21 weeks pregnant. Haven't felt any movement

Hi ladies,

Just the title really. I'm 21 weeks pregnant on Tuesday qnd I have felt no movement at all. I feel like I get the odd bubbles occasionally and what not but certainly no movement. Shouldn't I have felt movement by now? Its my first pregnancy, I have a posterior low placenta.

I did ask midwife, and she said it was normal for some women not to get movement till up to 24 weeks, but I just feel like it should have happened by now.

Any insight please? Thanks xxx

What insight do you want?

Its perfectly normal to feel nothing until 24 weeks for a first pregnancy

If you’re not going to trust your midwife’s professional opinion what can us on MN do?

FirstTimeTryer93 · 06/11/2022 21:16

People who have had similar experience 🙄

I was post 24 weeks with my son before I felt movement. I actually thought they'd made a mistake and I wasn't actually pregnant for a while 😂

Cakeandcoffee93 · 06/11/2022 21:24

I felt a tap at 19 weeks- then properly at 22
i think, if placenta is infront tho baby could be bouncing it and you would not feel movements as much.

The fact it’s very normal to feel nothing until 24 weeks seems to be lost on you.

you’re going to be in for a tough ride if you value the input from randoms on the internet more than your qualified midwife

Why so curt? She's asking for reassurance from other people who've had a similar experience. That seems to be lost on you. Currently wondering the same thing myself and was pleased to find this thread as will others in the future I'm sure.

I don’t think the OP needs anyone being harsh to her. It’s her first pregnancy and she’s worried. Yes she should trust her midwife but sometimes it helps hearing other people having had the same experience. I know that feeling OP. I can’t remember exactly when I felt my daughter properly move but I know it was after my 20 week scan and I was constantly worried as she didn’t seem to move much right up until the end but my placenta was at the front hiding a lot and she was absolutely fine. Honestly don’t worry yet but it is important to keep an eye on the movements and always constant your midwife if you’re worried

allgoodthings84 · 06/11/2022 21:35

*contact your midwife that meant

@LargeHadronCollidHER are you on mumsnet to give people a tough time? Jeez leave the thread.

Thank you ladies, yes was just looking for reassurance more than anything else. I thought I felt a tap a few days ago, but have had nothing since 🙃 it's nice to hear I'm not the only one to be worried after 20 weeks. Hopefully I can feel her wriggling around soon x

I had the odd very faint flutter but nothing definite or properly reassuring until 22 weeks.

catlady1234 · 06/11/2022 21:40

I remember having similar concerns. I think it's hard with your first to know what you are meant to be feeling.

I think the midwife said the same to me and at 24 weeks exactly I felt the baby move.
When you feel the baby you will 100% know and it feels lovely 🥰 x

It's perfectly normal for first time mums to feel a bit worried and anxious and want to hear other women's experiences. Why are you so rude to a woman who needs a bit of reassurance?
Op I'm sure your little one is just still tiny and probably floating around having a ball and you just can't feel it yet. I believe I was 23 weeks with my first and I was always unsure if it was my stomach bubbling or baby kicking 🤣

Bizzyone · 06/11/2022 21:42

I was the same and was more worried by everyone telling me "oh you cant mistake it"..

Felt a couple of vague taps at 21wks maybe but wasnt til few weeks after that, that I felt actual movements, and I think it was about 27 or 28 weeks that I was getting them every day!

CSR721 · 06/11/2022 21:43

Only bubbles/flutters at that point for me. Then from about 24 weeks had slightly more flutters but still inconsistent (anterior placenta meant I didn't always feel him) and then consistent daily movement from 28w x

Wow! You're a barrel of laughs aren't you? Bad day? Why the need to be so cheeky?

Donepaying · 06/11/2022 21:45

@LargeHadronCollidHER there's a massive difference between offering reassurance and being an arse

FirstTimeTryer93 · 06/11/2022 21:45

Thank you ladies, your responses are so helpful and have made me feel less crazy for worrying 🥰 xx

wishuponastar1988 · 06/11/2022 21:45

I didn't feel much until much later, the odd flutter here and there but no defined movement until around 25 weeks. They are still very tiny at 20 weeks so will be tucked away! It's a very stressful time though, I was constantly worried about movement but you will get to know your baby's pattern when movement feels more obvious

bananaorange00 · 06/11/2022 21:48

Also, I went in at 25 weeks as I had been feeling some movement and flutters for a couple of weeks then one day I didn't feel him all day. When I was checked the midwife said even at 25 weeks movement can be quite sporadic and faint and they can move around and face your placenta so they could be kicking that and you wouldn't feel it x

luciaann · 06/11/2022 21:48

@LargeHadronCollidHER Jesus lighten up would you. Absolutely no need for your unhelpful comments.

OP I had an anterior placenta and didn't feel anything till about 24 weeks x
