I am ttc #2. I put on weight with DS (now 2). I am currently 5 "4" and 12 stone 8 pounds and a small size 16. I did a lot of sport before DS, so have a lot of muscle which I believe gives inaccurate BMI (excuses!). I do worry about another pregnancy although I dearly want another baby. Has anyone else got similar worries or experienced a pregnancy whilst overweight.

am currently between 18-20 and f506 and pg with dc3

its obviously brought up at every apt I have and I get weighed/glucose tested etc

I wish I wasn't this overweight
I had lost 2.5 stone last year but managed to put it all back on just intime for falling pg with this one

you'll be fine, just do everything sensibly to ttc and see how it goes!

in my defence my babies were 10lb4 and 11lb1 so no wonder am weighing in at this!

RGPargy · 12/04/2008 22:28

You'll be fine, dont worry. I was a size 24(ish) when i conceived DD (she's four months now) and everything was absolutely fine, including glucose etc. Oh and i NEVER got weighed once!

dizzydixies · 12/04/2008 22:32

RGPargy - how did you manage to get out of it, they insist I get on the scales every farking time even though I make noises about it!

am same with glucose too, fine everysingle time AND my bp is never raised either

roseability · 12/04/2008 22:38

thanks guys. I have a particular obsession with my weight as I had a father who bullied me about it through my teens. I know my size isn't that big, I just don't want anything to stop me enjoying pregnancy/baby if I am lucky enough to concieve again

I have warned my family in no uncertain terms that the word 'fat' will not be banded about my kids the way it was to us

you'll be fine and a 16 is not big, its average

good luck

Dizzy - I think different health authorities do things differently. I was dreading being weighed but the only person that weighed me was ME!!

If you dont want to be weighed, then just say so!! They cant force you to get on the scales! What are they gonna do?? Drag you to the scales by your hair?!

My BP was also never raised and glucose fine. I got the home birth i wanted too, although i wasn't allowed to get into my pool because of meconium in my waters. Other than that tho, everything was absolutely fine!

Roseability - size 16 isn't big. Please dont spend your pregnancy worrying about your weight. It's a time for enjoying your body and your unborn baby and not having to worry about having cake if you want to!

Good luck TTC and please - ENJOY your pg!!!

roseability · 12/04/2008 23:04

You guys are great! I don't believe anyone should feel they are 'fat' and should enjoy childbearing whatever size. I like to think being a loving mum is more important but of course so many pressures from other people.

Hi im 4'11 and a size 22, i had dd3 6 months ago with no interventions and had a healthy problem free pregnancy. Im now 11 weeks pregnant with dc4 and so far have had no problems.

dizzydixies · 12/04/2008 23:05

RGPargy - would like to see them try!!!! I'm not obsessive about my weight but I put on 4.5 stone with dd1 as had a mc before her and was frightened to move

only put on 19lbs with dd2 and she was 11lb1 of it and wanted to see how I was doing this time as was on bedrest for about 8wks this time round

GP wouldn't let me weigh myself as I have 'better' things to be worried about and midwife on friday didn't ask so neither did I

roseability I agree with RGPargy entirely - its you health that matters here and time to enjoy being pg!

RGPargy · 12/04/2008 23:17

roseability - ignore those who put doubts in your head! If you are ever in doubt, just ask on here and you'll always get the proper truth!

Dizzy - Sorry about your previous mc and i can understand how you would be cautious with the next PG. It's great that the GP said not to weigh yourself!

NorthernLurker · 12/04/2008 23:21

I am a similar height to the op and I've had three babies with no problems - I weigh considerably more than you

I think it is helpful to keep active - I was cycling at 39 weeks with dd3 - otherwise enjoy your pregnancy

minster · 13/04/2008 09:38

Our local trut treats pregnancy as normal/low risk up to a BMI of 40 - mw led cae, standard monitoring etc - over 40 they refer for consultant care & routine GTTs.

If you are overweight (or have big arms!) make sure they use an appropriate BP monitor cuff on you - too small and you'll get falsely high BP readings which leads to a whole lot of stress.

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 10:58

RGPargy - thank you, have had 2 dds since and another dc due in July!

northernLurker good for you with the cycling, I don't think my bike could take it!! luckily the girls have me running about after them and walking the dog

roll on summer

RGPargy · 13/04/2008 20:58

dizzy - congrats and good luck for July!

Hoonette · 13/04/2008 21:03

Roseability

I was much more overweight than you and had a completely healthy pregnancy and a trouble-free birth. I have also been recommended a home birth for no 2!

I kept mentioning my weight to my midwife, but she just didn't see it as a problem.

Good luck with it all and don't worry!

soph28 · 13/04/2008 21:15

I'm 5'8'' and normally about 1.5stone overweight- size 16. Am currently 39+ wks pg with no.3 and have only ever been weighed at my booking in appointment. Never had raised BP (usually quite low) or glucose and never had any swelling.

Don't know what I weigh ATM and certainly don't want to! Am in size 16/18 maternity clothes.

After this one (last one) am going to try and slim down but getting out to do any decent exercise is pretty difficult with 2 toddlers and a baby!

Broodybabywannabe · 13/04/2008 21:40

thank gods of mumsnet a thread just as i needed!!
hi all

im size 20-22 (excuse being that i dont like clothes tight cant squeeze into 18-20) and amm ttc, but AFs all out of whack?

can someone pls reassure me that this isnt to do with my weight? especially Rgpargy if you concieved naturally? sorry to be a pain, but im sure you all know the stresses of TTC!!

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 21:49

broodybabywannabe managed to get pg with dc3 in Oct after coming off pill in Aug - have very irregular periods, always have a 3wk cycle rather than 4wk and this is my 3rd natural conception

just relax and enjoy, was a size 14-16 when started this journey 5yrs ago and am now between 18-20 and in size 18matty clothes

which is a whole other issue for a whole new thread when you DO get your BFP!!!

RGPargy - thank you, am feeling decidedly heavier than 25wks but think thats more to do with bed rest for 8wks and getting used to sitting on lardy arse!! managed to get a lot done today and although tired am feeling good about it

Broodybabywannabe · 13/04/2008 21:51

BTW my BMI is 36, i know i sounds mad but i just feel so desperate!

Broodybabywannabe · 13/04/2008 21:53

sorry xposts!

BMI 36 Am currently on CD58 which is what is really worrying me x

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 21:54

sorry but i don't know what CD58 is

Broodybabywannabe · 13/04/2008 21:56

means im on the 58th day after the first day of my last period, basically my last period was 16=21st of feb so thats what im worried about, but didnt want it to be down to my weight IYSWIM? x

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 21:57
