Likelihood of accidentally getting pregnant from this?

So I'm on the combined pill and have been for a few months now.

I was visiting family with my bf over the weekend and spent Friday and Saturday getting very drunk and staying up until 5am both nights. I had unprotected sex leading up to, and including, Friday and Saturday.

Now I usually take my pill just before bed so, as you can probably imagine, I ended up forgetting to take it on those days. When I realised on Sunday I didn't take either Friday or Saturday's pill, I just took Sunday's and made a mental note to keep an eye on things just in case.

The two pills I missed were in the last week of my pack, I believe I had about 4 days left until I was meant to take a break. I don't usually take breaks (once every 3 months, any longer and I start getting breakthrough bleeding mid-pack), but this month does happen to be break month.

I've now encountered some unfortunate circumstances; I have left the rest of my pills at my bf's house and neither of us are able to go get them for a number of days, I don't have any more pill packets to hand, and I am unable to get anymore until I have an appointment with a doctor (recently moved, no current GP and impossible to go to a walk-in clinic).

All this to say, I missed 2 days of my pill, took 2 days as normal, and am now effectively taking my 7 day break 2 days early as I can't get ahold of any more at this moment. I have also been having very regular, unprotected sex consistently throughout this whole chain of events.

I wouldn't consider myself super fertile (have missed loads of pills in past years and never gotten pregnant, plus I have suspected PCOS) but I'm worried that having this break so soon after missing 2 pills in a row and potentially not having any to start taking come the end of my break may stir my ovaries into unwanted action.

Anybody got any advice they can give me?

You’ve heard of abstinence? That’s your best bet.

ahunf · 15/11/2022 15:07

Could you not get the morning after pill at boots sat and sun? Sorry if you've mentioned this I have the flu and I'm a bit delirious.

I did consider this but was hoping to avoid the map, the hormones do weird things to my body

How long after can you take the morning after pill is it days or hours? I've not taken it for 13 years.

CorporateBull · 15/11/2022 15:19

Pregnancy would do even weirder things to your body. I'd take it if I were you. Especially if you don't ovulate regularly, which must be more likely with PCOS?

Sagittarius25 · 15/11/2022 15:23

NHS has a whole page on this www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/miss-combined-pill/

You should have taken Saturday's and sunday's pills together when you remembered on sunday and left Fridays. You also should then used additional contraception for 7 days from missing the pill. It also says if you miss 2 or more pills in the last 7 days of the pack, you should skip the break and carry onto the next pack (which you said you haven't been able to do due to not having pills). You need to be using alternative contraception now and keeping an eye on things/potential pregnancy test in a couple of weeks from missing pills.

You can take it up to 5 days after unprotected sex, so I could theoretically take it today and be covered from Friday-today but that's only if I haven't already ovulated. Will definitely consider it, idk when would be the best time to take it though, I heard you can only take it once in one cycle so I'd need to time it correctly

You must be fun at parties.

It’s a lot more fun than an unplanned, unwanted pregnancy, and the 18 year + commitment that requires.

You’re presumably a grown up. Sometimes the right thing to do isn’t the fun thing. Carrying on with your metaphorical fingers in your metaphorical ears isn’t reliable contraception.

That's true I guess! I don't ovulate at all on the pill and prior to being on it my cycles would usually last 2 months or so so ovulation wasn't particularly common for me... I figured it would be difficult for my body to begin the process of ovulation in such a short time and by that time I'd be back on the pill again so no harm no foul. Will be looking into the map tonight

@hereforthefood you're welcome. But please either learn what you need to do with pills/additional contraception if it happens again or just remember to google what you need to do immediately when you know you've missed one. Also as someone who used the pill for 11 years, I very much recommend a daily alarm on your phone as a reminder, even if it's just a silent vibrate alarm.

Bravedays · 15/11/2022 15:35

Why did you continue having unprotected sex?

Advising abstinence to someone who is clearly already having regular sex isn't exactly good advice, so I elected to ignore it. Abstinence, for me, is neither "the right thing to do", nor "a lot more fun" than pregnancy.

I actually wouldn't mind being pregnant, but I'm not in the right position for that yet, however if it did end up that way then I wouldn't be mad about it at all.

So let me offer you some advice, if you're obviously just trying to push your own agenda and shame someone who is simply seeking help from women who may have already been in this situation, try telling yourself that they don't care, close your screen, and go take a walk outside.

Yeah tbf, this was not my finest moment... I'll try setting an alarm but this is actually a rare occurrence as they're usually right next to my contact lenses case so I always remember to take them when I take out my contacts! Just an unfortunate circumstance all round

You can order the pill online, its part of the nhs.

sh24.org.uk/contraception#taken_daily

I've ordered mine from when I also wasn't registered with a gp due to moving house. I know that that is not the answer to your question but it might helpful.

Bravedays · 15/11/2022 15:35

I figured missing 2 days wasn't the end of the world, I've done it before and not had an issue, I'm only concerned bc I left my pill packet at home which is essentially forcing an even longer break I wasn't prepared for

It really just depends on if you ovulated during the time of the missed pills. It's unlikely, but not impossible. How long between taking the last pill, before you forgot the two, and then taking the next one? If more than 48hrs passed between the pills, chances of ovulation will have been alot higher. Remembering sperm can survive for up to 5 days too. If the pregnancy is definitely unwanted, I would suggest the morning after pill, although if you've already ovulated, then it would be pretty pointless anyway. Remember, the pill also thickens the mucus in the womb, and thins the lining to make pregnancy harder. Its probably unlikely to have resulted in pregnancy, but alot of women do report becoming pregnant on the pill, so obviously it does and can happen. Good luck op.

Appreciate the link but they don't deliver to Manchester! Have tried using them last time I ran out and couldn't get a doc appointment, bit unfortunate really as that seems like a really useful service

Do you secretly hope to be pregnant?

Because the obvious answer for someone trying to avoid pregnancy would be to leg it to the shop to get the morning after pill and resolve to never, ever be so slack with contraception again.

Yeah it doesn't seem likely to result in a pregnancy, and if I bleed during this break then I'll know I'm fine, was hoping someone on here had some mad medical knowledge that would put my mind to rest, although most people have been very helpful so far!

I took the thursday pill in the evening, around 10pm. I took Sunday's around midday when I was packing up from my parents and realised I'd forgotten to take the other two so it was definitely more than 48 hours. I'm hoping it'll result in nothing at all but I've had fairly constant, really low down cramps for the better part of the day which prompted me to make this post in the first place

No agenda here! that’s a very big stretch from a single comment. I’ve been in a position where I’ve had to take the MAP myself, and I volunteer at a charity where I help women access contraception, GUM and advice.

But you sounded like someone who understands how babies are made, and is using contraception (so not wanting to be pregnant) and yet still wants to carry on having unprotected sex, rather than do something about sorting some more contraception, or not having sex until you could, AND at the same time not getting pregnant. Which isn’t really possible.

PlainOldMe80 · 15/11/2022 15:50

jfc this isn't the mini pill where you can get pregnant from taking it 2 hours late! The combined pill has much more leeway, I've literally missed 3 pills in a row before and not got pregnant! I really wasn't worried in the slightest about it until I left my packet at home and am now forced into taking a longer break!

Idk when everyone got so judgy on this website but I'm quite surprised. I would've assumed that women from all walks of life would know that shit happens occasionally and there's no point judging bc literally anyone can make a mistake like this.
