Hi all,

Ive been TTC my first for 8 months following an ectopic pregnancy with no luck. Just had another unsuccessful month and feeling really motivated going into the New Year.

I’d love anyone’s tips for what has helped in the past/what you are doing to help you get pregnant.

Currently doing the following;

  • taking pregnacare pre conception (any tips for better prenatal vitamins?)
  • taking optibac for women (doctor recommended)
  • have had a HSG/blood testing done and all looks normal
  • tracking ovulation and hitting my fertile window (I have PCOS and a slightly irregular cycle so this is essential for me)

My doctor has prescribed me clomid but I am holding off on taking it - not sure why but will start in a month or two if nothing works!

I really liked the CB ovulation tracker sticks

Superstorefan123 · 27/12/2022 10:03

Thanks so much to all for the replies!

On prenatals- did anyone use pregnacare successfully? Thinking of switching and might try some of the combinations recommended here!

On stress - I honestly wouldn’t say tracking stressed me out (or that ive felt stressed particularly over the last few months) but point taken and may try a month off tracking to see what happens.

I've got pregnant twice (although the first time was a miscarriage).

Climaxing during sex i think is what worked for me.

Pregnacare is just a multivitamin. Generic ones contain the same for a fraction of the price.

Soft cup and preseed. Left soft cup in for 12 hours. Worked every time.

I use pregnacare and think it definitely helped me x

@justwantobeamum Glad it happened on holiday for you though, sounds like you had a great time :D

Sorry for your MMC loss too. They're really horrible :(

Can I ask though, what truth do you think is in 'just relax'? What do you think it was preventing pregnancy before? Tracking your cycle can't affect your biology, surely?

My MMC was in April and it took me seven months to get pregnant again. All of that time I was obsessing over it and doing everything I could to help myself and my husband. I didn't relax or forget about it but it still happened.

I think that sometimes with tracking ovulation especially with sticks you can end up DTD too late as once you get a positive OPK and the LH surge you’re basically already at ovulation and also the month I got pg on holiday I wasn’t due to ovulate until I was home and I got a positive pg test at 3 weeks and it was a good positive definitely not 7dpo so I ovulated early. If I had been tracking I would have probably just been starting to do opks and DTD and probably would have missed it. Obviously “just relax” isn’t scientific and there will be those who relax and don’t get pg and those who are tracking everything and still manage to get pg.

What you’re describing is using opks incorrectly. Ideally they are used to identify a pattern of ovulation and support you in dtd in the five days in advance of OV. Until I started using them I thought I ovulated day 14 whereas actually it was consistently day 20. No wonder I wasn’t getting pregnant, regardless of how relaxed I might be.

Nichelette · 27/12/2022 21:52

Tracking cervical mucus seemed to work for me. I had months and months of data in an app (and had been quite reliably on a 28 day cycle) but I'm pretty sure I ended up ovulating later with a 31 day cycle. My dating scan confirmed my thoughts.

Daisydreaming1 · 27/12/2022 21:56

Tracked my cycle using clear blue digital ovulation tests and the cheapie ovulation tests,
pom juice,
omega 3,
sex every day in the fertile window and 2 days after (just incase)
coQ10,
high dose vitamin D,
folate rather than folic acid,
acupuncture

Exactly this though. There’s not always a pattern of ovulation. Your luteul phase usually remains the same but ovulation isn’t necessarily the same every month. I mostly ovulated day 12-15 hence thinking it would be when I was home from holiday but actually that month it would have been much earlier

MrsCLogan · 27/12/2022 22:44

I highly recommend the FertiLILY (a conception cup, similar to the diva cup method) and conceive plus lube, they actually worked wonders for us! After many, many months we used this for one cycle and it worked! We literally only dtd one time during peak ovulation and I fell pregnant! I was sceptical and desperate but now I recommend to anyone ttc

good luck OP!

MrsCLogan · 27/12/2022 22:46

Oh and the clear blue ovulation tracker was a must- turns out my ovulation cycle wasn’t as regular as my menstrual cycle and it really helped us narrow down my peak ovulation.

user0786 · 28/12/2022 01:26

Hi everyone.

Quick question: What role does Vitamin D play in fertility? I've always been deficient. Why does that matter when TTC?

Thanks

mackthepony · 28/12/2022 01:40

I lost weight ( weighed ten stone when I conceived)

Ate really healthy

Little caffeine or alcohol

Tracked ovulation

I think I did the legs in the air thing afterwards too

Jas5mum · 28/12/2022 01:47

We did sex every other day from when period stops. Last baby we got pregnant straight away but with our 4th it took forever!! We had a deadline because we were getting married april 2018 and I wanted to breastfeed for a year so march 2017 was the latest. Can't remember exactly now but think we started ttc sept 2015 when DS was 1 as we wanted a 18m to 2.5yr gap. In the end we used conceive plus gel to get pregnant. Had DD3 in jan 2017. Good luck x

rafanadalsarms · 28/12/2022 02:06

I have PCOS. I didn't use contraception for years. The 2 times I got pregnant I was drinking a shit ton of water for my skin (like 2+ litres per day) and was a low weight. Once on honeymoon and then 2 years later. It might be a coincidence but I swear this was the reason.

Olivetreebutter · 28/12/2022 08:26

Apparently, alcohol and rare meat 😏been TTC for 6 months, barely drank a glass on that time and rarely eat red meat. Decided I'd enjoy Christmas given lack of success so far. Haven't got trollied, but a couple of glasses each night etc plus had rare steak multiple times. Just got my BFP 😂Woops! Now trying to work out how to turn down booze when I've been drinking happily thus far (don't want to tell family yet).

Superstorefan123 · 28/12/2022 08:36

Lots of good advice on this thread I’ll be following. Thanks to those who talked about relaxing in a constructive way - I might take a month off tracking this month.

In the nicest way, those saying alcohol and holidays are what got them pregnant - it is a bit insensitive on a thread of people clearly desperate for pregnancy. To be clear, I was relaxed, drank until I got a positive and was on holiday when I lost my first baby so it’s just luck if it worked for you.

TheBirdintheCave · 28/12/2022 08:44

@justwantobeamum Ah I see. For me I have long cycles and can ovulate anywhere between days 16 and 21. OPKs never worked for me (I think cos I have PCO) so I went by tracking CM and ovulation pains instead (which were very reliable). I also added temping in the end which was really interesting as I watched it go up and down.

Adelais · 28/12/2022 08:51

Serrapeptase worked for me twice the first month using it. It’s cheap to buy off Amazon.

Manifestingbaby · 28/12/2022 08:58

@Superstorefan123 the responses to threads like this can be so tone deaf 🤦‍♀️ I've no advice as I've not been successful but just I hear you, block out the relax brigade. Hope it happens for you soon and sorry for your loss x

whatwasthatt · 28/12/2022 09:06

I'm going to be taking on board some of these comments, too! Sorry you're also struggling, OP. Me and DH have been TTC for 3 years now. The heartbreak every month is just shattering.

Bobshhh · 28/12/2022 09:17

There's some useful advice here (7 months ttc after a miscarriage for my first ever pregnancy. Jan I think will be cutting down on caffeine and booze month.

But everyone suggesting relax might as well just say, oh don't be stressed. Like it's something simple to turn off.
