I’m currently taking folic acid & vitamin D vitamins. But I’m not sure if the ones I’m taking would be the right strength if anyone else is taking these exact ones? (I know my folic acid is fine it’s these vitamin D ones)

I have ordered the seven seas trying for a baby, but after read on this forum that quite a lot of people have found they have really messed with their cycle, I’m not sure I’m going to take them.

any advice welcome, or what else I should also take ontop of these?

Hi, I had recurrent miscarriages and my vitamin D blood test was low, so my gp told me to take 1000 vitamin D, then I saw a private gynaecologist where she discussed my miscarriages and told me to up my intake to 2000 daily from the ones in Holland and barret. It never messed with my cycle. Maybe if you’ve got normal vitamin d level then just ask someone in Holland and barret what the normal recommendation is

Pitstop1986 · 27/03/2023 13:00

I think that the rda is 15 ug (600 units ) so yours is just under the rda, but if you're getting some sunlight you should be fine. If you're going to buy more, make sure that it's vitamin D3 as that's more easily absorbed. I take 1000 units of d3 and 400 of folic acid. Good luck and enjoy the baby making journey!

Nmmck93 · 27/03/2023 13:03

@TTCnumbertwo2 - oh I might call to Holland and Barret and see what they have. I haven't seen anyone post that the seven seas trying for a baby have actually not messed with their cycle and mines where just delivered this morning so I'm sceptical on taking those.

@Pitstop1986 thank you, I live in Northern Ireland so not much sunlight lol. But I'll do a bit more research on where to get vitamin D3 and order some of those instead, I'll take these until then. Thank you. You two 💜

@Nmmck93 I'm also in Northern Ireland, i had my vitamin D levels checked and they were low. Mind you , this was over the winter tho.
If its any help the fertility consultant told me to just take folic acid , vitamin d and something like pregnacare so I'm assuming she wanted me to take extra vitamin d which I only started doing recently.
I take the viridian vitamin d in liquid form as opposed to tablet as its apparently absorbed more easily and as it's a dropper you can also control how much your taking as if your out on sunny days you probably won't need as much anyway and other times I'll take the spray in your mouth vitamin d and k2 since they work in harmony and ensures any calcium you take goes into your bones as opposed to being deposited in your arteries.
I really alternate with supplements. One month I'll take a really good quality brand like terrnanova or viridian pre natals as they have no bulking agents fillers or binders and dont use generic lab vitamin mix where possible but they are pricey around £20 for one month but because I have pcos I have to take other supplements which cost me a bloody fortune so some months I'll just stick with the cheaper pregnacare. I prefer the one with the extra tablets , I think they are the pregnacare max as they have some added extras like DHA and use folate which is the natural form as opposed to folic acid which many women can't actually absorb in the body. They are around £10 on amazon for a months supply

Nmmck93 · 29/03/2023 14:18

@MK85 thank you so much for that,
i’m gunna write the names of all those down and look at them later tonight.
I also have PCOS and Endo - first month actively trying and tracking and on 6DPO.
I have the seven seas trying for a baby at home.
I was considering going to the doctors to get levels checked and an all round checkup.
I was actually thinking about calcium, a so don’t drink milk or eat anything dairy really. I’d love to be able to take one all round tablet that would have everything I need in one.
but completely open to having to take a few if I get the right list of things to take.

The nhs suggests that 10ug should be taken which is 400IU of vitamin d

12.5ug is 500IU

You can take up to a maximum of 100ug or 4000IU without medical advice

Nmmck93 · 29/03/2023 14:20

@dementedpixie so do you reckon that could be too much that I'm taking?
I really want to give my body the vitamins it needs in aid to help fall pregnant.
So I'm open to advice on suggestions of brands and things.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 29/03/2023 14:22

No its not too much
You can take up to 100ug and yours are 12.5ug
BetterYou does a spray one in various strengths

Nmmck93 · 29/03/2023 14:26

I've just went onto boots and seen that these seem to be highly reviewed and on offer so was considering maybe this?
Although as I've stated I do have seven seas trying for a baby at home but have read some negative reviews on those so I haven't started taking those yet.

