Anybody over 35 and ttc

Hiya
Just wondering if there is anyone on here who is over 35 and ttc.

I am 37 and have been ttc for 4 cycles now.
I am getting paranoid that it won,t happen because of my age.

Is there anybody likewise who feels like me or who can give me some encouragement.

Loads of us! I'm 40 and ttc - already have a ds (4) who took us 18 months to conceive. I miscarried 2 years ago, and we've only just been trying again properly quite recently.

donbean · 23/01/2008 11:10

me too am 38 this year, already got ds (4) took 2 years to concieve, 2 mcs then ds.
trying for number 2, not very hard tho. im not registering cycles or any thing like that. been trying for about 4 months.
im on folic acid.
if it happens it happens, if not then thats that for me.
im lucky to have my boy.
will only get worried if nothing happens in the next year or so tbh.

goodfornothing · 23/01/2008 11:20

Hi
donbean

I am not doing any of the charting or temping or using opk.

I have decided that they probably make the whole business more stressful.
I am just keeping track of my cycle length so I know when to test if I need to.

I feel quite desperate at times as I am not sure if I could accept it if it doesn't happen.

I'm 35 and ttc my first, had a mc last September with unplanned (but happy) pregnancy. This is our 4th cycle of trying.

Maenad · 23/01/2008 11:37

Relax, 4 cycles is nothing. It took me about 9 months to get pg first time and I got a bit panicky. Then had a mc. Got really panicky. Then got pg next cycle with DD. Am now ttc again and much more relaxed this time though am now 36. A friend (aged 36) was trying for 18 months and has just told me she is pg. Don't worry. Just have lots of sex. Lots and lots. Both times I got pg were when I was having sex every other day. Any less than that and it just didn't seem to work despite (or perhaps because of?) neurotic temperature taking etc etc.

Hello Goodfornothing. There are tons of us here! I'm 36 TTC # 2. Got pregnant with DD v. quickly but was 33 then. Just trying what the others say - lots of sex and no temping/OPK as I think it adds to the stress. On third cycle now and trying to stay calm. My understanding was that age in itself is not necessarily a problem, its more that if there is another problem age compounds it. When I get low I think of Mariella Frostrup! Two in her 40s.

affinia · 23/01/2008 13:21

Hi - I got BFP yesterday. Am 37 on cycle 7 but even when younger alot of my friends took that long. I was panicing just like you until yesterday as my cycles got longer and longer. Lots of my friends have similar success stories but I know how paranoid you become so you need to hear as much positivity as possible!

Did do OPK's but they weren't that great for me - this month think they were showing positive for me after I think I concieved! My tip would be have more sex than you might want (it can ebcome pretty tiresome) and also for longer than you think you need to - so don't try and 'hit' the time too much as you might be just miss an early and late ov.

Good luck!

beaniesteve · 23/01/2008 18:28

me

am 38 this year also and been trying since October (for my first). Came off the mini-pill and had a period as usual but the last couple have been a bit haywire.

am booked in for swabs at the drs tomorrow as I have been feeling some discomfort and stuff.

pepperrabbit · 23/01/2008 20:01

Me too!
TTC #3 (sheer madness) Ds1 @ 35, DS2 @ 37, as I'm a symmetrical sort of girl, I'm kind of hoping for DS3/DD1 @ 39....
Cycle 3 at the mo, and the bonking more than you want to is good advice I suspect.
As others of said, many of my friends have taken up to and over 12 months to conceive, but everyone has got there in the end.

SydneyB · 24/01/2008 10:55

Hello ladies, well I can't quite believe it but got a BFP this morning! AF due today/tomorrow but I had pink/brown discharge earlier in week and the line was faint so trying not to get excited.

McDreamy · 24/01/2008 11:01

Me too! Trying to conceive no 3 at 36 (37 next month). I became pregnant with DD straight away, DS took 5 months and we are on month 9 with this one! AF due tomorrow!

McDreamy · 24/01/2008 11:01

Congratulations Sydney, that's fantastic news

pepperrabbit · 26/01/2008 10:22

Any news McDreamy?
DS1 took a couple of months, DS2 was instant! So I'm a bit unused to be in cycle 3 this time, I guess you always expect it to be the same.

