Anyone else with 1 ovary?

I need positive stories as I'm starting to loose hope 🤦🏻‍♀️
I had my right ovary removed in July 2021 due to a dermoid cyst, have also previously had one on my left ovary... Have now been TTC since Jan 2022, I'm now on cycle 14 of trying!
I have alternate cycle lengths, one month 23-24 days, the next 26-27 days... Does anyone else with 1 ovary have this? I'm very regular in the sense that it's alternate 😂

My sister has one ovary and two children (conceived after she lost first ovary)

All the best to you 💐

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/01/2023 18:06

My aunt conceived ok with one ovary, and I don’t think it’s necessarily a major issue - however if there are issues anyway, it could obviously magnify them.

What does your GP say / are you going to start fertility treatment?

peachgreen · 27/01/2023 18:07

Me! Well I have both, but only one works – the other was damaged during the same surgery you had. Took me 9 months but I did conceive naturally! I figured it would take me twice as long, haha.

How often are you having sex?

Icecreamandapplepie · 27/01/2023 18:07

One ovary here, 3 children conceived quickly, one mc.

Good luck.

Napmum · 27/01/2023 18:13

My friend found out that she was born with only one ovary she got pregnant naturally twice and now has two kids.

MintJulia · 27/01/2023 18:19

I lost an ovary and tube to a necrotic dermoid when I was 34. I had a nasty abdo infection and once sorted, I was told at the time I would be unable to have children.

Ten years later I went to the GP because I was feeling horrendously tired, and thought my thyroid was playing up.

She took some blood and rang me the next day.

MintJulia · 27/01/2023 18:22

Once she'd finally convinced me I was pregnant, I had to go back to find out how far gone I was. And there was ds on the ultrasound. It was a shock, which eventually turned into a nice shock 😀

My GP told me a few months ago that she "wouldn't be worried if it took nearer 2 years..." 🤷🏻‍♀️ I've booked an appointment with a different GP at the practice for early Feb. I'm 28 now, I don't really want to wait another year before any intervention

I've been doing the ovulation tests... Once my AF is over every other day, then once the ovulation test is pos up to twice a day for a few days... It's definitely not the timing of DTD that's the issue, I'm not sure what it is 😕

Aww that's amazing! 🥰

Lost my left ovary and tube at 24 due to a 19lb cyst - my gynae had no clue how long it had been there but said it was likely that the right one had started pulling the left one's weight so having just the one wasn't a cause for concern.

Unfortunately, I did end up having to get the right one removed as it kept popping up with a nasty cyst that survived two drainings before they took the whole wretched thing out but they were able to do a quick IVF cycle before they removed it and now have a lovely 16 month old.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

watchingthesnowfall · 28/01/2023 02:58

I had my right ovary removed at 21 because of a dermoid cyst. Went on the pill and came off to try and conceive, got pregnant the second month. Same again with DD2. Surprise third child conceived after one night of too much Prosecco and throwing caution to the wind! I was told the remaining ovary just takes over if the other is missing. Good luck!

ThomasinaLivesHere · 28/01/2023 08:56

I keep forgetting which ovary was removed but yes I have just one. It was removed when I was 30 due to a cyst.

I conceived first child at 34 on 2nd attempt. Now trying for 2nd child and hoping to be as lucky.

TenTenEleven · 28/01/2023 09:01

My brother and I both came from my mum's one ovary after she lost the other to an ectopic pregnancy.

LeopardLover · 28/01/2023 14:33

I know of someone who has had 3 kids with one ovary! After the first child was born the Dr said it was unlikely they'd conceive again... Then they had another two separate pregnancies! There's definitely hope 😊

Callie25 · 28/01/2023 20:14

Thank you 🥺
I've booked a gp appointment for early Feb, hopefully I'll get some answers 🤞🏼

I had one ovary removed and then went on to have two children. No issues, both conceived within a couple of months of starting trying.

Dogsandbabies · 28/01/2023 20:25

I have one ovary. Same reason as you. Had the ovary removed during my first c-section. Since then I have been pregnant 5 times and have 3 kids and one on the way. Good luck!!

Tallulah28 · 28/01/2023 20:35

Yes… I had one ovary removed during my first pregnancy due to a large dermoid cyst. I went on to conceive a further 4 children with absolutely no issues so the one I have left has certainly earned it’s keep 🙈

Cornishclio · 28/01/2023 20:41

I had one of my ovaries removed during my second pregnancy due to an ovarian cyst. We only planned to have two children anyway but I had regular periods after that so no indication I would have had an issue had we decided to have more. I believe that instead of one ovary releasing an egg one month and the other the next the remaining ovary takes over and releases an egg each month. That would work out because prior to the ovarectomy I used to get irregular periods every other month with a cycle going from 28 days to 36 days. After the ovary was removed I could predict my periods practically to the hour so obviously the one remaining one was regular and the other one unpredicatable.

I'm having that every other month short then longer cycle with the one ovary, it's so weird but it is very regular in the sense it's been like that for the last 10 months 😂 I'm still ovulating as far as I know as I've used the ovulation sticks, very odd

I had to have my left ovary removed due to a dermoid cyst. It was during my first C-section when dd1 was born and I was aged 33.

I was told my remaining ovary would pick up the slack and produce an egg every month instead of every 2 months. So insteaf of 50% chance of pregnancy, it would be more like 70%. But despite having a period every month, I don't think I did ovulate every month.

In the end, it took 5 months yo conceive dd2. It had only taken 1 month for dd1! I worked out I ovulate very early in my cycle, so dtd midcycle definitely wouldn't have worked for me.

Lengokengo · 30/01/2023 19:26

My mum lost an ovary after an ectopic pregnancy. Her doctor told her she would never have another child.

Then she had me.

I ovulate about day 11/12 according to the ovulation tests, I'm 14 cycles trying now 🤦🏻‍♀️
I'm CD 30 with no AF this month, 6 days late for me, but BFN, no idea what's going on 🙄
