Light periods since d&c

i had a d&c in May. Was almost 13 weeks. I’m so worried as my periods seem so much lighter since. I’ve always had heavy periods. Got first “period” 28 days later and was really light, more like spotting and started off dark but then did go to red but only needed a panty liner. Next period came 27 days later and was light again, the same but didn’t start off with dark. Following period was light too like spotting and more pink and seemed almost diluted if that makes sense. I had my lining checked last month at it was only 5.4mm at day 16. I’m so so worried about Ashermans. I saw dr lower last week on day 4 of this cycle and he scanned and said I seem to have a normal uterine cavity and that I would come back on 7th aug to check mid cycle lining. Has anyone else had this and did it resolve on its own. I also haven’t had any pmt before my periods where I always used to get this. I’m so so worried the surgery has wrecked my womb. I’ve had 3 pregnancies in the last 10 months but only had d&c for this last one and my periods are so not right. Thanks in advance x

OP, I'm so sorry for your losses. They're so hard and feel so much worse if you've then got the added stress afterwards of feeling like your body is not quite right.
I had the same after a D&C and knew something wasn't right. Mr Lower was my saving Grace. You really are in the best hands. I did have Ashermans and needed surgery but Mr Lower worked his magic.
We have 3 children because of him.
Asherman's is an exhausting hurdle but can be just a hurdle.
I understand your worries but please be assured it's not the end of the world. Let's hope you get more answers at your next appointment. Best of luck!

Thank you. I’ve become so depressed since as Ive convinced myself something is really really wrong, it’s all I think about at the moment. So frightened. I’m hopeful things will be ok. I didn’t know if the lack of sore boobs and pmt before my period would suggest it’s more hormonal but I think that’s just wishful thinking. It’s going to be a long week just waiting for the appt, I want it to get here but I’m afraid at the same time x

Good luck today OP!

thejollytrolleydolly · 07/08/2023 08:44

@Tryingsohardalways so sorry to hear of your loss. If it makes you feel any better my periods have been much lighter since my MMC in may. I normally have heavy and long periods but they have been really light and short since and I didn't have any medical intervention. I have booked myself on with the fertility specialist at my local doctors surgery to see if there's anything to be worried about as I thought it was strange too x

Tryingsohardalways · 07/08/2023 12:57

Just seen me lower again today. I have Ashermans. He said it’s not too bad, like a 5 out of 10 with 10 being severe. I’m booked to have surgery on 21st august to try and clear the adhesions. I’m trying to stay hopefully but feel very sad with this today x any success stories very welcome x

Had my surgery a week ago today. I have the coil taken out on 18th September then a scab two weeks later to see if it’s worked. Operation said right side was obliterated by adhesions and there were adhesions on the cervix but excellent cavity afterwards. Trying to stay hopeful but so frightened and upset too about how things will heal and if my womb will be too damaged to carry afterwards. This is so hard

@Tryingsohardalways Ive just stumbled across this thread and I just want to say, sending you lots of love!! I also had Ashermans after a D&C (diagnosed in March, op with Lower in April). It is an exhausting journey but like @InNeedOfSleepNow said, it’s not the end of the world, especially as you’ve done the right thing and seen the right doctors.
I actually conceived two weeks after having my coil out (my uterus was 60% scarred before) and I’m now 17 weeks pregnant. And I’ve met others who had the same after seeing Lower ☺️ so there is hope!! He put me on progesterone after ovulation and up until 16 weeks so worth asking if that is worthwhile for you. He did it for me because I had a short luteal phase. Good luck x

Whataretheodds · 24/09/2023 08:02

How did you get to see Mr Lower? Did you just pay to go privately directly?

