Hi 🙂, if you took asprin what was your experience with it and your pregnancy please? Any and all details welcome.

I am on a thread where we have all had miscarriages and have heard asprin can prevent this, but we would like more info from ladies who have tried this. Thank you very much in advance! xx

@Oxalis00 I’ve also wondered about my blood, I’ve had spotting in two pregnancies, and I generally don’t heal that quickly. So possibly the opposite problem?

Oxalis00 · 30/01/2024 08:31

Yeah that’s interesting @Wise0wl I did Google it a bit but couldn’t find anything useful on what might mean what. I think with previous spotting I’d be very wary of trying anything that might cause more bleeding. Progesterone might be worth thinking about though.

I took it after reoccurring MC and did have a successful pregnancy but I had an ANA marker in my blood work which it was prescribed for and so became part of maternity care and checks. I think it caused me to bleed throughout pregnancy which after so many loses caused huge anxiety.

I decided not to take it for the next pregnancy because I was still breastfeeding and there was a small risk of causing Reyes Syndrome. My next pregnancy without it was also successful and I didn't bleed throughout which made it so much easier.

Asprin isn't the same as a multivitamin and would be cautious about taking a drug in pregnancy without medical advice. Is it worth having a conversation with your doctor? Can they do any blood work for you?

Unexplained and recurrent miscarriages are heartbreaking and I hope you're able to find some answers ❤️

Hi MooMoi,
Just wondering if you know what your ANA marker was at and what pattern. Also whether you were prescribed the aspirin while trying to conceive or once you tested positive or, indeed later in your pregnancy. I too have an ANA marker.

xxcxdonxx · 31/01/2024 11:37

On my recent bloods with recurrent miscarriage, it was positive for Anti-cardiolipin antibodies. I’m sure the process is to wait until 12 weeks for another test and if that is also positive then I would be prescribed aspirin.
That feels like such a long time to wait just now so I do wonder if there is anything I could do in the meantime without the aspirin.
I’ve not heard back from my consultant on the results but happy to share any advice!

midnights0 · 31/01/2024 11:42

Can I please ask what aspirin you all buy? I've had 4 MC and if I was to get pregnant again I want to take it from my positive test, I've got nothing to lose!

Amyjones86 · 31/01/2024 19:13

@midnights0 I was prescribed 150mg so received a box of those and then after that I just bought a box from Boots (300mg) and took half a day.

Objectiontime · 07/02/2024 20:43

Just another point re aspirin if you dont mind all of you...
My research has suggested that coated asprin, while potentially slightly easier on the stomach, does not do quite the same job as uncoated aspirin.
If you are going to take it then take it with plenty of water about half an hour after an evening meal.
Do not take it immediately before laying down.
Look out for any symptoms that you may be allergic in any way (you can look these up).
A final point, aspirin has a cumulative effect. If you are prescribed it then obviously you should take it exactly as prescribed but if you are just taking it in the hope of a safe and healthy pregnancy/preventing miscarriage then you may want to try taking it once every other day or every three days as it will not lose much potency and you may save yourself stomach or other issues.

Objectiontime · 07/02/2024 20:46

One additional thing, not too sure why but you should buy the aspirin in the dose you need not cut a 300 aspirin in half for example. There is a good reason for this but I cant remember offhand what it is. No offence meant Amyjones86

AlltheFs · 07/02/2024 20:46

I haven’t had any MC but was given 75mg aspirin once pregnant as I was older (almost 41).
I had a straightforward pregnancy and birth.

110APiccadilly · 07/02/2024 20:58

I was prescribed aspirin in pregnancy because I was growing a very small baby (IUGR).

The consultant said that actually the benefits of it weren't all that clear cut for me as I'd already had a previous very small baby with no pre-eclampsia, but that the risks of taking it were low and there was some evidence it might be beneficial. He also added that the last thing we needed was for me to get pre-eclampsia on top of the IUGR, with which I agreed!

MJW1999 · 16/03/2024 08:23

Know it’s an older post but also wanted to add that I had a successful pregnancy because of aspirin I have a protein c deficiency which is basically thicker sticky blood and it clots a lot easier. My child is now 19 months and currently 3 months pregnant. On aspirin again this time round although had to purchase it as it wasn’t ready on my prescription so hoping I’ve got the right one

Ladyinpink1 · 17/03/2024 07:43

@MJW1999 it's still relevent to us at the minute so thank you for your experience, and congratulations x

Worked for me. Had 2 miscarriages then took 150mg aspirin a day from ovulation, got pregnant and now have a healthy 2 year old!

we are going to be trying again soon and I’m going to do it again for sure x

decionsdecisions62 · 17/03/2024 09:03

I did it after multiple miscarriages and that pregnancy I didn't miscarry. I carried some guilt for a while worrying if that had caused my daughter to have panic disorder. I've since realised it probably wasn't that.

Thank you ☺️ I wish you all the best in your journey ❤️ Also I wanted to add that I am also on cyclogest suppositories twice a day. These are because of my uterus shape causes miscarriages however if you have 3 miscarriages they should offer it to you although often they don’t till you ask so worth knowing as I wasn’t given it after 7 losses till I asked about them.

xxcxdonxx · 18/03/2024 07:11

Hi all, thanks for adding to the post. Can I ask when you started taking the aspirin? I’m currently in a bit of limbo as I’m waiting my second blood test for sticky blood but planning on taking the aspirin this cycle. Was it 3dpo or from bfp? I am also on Cyclogest which ill start 3 dpo.

Objectiontime · 18/03/2024 19:18

The only question I would have is that I take a reasonable dose of Omega 3. I have read that taking this together with aspirin can be a problem. On the positive side they both have some anti inflammatory effects. However they both thin the blood. Since my blood is not sticky, I have been tested, I am dubious about taking both. I need to do more research.

Ladyinpink1 · 18/03/2024 20:40

Thank you very much for taking the time to post everyone, having all this information in one place is great to read over, and I'm sure lots of ladies in the coming years with the same question will come across this and find it helpful to. 💜 xxxx

@Objectiontime that's interesting about the omega 3. I didn't know that. I was taking the aspirin and 2 of the procieve omega 3 capsules per day. No ill effects for me, and as far as I'm aware I don't have sticky blood either.

pimplebum · 19/03/2024 18:09

I did but take medical advice, not mine

Yes, amazing what info you find when you trawl for it. I swear that since my MMC I have read more medical research than a doctor might do in a whole career. If I find anything else I will post but I think maybe it depends on how much of each you take.

HeyItsMeImTheProblem · 03/04/2024 07:26

Hi OP, firstly sorry for your loses.

I had 3 miscarriages all in early pregnancy and finally had a successful pregnancy through IVF. This was supported with low dose aspirin (I can't recall if it was 50 or 75mg) and also fragmin and progesterone.

I don't know if the aspirin alone would have been the ticket but the IVF allowed for the strongest embryo to be selected.

Good luck to all of you. Flowers

Hi @xxcxdonxx I'm in this exact position right now! Second blood test on Monday to confirm. What did you do? I am thinking aspirin every other day 1DPO. Hope you've had luck with yours x

xxcxdonxx · 04/01/2025 11:06

Hey @skippy92

I think I had started taking it from 3dpo however when I had my second blood test and confirmation of sticky blood I started in my fertile window. It feels a bit like self diagnosis at this stage!

Good luck!
