It's been recommended I have a HyCoSy, I went for a scan yesterday CD14 to check my follicles match my amh, and was told I've already ovulated this month. Now I'm worried with the bank hols next month I may not get in early enough in my cycle. My cycles are 31 days like clockwork and periods last 3-4 days, while you can earlier than day 1 of your cycle to book in orc leave it to chance and keep everything crossed?!
Anyone's experiences of the procedure would be good too. Thanks!

Congrats @ChateauProvence !

I had mine the other week, was all clear, now 5/6 DPO and crossing my fingers this might be our month after 9 cycles TTC.

I had a difficult experience though. To cut a v long story short, they couldn’t get through my cervix and when they did the balloon wouldn’t stay in place. Tried several times. Had to do an awful pinching procedure which was the most pain I’ve ever felt in my life. Still didn’t work. Had to get dressed and wait 30 mins for another consultant to come available to use a different method. Had four pairs of hands on me at one point! All was fine in the end, the team were amazing, warm, friendly and reassuring. Lots of gunk and a bit of blood. No pain or cramping at all after the procedure - I even cycled home.

vitahelp · 05/07/2023 09:04

@Sierra26 I'm sorry to hear about your experience, that sounds awful! They had a bit of trouble with mine too and couldn't get the catheter in with the first speculum so ended up having to use a different speculum. But that's nothing compared to your experience, it must have been a relief that you weren't too sore afterwards. I was expecting to be tucked up in bed for the afternoon but I also felt ok and ended up going for a run 😂
I really hope this is your month, especially since your tubes were found to be clear as you should now have that fertile boost that the test gives for a few months afterwards.

lollosmash · 05/07/2023 13:45

Gosh @Sierra26 sorry to hear it was so dramatic - you're a trooper for getting through it. And glad you felt ok after yours @vitahelp .

Good and bad news on my end. I did get my first ever BFP (after 18 months TTC) on the cycle after the HyCoSy. Unfortunately I am now having an early miscarriage. Obviously totally gutted, but holding on to the hope that it's now more possible for us to conceive again at some point.

Good luck you all x

Sierra26 · 07/07/2023 08:21

Thanks @vitahelp , sounds like no HyCoSy is ever the same 😂

So sorry to hear of your loss @lollosmash , how are you feeling? Great you’re able to look on the positive side, but it can’t make going through this any easier. Sending love xx

Im dying to test but going to wait. My early negative indicator is I usually spot a few days before AF shows so if that doesn’t happen by CD25 I’ll be getting curious…

vitahelp · 07/07/2023 08:32

@lollosmash I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I hope you are ok. I'm glad you are more hopeful now though about conceiving.

@Sierra26 Well done holding off testing. I haven't tested either, I haven't done for a few cycles now, and whilst I feel a bit in the dark it does help not having that horrible disappointment of a BFN. I hope the spotting doesn't happen this month and you go on to get a BFP!

I'm 13dpo today and AF is due tomorrow. I was starting to get quite hopeful yesterday as I usually get headaches for a few days leading to AF and haven't noticed them this time. But this morning I decided to randomly take my temp when I woke up - I used to temp chart in the early days so know the norms for me - and this morning it seemed very low so I'm almost certain I'm out.

Sierra26 · 07/07/2023 13:37

Sorry to hear that @vitahelp . I temp too and like clockwork it drops to 36.1 or lower the day AF is going to arrive. I always end up looking for examples of people whose temp didn’t stay high in pregnancy but I think it’s a pretty consistent thing..! :(

I'm 5 days since my hycosy. I've never felt pain like this in my life. I'm dosed up on super strong anti inflammation meds and strong pain killers and constant hot water bottles. Sitting up in bed at midnight trying to get through it.

The procedure was so painful much worse than a period and that day I bled so much I filled a pad on the way home. The next day it was just spotting. The cramps have got worse and worse. The hospital say it could be an infected thempain shouldn't be there. The gp says it's just my body jot reacting to the trauma well.

