Tampons and baby products in the same supermarket aisle is a problem

LolaMottola · 13/11/2024 22:42

Hadn't thought of this before but... baby milk and food in the same supermarket aisle as tampons and sanitary towel is potentially triggering for women going through ivf or baby loss 🙁

Mum slams supermarket for stocking period care and baby products in same aisle

Sainsbury's supermarket has been slammed by a fertility advocate for displaying its period products in the baby aisle as a "double whammy" for those in the fight to get pregnant

It’s not quite on the level of only being able to access the hospital IVF clinic through the maternity clinic but it’s along the same lines.

The logic being ‘it’s all women’s stuff’. Problem is, the formula etc has to share an aisle with something,..

StillAtTheRestaurant · 13/11/2024 22:51

What an absolutely ridiculous thing to be concerned about.

saltysandysea · 13/11/2024 22:52

Sorry, struggling to see an issue here. If they have gone to the supermarket they will no doubt be in it with families with possibly young children, babies etc (seeing as there are baby products for sale as well).

2Sensitive · 13/11/2024 22:54

When women have a new born and are out looking for maternity pads is handy, spesh if you have a screamer.
I struggled with fertility & the hardest part is sitting in the same waiting room with Ladies with healthy bumps. Although it's amazing for them, It's emotional- spesh if it was after one of my losses.

Also just walking around in the world, where babies and things related to babies exist.

KittytheHare · 13/11/2024 22:57

Well, speaking as someone who went through numerous losses, including a mid-term miscarriage, I would say there are innumerable triggers.
What about the maternity section when you’re walking through Next? Or the constant sighting of mums pushing babies in prams when you’re in town? Or basically a hundred other micro-triggers as we navigate life?
Honestly the idea that period products beside baby goods is an “issue” is ridiculous.

WinterMorn · 13/11/2024 23:00

This is a total non-issue.

LBFseBrom · 13/11/2024 23:17

Absolutely ridiculous.

TerrysNeapolitan · 13/11/2024 23:18

GET A GRIP

Marblesbackagain · 13/11/2024 23:19

They aren't in the same ailes here in Ireland. The baby items are together in one aisle. Tampons etc are with health, deodorant.

Miguelo · 13/11/2024 23:19

I think they’re making something out of nothing here..

RosieLeaf · 13/11/2024 23:20

Lots of things are triggering for lots of people. You can’t have life fixed in a way that doesn’t upset anyone, ever.

WouldIBeMad · 13/11/2024 23:39

Just another ‘outraged’ article written for the social media likes.

ScottBakula · 14/11/2024 00:01

What about things like condoms can they be in the same area ? Or is that triggering ?
While ladies that are struggling to conceive have all my sympathy as pp have said there are 1000s of triggers everywhere, adverts on bill boards / bus stops / magazines/ tvs, people with babies

StormingNorman · 14/11/2024 00:04

Massive eye roll.

Reluctantnurse · 14/11/2024 00:04

Oh man, this is just tabloid shit to stir up outrage and promote social media engagement. Don’t fall for it. This is clearly a non-issue.

InvisibleDragon · 14/11/2024 00:33

I had a horrendous experience with a missed miscarriage recently. Of all the difficulties and stress and sadness of the last few months, this never once crossed my mind as an issue.

I'm not saying that it's not an issue for some people, but the thing about trauma triggers is that they are random and very personal. Generally speaking, we can't ask the world to change for us - we need to be able to manage ourselves in the world as it is - supermarket tampon displays included.

Vettrianofan · 14/11/2024 07:08

Storm in a teacup. Absolutely sad for those going through fertility issues but there are triggers everywhere not just a supermarket.

FlingThatCarrot · 14/11/2024 07:31

Honestly you can see how snowflake culture is developing.

You can order online if you're that desperate to avoid the rest of the world and life.

Codlingmoths · 14/11/2024 07:34

Where should they go? Next to the milk because parents don’t need milk- no ok, next to the bread maybe? Hmm no parents buy bread. Next to the lollies- oh that won’t work.

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 14/11/2024 13:33

By the crikey is this how some people think? I'm going for a lie down Confused

gamerchick · 14/11/2024 14:07

I don't want to live in a world where resilience becomes a thing of the past. Where the world is sanitised and hidden from view lest someone is triggered.

Humans are meant to feel emotions and sometimes intense emotions, but protecting them from them means mental health issues.

yeah, no, condoms cant be near baby things, or period products as they are all about people having sex, and I'm not

MidnightPatrol · 14/11/2024 14:16

That she’s 47 makes this even more ridiculous.

Utmost sympathy for those struggling with infertility, this makes little sense though.

TheOnlyWayisGerard · 14/11/2024 14:51

How ridiculous. Some stores have all of their household/baby/hygiene/tampons on the same aisle as they're small and it's their 'non food' stock.

At my local hospital you share the waiting rooms whilst actively miscarrying with women carrying successful pregnancies. I was in a waiting room for hours miscarrying whilst two women were discussing their morning sickness and potential baby names. I find that unacceptable, but product placement in supermarkets is a non issue.
