Does anyone have experience of this? Hubby has just had it done and we are nervously awaiting the outcome!

Think my consultant is just a money grabber . We have discussed having the tests done at 6 months if nothing has happened - tbh I'm really just putting it off because I'd be devasted if it was bad news! I know i could be wasting 6 months of getting my hopes up for nothing - but am just too scared to find out! Silly really! My theory is that the sperm count might have improved to a more hopeful level after 6 months than it would have been at 1mth and 2mths (when they wanted us to have the £40 tests!)and I wont find the news so devasting! I could be completely wrong and there might be nothing there at all!!

Forgot to say though welshlinz - I am the same with the symptoms - have been feeling sick since ov (4dpo now!)- but seems normal - or could it be??! the 2ww is a nightmare!

OP posts:
welshlinz · 03/07/2008 15:41

terrier, do you always get these symptoms after ov or is this the first time ? Fingers and everything crossed for you !!!
You're right in the theory of the increased sperm count after 6 months as this was the time scale we were given by doc. He said there should be a much higher percentage of sperm there by 6 months if it's worked so that may be a good time to get tested ( although hopefully you won't need to )

terrier141 · 03/07/2008 17:47

Put it this way I have noticed feeling sick around this time ever since we started ttc!! Probably always have but not taken any notice! im tending to imagine every symptom in the book every cycle - so not holding out too much hope just based on that - will just wait and see!

OP posts:
terrier141 · 06/07/2008 11:32

Ok - where are you all hiding??

OP posts:
pinkmook · 06/07/2008 11:48

Hi Terrier - I have been avoiding coming on here so much as I was getting obsessed/down again. AF arrived this morning the only good thing about that is that I can now ring and book my scan thing and it also seems like I have managed to lengthen my Luteal Phase to 12 days so thats goos I suppose.

Have an absolutely terrible week at work ahead of me as some things have come to a head with colleagues. Just want to bury my head in the sand really

Any way, sorry for moaning on - how are you? On the 2WW? Fingers crossed for you

welshlinz · 06/07/2008 16:19

hi all, sorry to hear about your problems at work, pink..I remember the feeling of wanting to bury my head in the sand and dreading going in. ( hated the people I worked with in my last place !! )

Hope everyone is ok. Just wanted a bt of advice on what my DH should pack for his stay in the hospital on Friday ? Hasn't been told anything in the letter they've sent, just when to turn up basically. He was curious on whether he's expected to shave ( as he was told to do this before vas op ), and also does he need to take tight fitting underpants etc ???
Any help would be most appreciated x

terrier141 · 06/07/2008 19:06

pinkmook - sorry af turned up - gutted for you - good news about the longer leutal phase though and great that you can now book your scan - get things moving a bit. Sounds like you are having a shit time in work too - why does it all come at once?? No wonder the last place you want to be is on here.
Yes Im on the dreaded 2ww now - and up to my usual symptom spotting!!

Welshlinz - my dh wasnt told to shave - but did it anyway just cos he wanted to (not much help there really!). He was advised to wear snug (but not too tight) fitting pants for at least 2 weeks afterwards.
Getting excited for you now!!

OP posts:
pinkmook · 06/07/2008 19:12

Thanks terrier/linz - Work is uuuuuuber shit! Know I wont sleep tonight

Yeah am glad am lengthening LP gives me a bit of hope. Fingers and toes crossed for you terrier.

Linz - my Dh was told to shave, and like terrier, to bring tightish undies to hold it all snugly afterwards! It looked like a huge purple plucked chicken afterwards

Is he staying over night?

xx

welshlinz · 06/07/2008 22:33

hi, yes he's got to stay in overnight because the op isn't until 5 p.m. He said he's making the most of the price by getting his moneys worth being pampered by the staff. This hospital is sooooo posh !!! When we were in the waiting room, a nurse bustled through with a selection of sandwiches, cakes and crisps to "snack on whilst you are waiting" !