I'm flying for the first time in years tomorrow and I'm petrified. I can't bare how much it hurts. I'm scared. No one else seems to have pain on day 5.

MoreCheesePleaseAndThankyou · 01/08/2023 07:08

Your GP is an idiot. You need antibiotics. The Hospital post care paperwork is very clear. Pain that worsens after the procedure = infection.

LillyWP · 01/08/2023 10:46

I agree. Doesn't sound right at all co,pared to other peoples experiences

Sierra26 · 01/08/2023 22:38

@LillyWP im so sorry, this sounds awful and so stressful. Agree with PP, you need antibiotics. My doctor gave me a course to take as a precaution, did you get that too?

I had pain and bleeding during the procedure but nothing after.

really hoping this clears up soon for you xx

Cloclo93 · 09/11/2023 14:19

Hi everyone any updates with pregnancies after hycosy? I've had my 1st hycosy today 2 years ttc, my cycle day 12 the consultant did say I had a egg ready to be released but not to ttc for the next 3 days incase of infection! I really don't want to miss this cycle ;(

vitahelp · 09/11/2023 17:47

@Cloclo93 Sadly no news for me, it’s been 4 months now so think the Hycosy magic will have worn off by now. I did hear so many good things about them though and subsequent pregnancies so I really hope it works for you! I can’t remember what CD I was on but I was told we could carry on TTC straight away. What day do you usually ovulate?

nutellacreppe · 09/11/2023 18:15

I had a HyCoSy last month. Like others I did experience some pain, but only in my right tube which was clear but had some 'pooling' whatever that means ? I think it just went through a bit slower or something? It was fine in the left but excruciating in the right.

I recommend anyone having one to take the painkillers. I took ibuprofen + co-codamol and don't think I could have got through it without!

Have had an IUI this month so waiting to see if it worked (currently in the TWW). Fingers crossed.

CreativCarly · 09/11/2023 21:25

@Cloclo93 I would be trying if I were you, seems like everyone is told different things. Best of luck

Cloclo93 · 09/11/2023 21:35

@vitahelp I think my ovulation day varies from day 12 to 17, my egg today was 19mm so it very well be released today or tomorrow! Month 4 is still early I read its effective up to 6 months 🤞
@nutellacreppe that tww must be excruciating you must be symptom spotting every little thing! I will do a iui in January if this hycosy fails to kick start things. Did you do a natural iui?
@CreativCarly thanks I think I will just try straight away! I already had a course of antibiotics last night so hopefully they should stay in my system for a few day xx

Sierra26 · 10/11/2023 07:44

No news after mine in July. I’m on third cycle of letrozole to boost ovulation (usually prescribed for PCOS which I don’t have, but I didn’t want to go straight to IVF). But if this cycle doesn’t work we’ll be getting the IVF referral next month

nutellacreppe · 10/11/2023 08:06

@Cloclo93 Yes natural IUI for us - still in the first week so I'm not thinking about it too much - next week will be the killer! Good luck to you as well!

Karmud · 16/07/2024 17:08

Hi all, I had a HyCoSy 2 weeks ago and safe to say I was super nervous. I've previously had a pipelle biopsy and wondered if the pain levels were similar. I can confirm the pipelle biopsy isn't too bad at all. There was no pain for me when the balloon went in or inflated, slight discomfort when they flushed saline solution but I definitely felt extreme sharp pain when they tried to put the dye in the tubes. I had to ask them to stop and they were able to confirm one tube was fine whilst the other was inconclusive. I wasn't able to let them do it again. My pain threshold is pretty low, now that I know what it consists of, I probably could give it another go? Half the time because you tense up and are anxious, the pain almost becomes worse. It's a sharp sensation in your lower abdomen, definitely more painful than a strong period pain. I felt like pushing down hard on my abdomen to soothe but wasn't allowed. It lasted about 15 seconds but was enough for me to say hell no to continuing. Everyone's pain threshold is different - I do wish they would sedate us for these procedures or give us pain relief. I did take paracetamol and ibuprofen beforehand.
