I just ordered some opks and started using them this morning. I'm cycle day 10 but it seems quite strong. I thought there would be more of a build up to ovulation. Anyway out of curiosity, when do you think it will show the LH surge, from your experience? I used opks once years ago and fell pregnant the first cycle I used them so don't know what I'm doing!

Am I supposed to keep testing all day?

Hi @Strawberrypupcake
Im only using these for the second time so Im no expert but I think you are a day or two away from a peak but everybody is so different. I have been testing twice so morning and evening

Lila34830 · 06/12/2024 15:35

Hi op, only test morning and evening, you will definitely catch the peak but what would be good is to know you baseline lH level (try and test earlier next cycle if this cycle isn't successful ) so you know what you low is and you know when you're rising ! ☺️

Thank you. Going by that one and only cycle I start off with only 1 line! So the test line isn't detectable at all to start with.

The last time I used them, I had sex on cd 10, got a positive on cd12 and got pregnant. That was the only time we had sex in my fertile time that cycle. I'm in a similar boat where my husband is away and we were just able to have sex on cd8 so am hoping I ovulate tomorrow!

As someone else has said it's likely you are building up to it now, given you're CD 10. But it's not impossible the peak has been an gone and this is the tail end of it - less likely, but just keep an eye on it. I also agree that twice is probably plenty. Some days in the early part of my cycle I'm just testing once until it starts getting stronger.

Thank you. I suspect it's building rather than I have already peaked. I'll test again before bed. It's quite exciting!

How long is your cycle usually? My 25-29 day cycle means I hit my peak day 10/11 and I ovulate day 12/13. Obviously the longer the cycle, the later you could ovulate.

As my LH levels increase, I tend to test more frequently.

Heres mine. I only DTD once on CD 6 - I had barely finished my period and Currently almost 6 weeks pregnant!

Oh my gosh, that's incredible! You must have been so shocked!

My cycle length is a good question. I'm 42 and my cycles went a bit wobbly the past year, but I'd a lot of stress going on which has now gone, amd my cycles seem to be settling back to a 28 day pattern. But they were very erratic for a while; 14-50 days!

Shocked is an understatement as I wasn’t actually trying to get pregnant. In fact, I track ovulation to not get pregnant and I slipped up last month! Alas we are here now and I’m very happy regardless 😄

Wow that is a big difference between your cycles. Just keep testing and if you don’t already, download the pre mom app and log all of your tests in there.

Ggmores · 06/12/2024 18:26

I’ve not really had a lot of success with these, I can never seem to pinpoint the peak. My cycles were a bit erratic last year but I put that down to a previous ectopic and taking new supplements. Although I am 42 also and have been told even if I get the peak, the quality of my eggs are probably screwed!!

I was wondering if they could be used to avoid pregnancy. Maybe not!

Do you have to pay for the premom app?

It’s good if you bother to track! I came off hormonal contraception 3+ years ago and have never had a mishap. I was only expecting to ovulate CD14/15 but after I tested my LH levels spiked drastically on CD10. I knew there would be a very high possibility that I could fall pregnant and I did. I didn’t do anything to prevent it either.

Premom is free 🙂 certain features you have to pay for but to log LH tests, it’s free.

@Strawberrypupcake
The acupuncturist I was going to see (she said that there was no proof that it worked for aging eggs so didn’t want to take my money - although did refer me to a nutritionist who could be more helpful), the consultant when I was at the hospital, and the IVF consultant who we’ve seen preemptively. They didn’t say it in a bad way, I was paraphrasing a bit, they just wanted me to have all the information. Which I know of course!!

Strawberrypupcake · 06/12/2024 21:56

I just did another test and it's quite a lot fainter than the original one I posted. Why would that be?

Diluted urine? Test again tomorrow early afternoon!

Strawberrypupcake · 07/12/2024 08:19

Test with FMU was similar to yesterday. Not much point in continuing as I was testing to see if I was going to ovulate within the time range of having sex on cd8. I'll not get a chance to do so again this cycle and am actually cd 12 now, not 11, so at least I know I'm most likely out before the tww starts. I know there's still a remote chance but the odds are against me. Anyway!

You don’t use FMU for LH testing.. it’s best to test midday / afternoon. CD12 is still very early for some. Just download the app and log your tests. You need to have some patience when it comes up this.. Goodluck.

Thank you. I did download the app, thank you for the tip. Premom said my test was peak though, but I don't think that's right. I know it can be a long drawn out process but this month is just a bit of an anomaly as my only chance to have sex was on cycle day 8 and I won't get another. I just wanted to know if I was going to ovulate soon after. I have randomly ovulated early on some cycles over the past year s wanted to know if I was in with a chance this month. If I haven't had a real peak yet, and it's day 12 (4 days since dtd), I'm likely to ovulate too late for cd 8 sex to result in pregnancy. Hope that makes sense. If it was just a normal cycle where I had all month to have sex I'd be rolling with it a lot more. Hope that makes sense!
