38 and now pg with no.2 and I'm 41. Quite knackered but mostly from trailing round the shops looking for maternity clothes to make sure I look young and gorgeous

Are you having a glam 'Zeta Jones' style pregnancy then welshmum?

All the luck in the world to you, Bubble.
I did indeed conceive Ds at 42. At our 1st ante-natal appt, the mw adopted what I think you would call a 'counselling face' and said 'And how long were you ttc?' 'about 10 minutes' I said. 'No really, how many years were you trying?' 'About 10 minutes, really'....

motherinferior · 22/03/2005 15:31

A whole ten minutes?

Tinker · 22/03/2005 16:14

Conceived twice at 39 (miscarried first one at 6 weeks). No effort really, no real planning, lots of red wine involved in 2nd one. Another friend just had a baby at 39, not much trying and another friend is 38 and due same time as me - didn't want one at all!

motherinferior · 22/03/2005 16:17

Oh yes, another friend of mine got pregnant accidentally, while using contraception, at 42 as well.

tamum · 22/03/2005 16:22

I said this on the other thread but it's so good I'll say it again: my ex-boyfriend was born when his mother was 48. He had two brothers, one a year older and one two years older, so his mum had her first at 46, the next at 47 and the last at 48. Respect

Arabica · 22/03/2005 23:19

Conceived on second attempt at 39 and first attempt at 43 (my latest pregnancy was a miscarriage but consultant said that so far as he could tell it was NOT age-related and there was no reason why I shouldn't be able to have another baby if I wanted to).

SofiaAmes · 22/03/2005 23:46

My dh was told he had no sperm, yet I conceived my first at 36 and my 2nd at 38 with only a few months of trying each time.

I have a good friend who thought she was going through early menopause at 46 and instead found out she was pregnant with her first.

jabberwocky · 23/03/2005 02:00

Conceived ds at 37 1/2 on 2nd month of trying! And dh was 54 which they now say can make a difference. Let's see, I was really picky about "cleansing my system", didn't take anything except my thyroid meds of course, for several months prior, took prenatal vitamins for a few months before and made dh wear those loose boxer shorts! Oh, and obsessively watched my cycle so as to know when I ovulated.

Mirage · 23/03/2005 06:32

My friend was soley bf her 7 month old when she became pregnant with her 3rd child-it is quite common I believe.

I have gotten more fertile as I've gotten older. We ttc from when I was 30 to 33 with no success, thenI got pregnant totally out of the blue, after 3.5 years of trying, lost the baby, got pregnant again 7wks later, & had our beautiful dd.Around her 1st birthday,I binned the Pills & found I was pregnant 6wks later, that was 2 months before my 36th birthday. So the older IO get,the quicker I seem to concieve.

DH's mum had 6 children,dh when she was 39 & his youngest sister when she was 41.A dear friend of mine is pregnant at 42 too, after years of TTC.

Strongly agree with mancmum about the acupuncture-that is what kickstarted my fertility-I highly reccomend it.

Bubble99,I do hope it all works out for you. You've had the most horrendous experience & deserve a little luck & happpiness.
Thinking of you.
