Oh and I would not care at all if my sis was pg, I would just be delighted for her. How could it ruin my day?

NatalieJane · 28/02/2008 13:44

I wouldn't be upset at having a pregnant MOH, depends how much of a Bridezilla she is being I think!

You've no one (i.e. family) around for support have you if it turned out he did have to go after 2 weeks? From what you say, it doesn't sound like throwing caution to the wind would be the best plan, practicality wise and health wise.

Have you spoken to him about it yet? Maybe with him knowing the situation fully, he can can up with an alternative plan?

NatalieJane · 28/02/2008 13:53

Right back to the room, hope you can get something sorted out LG&T, sorry I've not been any help, I just can't think of a way round it, from an outside POV.

See you if I don't get eaten

largeginandtonic · 28/02/2008 13:53

Nope no family round, my mil may be an hour away though by then. So much better than the last time he went away and i was preg and all on my own. I think she may be a bit bridezilla about it, dunno. Maybe i should ask her?

Oh bum and pants

Oh and Christobel you will be fine with a baby for a year or so, so I wouldn't worry about that as long as you think you will be able to afford to move to a bigger place in a couple of years or are prepared to compromise areas at some point.

Part of our problem is that I don't want to go back to work after having baby, I might have to part time but I am hoping that I can avoid it if possible. Thats means loosing my salary is a big deal, its not just a temporary maternity leave thing, so we need to be as financially secure as we can be. Now I know there is never the right time and I know we will never have "enough" money but waiting ttc till sept really will make a big difference to us, so I think it is an acceptable period of time to wait.

Playingthewaitinggame · 28/02/2008 14:00

LG&T, if it was my sister I would talk to her, but then again I am close to my sister and I can tell you right now she wouldn't care! Its difficult without knowing the people involved.

Christobel79 · 28/02/2008 14:11

LG&T, my best friend was 8 months pregnant when she was bridesmaid at my wedding - was a bit of a problem fitting her into a dress but she looked lovely on the day and it was quite handy having 1 sober bridesmaid!

Waitinggame, I would love not to go back to work but not sure if we could afford - was thinking maybe part-time but would have to do our sums! It's hard to know what to do isn't it?

Playingthewaitinggame · 28/02/2008 14:20

Yes it is Christobel, rest assured whatever you choose it will never be "right". I think you just have to go with what feels right for you. I know I could not go back to work full time, otherwise I would probably ttc right now as we could ride over the dip of salary for a few months. So that is why we have to wait till Sept. Then we are just going to go for it and see what happens. 18mnths is a long time (and that is assuming I get pg straight away which is unlikely) so by the time maternity leave is over who knows where we will be living/how much DH will be earning so maybe SAHM will possible. Worst case scenario will be part time work, and I could live with that, but we will just see what happens.

Playingthewaitinggame · 28/02/2008 16:38

Right, I am heading off early today as I didn't get a chance to do the banking at lunch so I figured I might as well do it at the end of the day as the bank is only 200m from my house! Yay, get to actually get home on time as well!!! Speak to you all later. Bye

NatalieJane · 28/02/2008 16:57

OK the room is done, and I didn't find one loofah

Got five minutes before putting the boys tea on, and then look forward to kids bed time so me and DH can have a ..... ahem nice evening, he nipped in at lunch time but didn't have time for anything other than a brew, so feel like I've missed out!!

Looks like my five minutes are up, smells like someone want's his nappy changing!! Oh the joy of kids....!

lardylumps · 28/02/2008 17:12

Good evening ladies. Hope you are all well. NJ what did you do about the tooth? I like the letter idea myself.

LG&T I would wait until december if i was you. Because it is hard enough on your own with a new baby let alone with 7 children, you really need your partner to be with you imo.

Cosmogirl · 28/02/2008 17:44

Hi folic acid lovers,

Hope everyone is good. I started the new job this week and it is going really well so far. Everyone seems really nice and have been given a proper induction, not just dumped in at the deep end!
Went to see HR the other day and asked if I could get hold of a copy of the staff handbook (scrounging for the maternity policy). However, they said they are currently updating it and will post on intranet soon.....
Bit bummed because really wanted to find out what the qualifying periods for the enhanced maternity policy are....

Cosmogirl · 28/02/2008 17:45

Don't want to ask to specifically see the policy, as word may get out (HR people are supposed to be discreet I'm sure, but don't fancy risking it - plus it is personal and don't want to share with strangers). Does anyone else know of company's enhanced schemes? Do they generally tend to be 12 months service before you leave on maternity - or is it more like 2 or 3 years? (please say it's not!!) I know I should find out, but will have to wait for now.....just wondered if anyone could share their scheme, so I can see if there is a general trend, ie: 1 year/2 years service......

Would like to stick with my Dec waiting date - but if it is 2 year continuous, will be more like July for trying. Other option is I forget about the enhanced and just settle for the basic. Sorry for going on... Good luck to those who are already ttc.

lardylumps · 28/02/2008 18:06

Our company give the min. Anyone who is employed while pregnant (regardless of how long or how many hours you work) is entitled to Ordinary maternity leave. This means you quaify for 6 weeks at 90% pay and 28 weeks at £106 (or there abouts) a week. If you have worked for your employer for at least 26 weeks (6 months) by the 15th week before baby is due then you are entitled to Additional maternity leave which is unpaid and can be upto 26 weeks.

lardylumps · 28/02/2008 18:23

Its very quiet here tonight. Cosmo it looks like it is just us two.

Cosmogirl · 28/02/2008 19:36

Thanks LL. Tis quiet isn't it? Maybe I should just budget for the basic maternity pay....I don't want to have to put ttc on hold for an extra year because of the 'qualifying period', doesn't seem right somehow to let a work's policy dictate your life.

lardylumps · 28/02/2008 19:40

most places dont pay extended maternity leave anyway ours dont. But no dont put off ttc it is more important by far.

Cosmogirl · 28/02/2008 19:43

Thanks LL - just what I needed to hear! Roll on December....

lardylumps · 28/02/2008 19:44

You go girl....

MoosMa · 28/02/2008 19:46

I worked for the NHS and I got 6 weeks at 90% pay then the rest of the 6 months at 50% plus about £ahundredandsomething a week, then I could have had 6 more months unpaid but I went back. I worked the minimum I could (3 months) then left. If I'd left any sooner I would have had to give some back the extra 50% IYSWIM?

Earlier on NJ said 'And lastly, 4: we have one rule, no info is too much info!' so now I shall tell you DH's reason for waiting to ttc. He said I have to 'be like you were when I married you, you know, the fit 21 year old, so I know you're still in there!' so I have a few favours I have to do before I'm allowed to get all big and whaley again! Last pg I had thrush for about 7 months so so I think I have to put in the work in advance now in case that happens again!

MoosMa · 28/02/2008 20:10

Sorry I forgot to say, I had to be there for 6 months before the 15th week before EDD to qualify for all that.

kayzisbroody · 28/02/2008 20:31

Hello,
I've just finished work and Im bored.
I'm quite nervous about tomorrow morning!!

I want to go out Saturday night. If I find out Im pg can you give me any ideas for not drinking without giving it away?

MoosMa · 28/02/2008 21:25

Can you say you're driving? Or that you just don't feel well/are up the duff/have to get up early the next day...?

MoosMa · 28/02/2008 21:25

Good luck for the morning!

kayzisbroody · 28/02/2008 21:37