There's been threads on here about pregnacare affecting cycle length. What is the vitamin D content of them?

Nmmck93 · 29/03/2023 14:32

@dementedpixie - I've also read that about seven seas aswell but I had purchased two boxes before actually reading reviews. But a few ladies on here have said they've had no problem. This is the pregnancy packaging.

I just think it's a lot of money to pay to pee most of it all out again. All nhs advises is folic acid and vitamin d.

Nmmck93 · 29/03/2023 14:34

@dementedpixie and this is the trying for a baby, which has less vitamin D.

You could always take the seven seas ones with a vitamin d tablet on top as that wouldn't exceed the vitamin d limit

Nmmck93 · 29/03/2023 14:39

@dementedpixie thank you very much! i’m also going to get some Calcium as I’ve read on google that also needs to be increased and I don’t eat dairy - not for any reason other than I don’t really like it lol

These messed up my cycle

Reugny · 29/03/2023 14:46

OP if you are going to spend money on supplements then it is worth getting tested first.

If you just want to find out your vitamin D level, as it is a fat soluble vitamin, you can get a private vitamin D test if you haven't had one from a NHS lab that does private work - https://www.vitamindtest.org.uk/

Then once you have had your test if you are low you can supplement at the right amount to increase your levels.

There are other providers of vitamin and mineral tests but they don't do home test kits.

In regards to B vitamins like folic acid as they are water soluble you can supplement them but you will end up pee them out if you take excess and don't have kidney problems.

Reugny · 29/03/2023 14:47

There are other providers of vitamin and mineral tests but they don't do home test kits.

Sorry that isn't strictly true but their home test kits that you post off often can't give you all the results they list due to the amount of blood taken being too little.

Mushroo · 29/03/2023 14:48

Pregnacare also messed up my cycle - started taking them and had a 37 day cycle.

Back to normal once I stopped.

Nmmck93 · 29/03/2023 14:52

@Un7breakable pregnacare or seven seas?

@Reugny thank you for that, I could nearly bet that I’m low due to living in such a miserable city where we get sun for like 2 weeks on a year 🙈 but I do appreciate your advice. I’m definitely going to sit down tonight and look into the home kit and maybe contact my doctor for a test there first.

@Mushroo oh, so maybe stay away from those. It’s just so hard to know what to give your body in preparation.

MK85 · 29/03/2023 15:11

I haven't tried the seven seas but I've had no issue with the pregnacare but I suppose it all depends. Those people who found it lengthend their luteal phase may have accumulated too much in the body. Our bodies are really temperamental. Too much of something, too little of something, stress, even one night of bad sleep can all wreck havoc on our cycle.
If you can afford it , there's lots of health and wellbeing centres around that offer testing for vitamin and mineral levels so you can gather where your at and what your lacking ect . Alot of places that offer acupuncture ect would offer it. It's around £50

Since you have pcos If your not getting enough fish I'd also really recommend supplementing with an omega or vegan algae supplement to support egg quality

MK85 · 29/03/2023 15:12

Oh and good luck for this cycle 🤞 I'm currently 4DPO

Nmmck93 · 29/03/2023 15:14

@MK85 thank you, yeah there’s a place in the city that does all kinds of tests they send me multiple emails ever since I got a covid test for going to Spain so might look into there aswell as my doctor.
oh thank you, I’ll look into an omega supplement aswell.

Nmmck93 · 29/03/2023 15:14

@MK85 you too! The TWW is taking its time. Trying to hold out as long as I can to test. 🙈

OP posts:
MK85 · 29/03/2023 15:29

@Nmmck93 Gps will very likely offer you routine testing if they think you need it like blood pressure, blood sugars, thyroid stuff like that to check general health when trying for a baby. Weather or not they would offer hormone testing or not really depends on the doctor and how much of a stiffer they are for saving money. Are your cycles regular? As if so I found gps wouldn't help us at all. It was only when my cycles became very irregular that the gp ordered bloods to check my hormone levels . My pcos was quite bad tho at that time and we have since been referred on to fertility clinic in belfast , Although in past few months I've had regular periods and managed to get pregnant in december but ended up in a loss so I'm really hoping we get lucky again
