Heya, after mcc in January I've been crazy about tracking everything which just makes me more anxious, last month Proov pdg tests was negative and this month weak ovulation, so 2 pos and then 2 negative.
By a big surprise a got a very faint line yesterday and today on preg test!
Now looking to get on progesterone supplements but GP said I better go to a private clinic as nhs might take a while and might not even give it as I've had 1 mcc. Anyone got experience with nhs vs private for the supplements?
Worried that the tests showed weak progesterone so really worried it will end in mc again

Personally I'd book privately so you Ca get a prescription asap and start it as soon as possible. Could you GP not prescribe it ? There's a lot of information on the Tommys website and even a print out you can bring to the GP if they're reluctant to prescribe? Mine didn't know enough about it so I ended Il paying privately to see a doctor and iv the meds sitting at home ready to go just need the BFP 😂 (I'm not the NHS tho I'm based in Ireland, but I do know it's the same criteria for both countries that you would need to have had 3 miscarriages to qualify for the recurrent miscarriage clinic)

Hankthehonk · 05/06/2023 14:40

Sorry I can't give any advice but following on because I suspect I might have low progesterone. I need to get the Proov tests to check myself, but I am also considering asking my GP to check. Would you recommend Proov? I'm tracking everything else.
I wasn't ovulating or having periods at all the first time we were ttc, and GP ran tests after 6 months which showed low pdg, she suspected PCOS but I didn't have many symptoms. I was referred for fertility but miraculously ovulated and got pregnant with my daughter who is now almost 3.
Now we're ttc #2 and I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks in March. I'm worried that pdg levels might have played a part in the loss, but of course NHS just say there's no way of knowing what caused it etc.

Can anyone share roughly how much it costs to go private for progesterone tests and prescription? I am worried we might not be able to afford it.

vvit · 05/06/2023 15:28

@Hankthehonk I find it useful to o guess get more insight but probably just made me more anxious. I so desperately want to have a baby that having that information from Proov gave me a bit of power.
Gp doesn't really believe their tests even they are medically proven

@Daniki gp said they can't prescribe it? Really weird as I thought they can! She said I better go private as she doesn't think nhs will give it, that's just crazy, if it could prevent mc why wouldn't they.

@vvit I'm the same, obsessively tracking LH and BBT, and testing too much when I think there's a chance of pregnancy. Adding pdg to the mix wouldn't change that since I'm already in obsessive mode! I think if I'm not lucky this cycle I'll order Proov.
My GP last time around was deeply unhelpful, dealing with them was very stressful and I had to massively push to be taken seriously. Thankfully I have a good friend who is a GP who was able to sort of guide me and tell me what I was entitled to (e.g. testing after 6 months of no periods) so I could be more confident. I have moved house since then and new GP was incredibly lovely and helpful when I had the miscarriage. So if irregular cycles and other symptoms continue I will try speaking to her about progesterone levels.

Hi all! I thought I would jump in as I have just started using the proov pdg tests and couldn’t find a lot of info on them. I took my first one today at 7dpo, ideally you need to take the first 1 within the first 5 days after your period to get your ‘baseline’ however I didnt know or do this. After taking my first one today I saw an extremely faint test line, to the point the picture couldn’t pick it up.. (normally i would be excited by a vfl on a test but with the pdg test you don’t want that 2nd line!) and according to the instructions this is a negative that I had, but when i took the picture on the app it said it was a positive and so I contacted proov for advice and they said it was positive too. It’s all very confusing and i’m hoping someone with more knowledge on them finds this thread and can cast some light haha! x

@Laurens95 mine were very light at first but then got darker, maybe I was taking them too late as my LH had a weird surge that month one day positive then negative then positive again 🤷🏼‍♀️
But this month I had two days positive and then two days light lines wasn't low but was medium so not as low as baseline, all in all I was 99% sure I wasn't pregnant and now that I am I'm just much more anxious something gone wrong 😭
Did manage to book private for tomorrow so hope to get progesterone!

@vvit I think taking all these tests actually end up causing more stress, however you are giving me hope that I could still be pregnant regardless of what the pdg tests say! I have everything crossed for you that everything is ok and you have a happ, healthy pregnancy ☺️🤞🏻✨ x

Hankthehonk · 10/06/2023 07:07

My Proov tests arrived and I'm 7 days past peak so I'm using them. I know I'm supposed to have set a baseline but I haven't...Will do after next period if we're not successful this cycle. I'm limiting the usefulness of Proov being impatient, but I really want to know if my progesterone levels are low.
I tested just now and at first I thought it was a clear positive but the proov app says it's negative/almost positive. Sure enough I can see the faintest line. Pic attached.