Feel really guilty tho, cos I won't be able to visit him after the op as if I bring in DD, she will tell everybody she went to visit daddy in hospital etc. Is that very mean of me ??

Looking forward to the purple plucked chicken look, pink lol.... especially encased in some ropey undies. Don't know I'll be able to resist

terrier141 · 07/07/2008 07:21

My dh was also strapped up in a ridiculous looking garment - its not pretty!! Be prepared - he will expect lots of tlc!!

OP posts:
pinkmook · 07/07/2008 15:42

The hospital sounds v posho. Like you say though - get your money's worth! I'd be sticking cakes/snacks/sandwiches in a bag and bringing as much free stuff home as poss

Booked my HYCoSy scan today...16th July eek scared!

terrier141 · 07/07/2008 16:38

pinkmook - we are all behind you and will be sending you lots of good luck vibes on the day. At least you have a date to count down to now xx

OP posts:
pinkmook · 07/07/2008 19:48

thanks terrier I really appreciate it. Even though I've never met any of you in rl you're the only people who even half way understand...thats what it feels like anyway

Lets hopw we all get what we want soon! If we do I reckon we should have a big meet up with our babies...imagine that!

terrier141 · 08/07/2008 10:03

I agree - this is the best place to share the whole experience cos we are all in the same boat. I feel like I can ask all my ridiculous questions - and share my stupidity over symptom spotting, early testing and looking at baby stuff without being judged! Cant talk to dh about that stuff cos he doesnt want me to be so obsessed, incase it doesnt work out and I end up upset! (hes not very realistic - how can you not become obsessed!!)
Anyway - in line with all this - I will admit to you all my complete stupidity for today - I have just tested (9dpo)and of course got a BFN! Will I never learn!!

Oh and pinkmook - you must be feeling a bit more positive - you have predicted that we will all have babies to meet up with - I like that picture! xx

OP posts:
welshlinz · 08/07/2008 13:21

pink, that sounds like a really nice idea. Fingers crossed we will all meet up one day x

I am not looking forward to this 2ww thing each month as it sounds like a nightmare ! As I have said before, after ovulation I have all the classic preg symptoms so I just no I'm going to convince myself every month it's happened ! Am due my AF on 11th ( according to fertility friend ) and I feel really sick and my boobs are so so SORE !! The only good thing is they increase by a cup size so actually have a bit of something there for a change , although they are too sore for DH to go anywhere them so pointless after all

welshlinz · 10/07/2008 10:47

hi all, anyone around today ???

terrier141 · 10/07/2008 12:28

Hi welshlinz - I am around but very down today. Had convince myself it was our month but now have spotting at 11dpo/cd26 - thought it was gonna be a 30 day cycle, but now looks much shorter! feeling very tearful and emotional and a bit of a wreck really! i am also back on the "i need a new dog!" whinge - just think I need something else to focus on - but dh is not having any of it!

Anyway - enough of my whinging - i bet you are all excited today - big day tomorrow!! Its all go from there!! x

OP posts:
pinkmook · 10/07/2008 13:25

Hi Linz and terrier.

Terrier, really sorry you're feeling down today, believe me I have been there! Don't get too down, could it be implantation spotting??

Remember even if its not your month it takes on average 12 months. But I know this will not make you feel too much better (been there too)right now but it will settle into your brain a little (like it has mine - of a fashion!!) and make things feel a bit less hopeless if you try and keep it in mind - that's what I am trying to tell myself. It will be 12 months for us soon!

Dont get too despondent, at least you dont have any major probs with you/your cycle so you are only really dealing with DH (and you dont know there is even an issue with DH yet)

Chin up, we can all get through this together - and remember its n ot over til AF arrives!

