TTC for 10 months should we worry

Roseberry22 · 12/03/2024 14:11

As the title suggests we have been TTC for 10 months, should we be worried there’s something wrong?

I have been tracking BBT for around 14 months since coming off the pill and have also used ovulation tests so know that I’m ovulating.

Do I just need to be more patient as I know it can take up to a year, but with only 2 months left I’m starting to worry it might never happen.

Does anyone have any advice or success stories of conceiving after TTC for similar time?

It depends on several factors. What age are you? Different areas have different guidance but in my area if you are over 35 and have been TTC for more than 6 months then you should contact GP for testing. Under 35 you have to be TTC for one year.

There are so many factors to take into account. BMI, lifestyle, hormone levels and a plethora of other factors. We have been trying for a year, I'm 35 and have had all the tests which look good, but my BMI is high so that's likely a factor.

jenkh91 · 12/03/2024 14:33

Hey @Roseberry22 not a success story for myself (currently month 7 ttc with no luck yet!) but I have two close friends who took 12 months and 11 months to conceive, they were around 32 at the time, and their partners a few years older.

so I’m personally constantly trying to remind myself that it’s ok that it takes time, doesn’t mean it won’t happen

Fleur240 · 12/03/2024 14:34

Like PP said if you are over 35 then go see GP, if not then go after the year. We were TTC for 2 years before I fell pregnant with my DD who is now 4 months old. Had all the testing done and they couldn’t find anything wrong. Also had two failed rounds of IUI and then just before the third and final IUI attempt I conceived naturally. I think it just takes longer for some people so wouldn’t be too concerned. But definitely see GP after the aforementioned time periods as it’s best to get the testing done. Good luck 🤞

Roseberry22 · 12/03/2024 14:39

Sorry forgot to mention my age, currently 29 soon to be 30.

BMI is 23.7 so normal but to the higher end.

@jenkh91 thank you for the reassurance I think I do need to think it can happen any time and sometimes it does just take longer.

LH peak was yesterday (Monday) we DTD Saturday and Monday so hoping I still have a chance as ovulation day should be today but DH is away so we won’t manage today.

I wouldn't worry. It's quite normal to take a year, even over a year, so don't let yourself get stressed there's only two months of your year left. Have you tried lifestyle changes like no alcohol/smoking, exercise, balanced diet? Considered acupuncture, this can really help if you're finding it stressful.

Roseberry22 · 12/03/2024 15:25

@Rosesanddaisies1 thank you, I think I’m an over worrier in general so not very helpful!

I’ve tried cutting down on alcohol and only really drink a couple of times a month now but maybe could just try cutting it out altogether.

Ive started trying to eat a lot healthier this last month and have started running, more for my mental health although I know this might not be the best for TTC, but nothing seems to be haha!

@Roseberry22 hello! Sorry to be picking up on an old thread, I’m now in the same boat myself and wondering if you’ve now had success? Xx

Roseberry22 · 20/08/2024 11:35

@Pandamonium04 its no problem at all! Unfortunately we haven’t had any success, we're around 16 months TTC and now on a referral to our local fertility clinic. I went to the doctors on month 12 of trying and they booked me in for the blood tests and my husband for a sperm analysis. The results of his tests were poor and so we’re awaiting a retest which has to be 3 months after the first. Sending you all the baby dust for your TTC journey, remember it takes a healthy couple up to a year to conceive and that everyone is on their own journey. I’ve spent a lot of my TTC journey getting upset because I hear stories like oh I got pregnant first try, oh it took 3 months but you don’t always hear from those where it did take a bit longer. Are you tracking with ovulation tests and bbt to confirm ovulation? X

StressStress · 20/08/2024 12:06

If you are still not pregnant after 12 months, I recommend that you consult a healthcare professional to discuss the reasons why you have not yet had a pregnancy, and possibly carry out tests if they feel it is necessary :) I wish you all the best !

Pandamonium04 · 20/08/2024 23:11

@Roseberry22 not with bbt as I think that would stress me out even more, but with ovulation strips yes. I should’ve said this is ttc #2 and ttc #1 was much quicker 😪 naively thought it’d kinda take around the same length of time but clearly not. I’ve done my bloods and scans and all normal. SA for husband was fine as well but nonetheless having a repeat next month. And I’ve got a hycosy scheduled as well 😵‍💫 all the best to you guys too!

@StressStress thank you! Not quite at the 12 month mark yet but it is fast approaching. Ugh!

Roseberry22 · 21/08/2024 09:03

@Pandamonium04 I completely understand your worry about bbt I obsessed over the thermometer so switch to tracking via my Apple Watch so I don’t even have to think about it. Fingers crossed it happens soon for you if you’ve had your results and they’re all looking ok, it may just be taking that little bit longer this time.

