Hello ladies, just wondering if anyone is planning on trying SMEP this month? Or anyone had success? Going into month 5 TTC and nearly 36 so willing to try anything.

Hey @fullofhope2024 I have been reading up on SMEP too but not sure how it would work if cycles are longer than the 28 days which mine are but willing to give anything a go lol xx

fullofhope2024 · 05/06/2024 14:53

Hi @pinkrose001 I think I’m going to use OPK then I can follow SMEP that way according to my ovulation date. I know it’s only been 4 months but turning 36 next month I’m feeling anxious. Would love to give our five year old a sibling. My cycles range from 29-32 Days so ovulation date varies each month. Generally I test from day ten with opk, not sure how long your cycles can be but wishing you all the luck

I am trying SMEP this month too, today is cycle day 10 and I already feel a bit tired 😅. Also turning 36 soon and feel like there is a flipping clock going off in my head 🙃.

This is cycle 2 of ttc our first baby after a miscarriage last year.

I am using the clearblue digital ovulation tests and am guessing that the positive result for following the SMEP is when you get a static smiley face rather than a flashing one, but not really sure.

ClassicQuill · 05/06/2024 23:19

I'm TTC, but I have no idea what SMEP is!?

Burningthroughthesky · 07/06/2024 13:35

I'm using the clearblue digital ovulation sticks and starting to feel like the flashing smiley face is laughing at me. Today is fourth day of flashing smile in a row. I've used the tests before to track my cycle before ttc (long story, but I couldn't ttc for a while as had a molar pregnancy) and I've never had four days of flashing smiles before. Literally peeing on money as started testing twice a day.

If I'm not pregnant this cycle, then think I will try a cheaper brand next, least I can see how dark the line is then rather than that constant bloody smile 😅.

spttc · 07/06/2024 13:44

I'm just starting ttc but missed ovulation this cycle while we were making up our minds. I'm trying this next month though! Good luck everyone

spttc · 07/06/2024 13:46

@Burningthroughthesky the month I got pregnant on my first baby I had 4 days flashing smiley just saying 🤞🤞🤞

MrsWeasely · 07/06/2024 20:27

I’m mid 30’s ttc my second child, just about to start cycle 3. Previously dtd every day during fertile period and ovulation as fell pregnant with my first doing this first try. Obviously isn’t working this time so I’m going to try smep this next time. Period due tomorrow and then will be trying smep and using clear blue ovulation tests 🤞

Emmzo · 07/06/2024 23:09

Good luck ladies!

I was 36 when TTC our first, tried SMEP on cycle 4 and he’s now 3.5 🥰

It was hard going at times when peak OPK meant several days without a break 😂 but together with a bit of pre-seed it worked for us.

TWW is the hardest bit (until you realise the next bit is a 9 month wait) but I found counting down the days until testing rather than adding up DPO made it a teeny bit easier.

I joined a SMEP thread back then, quite a few BFP’s came from it and even more the month after, it’s definitely worth a try and gets you DTD at the best times xx

PeachLeader · 08/06/2024 11:08

@fullofhope2024 Hiya I'm the same age as you , and currently 2dpo we've done this method this month 🤞🏼 we tried conceive plus which my best friend said was amazing for her and worked , I think I'm one of the unlucky ones and got thrush from it , obviously I'm a little to sensitive 😬😂xx

fullofhope2024 · 08/06/2024 11:30

thanks ladies for all you replies, please do keep this thread updated with how you get on.
I am day 4 of AF today so stocking up on clear blue digital ovulation sticks and pre seed. Not sure if it or conceive plus is better?

would love to get bfp before turning 36 next month and SMEP is one thing we haven’t ever done so going to try. Also trying to relax as this is cycle 5 of TTC and I know it can be early days.

I plan to use opk from day 8, I know that might be early but just want to definitely catch peak and will start the three consecutive days from the static smiley.

I wish you all the best of luck and @Emmzo thanks so much for sharing your positive experience ❤️

How’s it going for everyone?
I’m on CD10 and have just got a static smiley on clear blue ovulation. Slightly earlier than normal but not unheard of for me.