@vvit I'd somehow missed the sentence in your original post where you said you got a bfp!! Congratulations and hope your doctor is being supportive and you get progesterone supplements if you need them

vvit · 10/06/2023 08:31

@Hankthehonk thank you! Still very early! I managed to go private to get progesterone, as nhs wouldn't offer until the scan at 7 weeks and I think the first weeks are the most important

OP posts:
vvit · 10/06/2023 08:33

@Hankthehonk I can't see the line in pic at all! But all mine were negative (two lines for one month) but it started almost invisible and then every day got a bit stronger. Last month I had two clean positives just one line and then two with tiny two lines.

Hankthehonk · 11/06/2023 06:53

@vvit That's great you got the progesterone already, it seems crazy to me that it's hard to access on the NHS if it could prevent miscarriage and is a low risk medication/supplement. Hope it keeps going well for you, will you get a 7 week scan then?

I got a positive proov test this morning (7dpo/8dpp) which is a pleasant surprise. Hope for this cycle is creeping in 😖

vvit · 11/06/2023 08:03

@Hankthehonk that's great! Makes you feel def better when you get that pos pdg!
My scan is on 22nd.
Just after mcc every day is very anxious

Hankthehonk · 11/06/2023 09:23

@vvit I understand, I had a mc in march as well. Currently so focused on getting pregnant but I know if/when I am anxiety will take over. I don't have much advice I guess just take it a day at a time and try to look after yourself.

Firsttimemumtobee · 13/06/2023 13:20

Hi @vvit can I please ask how you went about getting progesterone? My dr has suggested it following a mc and chemical, but still worry they won't give it early. Currently in the 2ww

vvit · 13/06/2023 13:38

@Firsttimemumtobee nhs won't give it until 7weeks scan, as they have to assure baby is there.
I ended up with phone consultation with private gynaecologist was £280 and he prescribed me 200mg twice a day progesterone. It's not as high as nhs gives, I think they do 400mg, but I think it's after 3mc when they do higher dose.

I've bought two weeks from the pharmacy and after early scan will see do I need to buy the rest if we see a heartbeat

I ended up getting three days of positive Proov pdg tests after the first day being negative...and today I got my bfp on a pregnancy test! I'm only 9dpo so was shocked - I'd had some symptoms but to be honest when I took it this morning it was with the mindset that I would get a bfn and put the niggling question about pregnancy out of my head. The line was pretty clear, on a frer then a boots early test.

Today's pdg test was lower than the last two days though. The last two were both 7 i.e. as high as it goes, today's was 5.1 which is just barely positive. However they were still positive so maybe I'm worrying myself for nothing.

@vvit did you continue to test pdg with Proov when you got your bfp? I'm wondering if I should order more and keep an eye on progesterone? Or should I try asking GP about it? I'm so worried about another miscarriage

vvit · 13/06/2023 14:19

@Hankthehonk congratulations! That's amazing news, and getting to know so early!

I didn't continue pdg tests as the last two were negative - well was like 3.2 or something, so really I didn't even think I was preg.

I did get on emailing every private gynaecologist to ask can they prescribe progesterone and did find someone, so I'm on that now.

GP can't do anything as they not allowed to prescribe it without the 6 weeks scan. So she said just go private.
To be honest the private doctor wasn't very convinced about these Proov tests and said the latest studies shown that taking prog is not really much of a difference. But he did give it to me ask I said there is nothing bad about taking it, it could only make things better

@vvit thanks for the info, will do that once I get my positive! Hope all goes well for you ☺️

Just jumping on here as going to call my GP tomorrow to see if I can be prescribed this or not, doesn't sound like I should get my hopes up! I jad a mmc in January and am going through a mc again at the moment. With my first born I had a bleed at 5 weeks and turned out he should have been a twin, so in Mt eyes that's 3 mc all within the first 6 weeks each time. EPAU suggested I ask to go on progesterone.

@RoseH36 defo ask if you can get on it. Sorry you're going through a loss at the moment 😫 I had two losses myself and ended up paying privately for a prescription as no way did I want to possibly go through a third loss x

RoseH36 · 18/06/2023 13:04

@Daniki thank you. That's why I'm keeping things crossed they'll see the first one as a mc even if I did have a baby. I really don't want to go through it again just to get a prescription. Also not getting any younger! The 3 mc rule just seems daft if it could help us.

@RoseH36 yep I agree! As if it's not traumatic enough 🫠 I'm sure they would see it as 3 tho! X

I hope so! Has it helped you? x