((((((Terrier)))))))))

pinkmook · 10/07/2008 13:27

oooh and good luck for tomorrow Linz < excited emoticon>

welshlinz · 10/07/2008 13:52

thanks for the good lucks girls xx i'm so excited but getting stressed now. just had a silly argument with DH about the fact he's not bought his hospital underpants yet lol

We're picking up our new puppy in a min aswell so I've decided we are really are nuts !! can't wait though. she's gorgeous !

terrier, I was thinking the same as pink. could it be implantation spotting ???

terrier141 · 10/07/2008 14:16

Thanks for trying to cheer me up - I know im being ridiculous and dont know what I'll be like if it does take 12 months, or longer, or not at all!! Pink - how do you stay sane?? I cant imagine!
No - dont think its implantation - think its the start of AF - had it last month too - just feel really pre AF too iyswim?
Pink - i HOPE its just dhs issues we have to worry about - have just gone through my dates since Feb and realised that although I thought I was regular - there is quite a bit of variation in length - prob nothing to worry about though.
Pink - did you know there might be issues with you prior to ttc?

welshlinz - I am soooo jealous about your pup - my sister got one yesterday too. I think it has something to do with my broody genes!

OP posts:
welshlinz · 10/07/2008 16:19

so with regards your AFs. What length are your cycles ? I'm 28 days normally which means I am due on Saturday which gives him 2 weeks recovery time before we need to get on the wagon with our first attempt !!

pinkmook · 10/07/2008 18:57

Terrier, No I had no idea there were issues with me until we started TTC. I had continued to take the pill even after DH op as I took Dianette then yasmin both which help if you have acne (which I used to get). I am now thinking I may have mildish (is that even a word :-) ) PCOS as acne is a sign of this and just never knew - DS was concieved when I was 25 so still in the highly fertile bracket and so it probably didnt have that much of an effect on me at that time - fast forward 7 years and maybe that mild PCOS is more of an issue combined with age?? I guess I will find out through the fertility investigations I am having.

The first few months after I stopped the pill I had 31 day cycles and thought everything was hunky dory, then I had a 28 day one then a 23 day one then a whopping 56 dayer (good god my head was in bits for that two mnths I can tell you!) then I have had a 28 day one (with a 13 day LP) then a 35 dayer (with a 14 LP) and I am now on CD3 of a new cycle - I started taking Vit B6 and 12 after the 23 day cycle as that only had a 6 day LP so did some research and read vit B deficiencies can cause short LP. So now I am unsure if I have managed to lengthen my LP with B vits or more negatively, I have not been ovulating and the temp changes are just temp changes so the LP is not the LP IYSWIM !!!

How do I stay sane?? LOL I dont! I always go through a really miserable down period just before af and for about a week after. Then that little survival instinct kicks in and you think - "oh well, it could be this month, you've got to be in it to win it" etc etc and that little tiny grain of hope buoys you up again! Have you not noticed how I disappear then post a plaintive little whinge every time af due! LOL

Like Professor Robert Winston says - infertility causes as much pain and anguish as cancer.

On a more positive note Linz I am dead excited for you!!

welshlinz · 10/07/2008 22:43

thanks pink, i'm excited too !! Puppy has arrived and she's tiny. Started howling when we put her in her pen but she's calmed down now she's with the other one and they've both gone to sleep thank god!

Anyway, onto the PCOS pink, I was diagnosed with that before my daughter. In fact I was due to go for a scan on my ovaries the morning I discovered I was pregnant ! If you are a sufferer, you tend to get a really sharp stitch pain around that area ( or at least I did ). It used to literally floor me at certain times of my cycle. When I got pregnant the cysts went and the doc said the hormones can actually cure mild cases so I think thats what happened with me. I have noticed though the last couple of years the pain is creeping back so I'm worried the cysts have returned. I have heard that can cause problems when trying to conceive but I have 3 friends with it and they have all caught eventually so fingers crossed x

Anyway, must go. Time for bed but mind is racing about tomorrow lol Hubby still hasn't bought his undercrackers btw