We sort of did SMEP this month and it nearly killed me. 😂 It was an accident as my cycles are being weird ATM and I just took ages to ovulate. Didn't do the 3DPO one as we were both pretty quits by then. Now 7DPO but I feel quite pessimistic about this month, I think things are all a bit weird with my cycle and I feel unsure whether I ovulated and if so when (despite OPKs), also feel like OH's swimmers may have been quite thin by the end of a long SMEP stint.

This is Cycle 3 for baby 2. With baby 1, the 'Purple method ' was the one I liked best, which was one go around CD7 then a few goes ones the OPK goes positive, it was just a lot more sustainable for us. But with my cycle being weird and unpredictable ATM and with a 13 month old limiting our opportunities to 'take the opportunity ', a more expansive approach seemed sensible.

If this isn't our month I'll be back to purple next month though.

ETA: I'm 38, conceived no 1 at 36. As a reassurance to the 36 year olds on the thread!

MisssMarion · 18/06/2024 16:02

Planning to use the SMEP method this month for the second month, although last month was exhausting and we ended up quitting early 😅 (although it was a short cycle). Pray for us it's not a 32 day cycle this time...

Edited

Not heard of the purple method so I’ll look into that. We dtd literally every night in fertile week last month (nearly killed me!) so smep is actually light relief this month 😂 hubby was gutted I told him it was only every other day this time until peak 😅

Fingers crossed! Yes I’m only on month three of trying but as the months go on it’s getting more and more exhausting. Just the sheer number of things to do and try and timings.

spttc · 19/06/2024 09:58

Hi ladies. Just starting ttc baby number 2 this month. Cycle day 2 today. I did SMEP last time... half heartedly 😂 not perfectly. But the month I set up the thread I got pregnant. I was actually just looking at the thread, time flies! So fingers crossed🤞🤞💕💕

fullofhope2024 · 19/06/2024 14:59

Hi ladies, I hope everyone is ok.
day 2 dpo today. We managed the three days in a row of SMEP then we were done. Need a few days off so didn’t skip a day then bd.

I hoping and praying there are bfp’s on this thread 🙏

early days in 2ww so no symptoms as yet for me. Had ov pains for a few days over peak days but that’s getting better.
im a terrible symptom spotter and keep saying I won’t but I always do. I’ve felt I’ve had every early pregnancy symptom the past 5 months and not yet had any luck.

Hi can I join in. I am on CD8 today and just finished bleeding from our chemical pregnancy. We are following the plan this month, but I am away for 5 days next week 😭 and Sod’s Law I will prob get positive LH whilst away. I debated not going away but I think it would actually do me a favour and relax. I am 39 counting down to 40 when google says I have absolutely no chance of conceiving 😂😂😭😭😭😭

Angelsrose · 19/06/2024 18:29

I found SMEP exhausting and it didn't work for us. I found DTD every other day after a positive ovulation test worked and I conceived last year aged 38. Good luck everyone.

Don't give up, it is possible!

Melusina123 · 22/06/2024 06:24

Well... I think SMEP has only been and gone and done it, because I had a BFP this morning!! Despite my weird long cycle. ❤️

Amazing news !!!! Congratulations! Xxx
we have not been on the ball at all. I got my first high fertility day on the CB monitor today so I think we shall start every other day until peak. But not sure if I should do every day 😂

Melusina123 · 22/06/2024 07:55

@Joleyjojo thank you. 😂 Just over here thinking sticky thoughts.

SMEP was a hard slog, tbh. Feels bad to be saying that but those who TTC get it!

With our past round of TTC, just doing the deed the day of positive ovulation test and the day after was pretty successful - I got pregnant twice this way and once only doing it on O day itself (two were MCs sadly, but at least it means I have more data...). I would have stuck with that this time around too except my cycles have been really unpredictable. So my impression is that day of positive OPK and day after are the most important ones to try and cover if you can.