I hope all goes well with your hycosy! You never know you may get pregnant straight after that x

@Roseberry22 thank you! I am dreading it. Also hate that ttc is so all consuming! I hope you and your husband have more luck soon x

Greeneyegirl · 22/08/2024 11:48

It took me 9 calendar months but 11 cycles to conceive my first at 31. I honestly think a lot of it is luck although I found it so frustrating at the time. We spent 11 months timing everything right, very healthy, lots of sex around ovulation, both on vitamins, the month we concieved we used conceive plus lube and I elevated hips afterwards. 9 months after DD was born me and DH had sex once in a month and outside of my fertile window. It was interrupted so I hopped off him immediately after he finished and bam we were pregnant anyway. I described conceiving like rolling a dice. You really want to roll a 6. Some do it first time, some do it 11th, 12th, 13th. Some drop the dice without even meaning to and it lands on a 6.

In the same boat ttc 10 months I'm 29 and partners SA wasn't the best with morphology 3% normal. I had a hycosy 1.5 months ago so currently in the second cycle since tww hoping that it helped the sperm swim through to the egg easier. All my checks ups seemed ok no blocked tubes and a good amount of eggs in each ovary but a slightly lower amh for my age of 12.9. Good luck to use in this thread hope one of us gets a bfp ASAP xx

Roseberry22 · 04/09/2024 08:16

@Lilybluexmoo1 fingers crossed for you for this month! X

@Lilybluexmoo1 I just had my hycosy on Monday! Spotted slightly on Monday, and then all fine yesterday and now actually spotting quite a bit / bordering on bleeding today (Wednesday) ugh.

my husbands’s morphology is also at 3% and the doctor didn’t seem concerned at all. He focused a lot more on motility and progressive motility.

following the hycosy and the SA results he’s basically told us to try for a few more cycles. Good luck to you and your partner x

Lilybluexmoo1 · 04/09/2024 12:40

@Pandamonium04 basically in the exact same position! I was so scared for my hycosy as well but found it absolutely fine was pleasantly surprised 😂 I started my partner on proxeed max vitamins as well so hopefully that helps his swimmers read so many good things about it! Good luck to you too keep us updated I love hearing success stories gives me hope x

HPrior · 14/10/2024 10:44

@Roseberry22 I am the same as you. Struggling TTC #2. Now 10 months in. My first child took one month of trying age 35. Have had basic blood tests and internal ultrasound and apparently nothing is wrong. AMH score was really high and husband's sperm is fine. Due to have a hycosy tomorrow and the fertility specialist also mentioned checking scar tissue from c section. All the doctors I have seen so far have basically just said it can take a while and say my expectations are just very high because of the ease with which it happened before. I just really can't see it happening now without some kind of treatment.

HPrior · 14/10/2024 10:46

Sorry meant @Pandamonium04

Pandamonium04 · 14/10/2024 13:51

@Lilybluexmoo1 @HPrior hello! So it turns out we did get pregnant after the hycosy. Currently seven ish weeks along. Went for an early scan last week which saw a heartbeat but the tiniest embryo/baby thing so still holding my breath until our next scan.

all the best to you guys! Apart from the hycosy, my husband and I started on coq10. Ironically I also told myself that it didn’t really matter if we didn’t conceive in sep - Nov as we’re travelling quite extensively this period. I think the lack of pressure/stress must have also contributed to conception. All the best!

HPrior · 14/10/2024 14:23

@Pandamonium04 congratulations! I have my hycosy coming up. I've read a lot about hycosy increasing the chances of pregnancy - trying not to get my hopes up too much but at least the thought that it might help is completely trumping any worry I have about it being painful!

Hi @Pandamonium04, could I ask, was this the same cycle you had your hycosy? I had mine this month and am now about to ovulate a week later xx

Insidenumber09 · 31/10/2024 15:07

Try not to focus on sex only before ovulation (sperm meets egg type theory) try having sex the day you think you ovulated and the day after too. A total game changer for us was using preseed lubricant if you don’t already use it - things happened very quickly for us after that after having no luck for one year. Good luck to you xx

Hey! Unfortunately not, coming up to the 18th month TTC but we’ve now been referred to our local fertility clinic for male factor infertility so that explains why we’ve struggled.

Its been such a hard year as I really hoped we’d either have a baby or end the year pregnant but thats not going to happen.

we at least know more than the start of the year though and will hopefully know more after our meeting at the fertility clinic ✨

My husbands SA results have increased ever so slightly following a Mediterranean diet and taking impryl so hopefully this will help for ICSI if we end up needing it!