InNeedOfSleepNow · 24/09/2023 08:40

Yes unfortunately if you don't have private medical insurance you pay. It's not cheap (all relative I know) but if you can find a way he's worth every penny. We were really honest with him that we were stretch in every way possible seeing him. He was brilliant and didn't do anything unnecessary to make it possible! X

Hopefulhoney6 · 24/09/2023 09:30

My BUPA health insurance paid most, so I paid £800 - everything else was covered.
I think paying privately is maybe £4k-£6k, I’m not sure….
but worth it x

Tryingsohardalways · 24/09/2023 18:19

I paid privately. I’m almost a week since coil came out and I will go back for a scan 2 weeks after my natural period, so in about 5 weeks time I guess. I’m still so frightened it hasn’t worked and I won’t be able to conceive or carry. I want this so much 😔xxx

@InNeedOfSleepNow have you had any luck ttc? What was your experience after the procedure at your scan? What was your situation when you saw him? Sorry for all the questions xxx

@Tryingsohardalways Mr L has an AMAZING success rate (I’ve seen lots of positive stories from the Facebook group on Ashermans) and he never seemed concerned that I wouldn’t be able to carry, just make sure you ask all the questions you want to ask!!

he actually saw me 2 weeks after my coil came out, so I never had a “natural” period - just the one after the hormones. He told me to track ovulation with the Clearblue sticks after that and I was v v lucky.

Don’t give up hope, you may as well TTC straight away before you see him. xx

InNeedOfSleepNow · 24/09/2023 21:33

Don't be sorry. It's a nerve wracking time. I had multiple losses. After seeing him I successfully convinced. We were one of his success stories! Was worth every penny x

Greenvelvetdress · 24/09/2023 21:39

So sorry you're going through this. I ended up with Ashermans after a d&c and needed two lots of surgery for moderate to severe adhesions.

I am now 13 weeks pregnant, I hope this gives you some hope x

You wanted success stories, I have two children because of Mr Lower. Two separate operations specifically for adhesions as well as a D&C between the two kids for a MMC which I refused to let anyone else butcher me to resolve. My lining was so thin even he thought it would be hard to carry (4.7 at thickest or something, although I forget exactly) but he got us through it and I had 2 uncomplicated pregnancies.

The only thing that was almost a given was I had retained placenta with both. I had to be really firm the second time that they didn't try and manually reopen my cervix with no pain relief like the first time 🤮🤮🤮 and instead take me straight to surgery. I'm pretty sure I have ashermans again but I have no desire for more children and symptoms are too bad at all so happy just to live with it.

To reference I had a completely obliterated cervix and lower uterus first time and 4/5 obliterated uterus second time.

Nothing I can say will reassure you but messages to maybe help you believe that it is not a certainty that children are impossible at all. Me Lower really is the best person to be seeing!

Tryingsohardalways · 25/09/2023 09:13

@Greenvelvetdress thank you for sharing xx it does give me hope. Was it natural conception? How long did it take for you to fall after your surgery? Xx wishing you all the very best xxx

@swishswashswoosh thank you for taking the time to write. That’s wonderful news for you xx May I ask what age you were when you had your little ones? Im hoping and praying this month I fall and then in about 5 weeks I’ll see me lower for my follow up scan and he will tell me I have a lovely trilaminar lining. The not knowing is so hard but I’m frightened at the same time. Trying to stay positive x

I was nearly 38 when I had my last, 35 with the first.

Greenvelvetdress · 25/09/2023 10:03

@Tryingsohardalways it was natural. It has taken a little while but that's because I had another miscarriage in-between (because of an untreated clotting disorder) but the falling pregnant part wasn't difficult... if that makes sense? Best of luck x

Tryingsohardalways · 25/09/2023 10:23

@Whataretheodds i paid privately to see mr lower

@swishswashswoosh interesting you had retained placenta with both and say it was “almost a given”.

Mr L said to me that there wasn’t a definite link and a very small chance of it (although that was talking about placenta accreta, is that different?) but to give birth on the labour ward so they can deal with it if needed. But good to know you would recommend going straight to surgery. I need to do some more research for my birth plan.

@Tryingsohardalways keep us updated on how you get on

I think combination of seriously thin lining, so thin I think Mr L was amazed I had fallen pregnant and scarring that wasn't completely resolved from surgery. I think no coincidence in where the placenta had adhered to was the same place the ashermans had been the worst both times 🤷🏼‍♀️. It was brutal to watch the medics getting it out I have to say but at least I couldn't feel anything!!

Makes sense!!

@Tryingsohardalways not sure if you have come across this website but it’s a useful resource and I found it reassuring: https://www.ashermans.org/information/explainity-explains-asherman/