Tapster · 27/01/2008 19:16

DD1 first month at age 35 about to start ttcing no.2 at age 37 - I'm very excited except we are missing March out as we have too many Christmas babies in our family!

missnevermind · 27/01/2008 19:46

Hi all I am TTC my 3rd. My boys are 7 and 9 1/2 and I will be 37 in a couple of months.
AF arrived yesterday.
This will be my 7th cycle since having implanon removed.

scully · 28/01/2008 07:38

Hiya, I am also trying to conceive no.3, I'm 37. dd1 is 5.5 and dd2 is 2. Had a m/c in Aug last year, at 12wks, so would love to be pregnant before that due date, which would have been late Feb, so only one more cycle for that to be possible.
dd1 was conceived 1st month of trying, dd2 in the 4th month, and the baby we lost also took around 4 attempts as well. So I was very disappointed when af arrived this morning, but as this was the first proper month of trying since the m/c I knew the odds were that it probably wouldn't work.
I use opk's and keep track of my cycle but that's all, would be useless at temps, charting etc. It's enough just to manage to bd more than once in a week
Know what you mean about Xmas babies Tapster, dd2 is a Xmas day baby (due on 17th, arrived 8 days late) so I think we will also skip March

Hi Goodfornothing! I'm 36 and TTC for the first time also ... it's been 4 cycles for me too although I've just started using an ovulation predictor and am thinking about starting to temp. Even though I haven't had a BFP yet, I like the predictor as it at least tells me there's something good going on and there's the hope of conceiving that month. I'm thinking of starting to temp also ... just so I'm more informed during the 2ww and don't build my hopes up so much when I get premenstrual cramps that I'm convinced are implantation cramps. Everyone's right - we need to stay positive and it will happen for us!! I'm on CD3 now and hoping for an exciting February.

beaniesteve · 01/02/2008 16:43

Am thinking of getting into ovulation sticks. Nothing happening for me and I am not even sure I am ovulating though I am getting my period.

siurana · 01/02/2008 20:37

Hi All

I've been watching the chatrooms for a while and living in denial a little about this baby making business.

TTC for 2 months (I know not exactly a marathon) but have not been using contraception for a while so maybe a bit longer.

I'm in EWCM mode at the moment and so have been at it with DH like mad this week even though I am off sick with the fle (ugh!)

Was watching "This Morning" I think it was wednesday or thursday and they had Lord Winston on and he said some very interesting things and I thought it might help to share....

That sperm survive 5-6 days in the correct environment (get using that pre - seed!) and therefore if you have sex 3 times a week every week then there will always been some little guys there when there need to be and also that the Ov kits tell you a bit late when to have sex. He also said that women can ovulate at any time not always as you;d expect around EWCM.

I dont know if this is of any help to anyone but it definitely made me feel less anxious about that specific time although obviously difficult to ignore Ov signs.

I'm sorry this is a bit wordy - first ever post will pick up shorthand eventually.

Anyone any tips for first time tryer?

p.s. I;m 36 so know i might have a few months/years to go

sophiewd · 01/02/2008 20:44

Goodfornothing - got pregnant at 36 after 6 months of trying with DD, just checked when I was ovulating had a couple of goes over that time and fell pregnant first month of trying, if you have some idea when you do ovulate then may be a bit less stressful?

siurana · 01/02/2008 20:50

Hi Sophiewd -

really nice to hear from someone who got preg at my age...

Did you use an OPK or did you just check EWCM? thats all ive been doing at the moment.

Was DD your first? Did you get any negativity from people about your age?

I got married at 32 and i;ve had hassle from some family since the day we got married but wanted to wait, - we wanted to buy a house and feel settled but some family thought we were crazy - reassuring to hear that 6 months is possible.

sophiewd · 01/02/2008 21:12

DD was first, next one due in June and will be 38 later this month. No negativity whatsoever (my Aunt had her last at 44) wasn't ready before, met DH when I was 32. I dind't use OPK, I googled pregnancy cycle or predictor and typed in how long my cycle was and then took it from there.

sophiewd · 01/02/2008 21:13

Sorry first message abit ambiguous now on 2nd pregnancy which was pregnant on first month of trying and that happend at 37

Mags143 · 01/02/2008 21:15

We are ttc#2, took us 11 years with dd and i was almost 36 when she was born. Had fertility treatment etc but stopped all that in 2000, but dd was conceived naturally and hoping for the same this time. I'll be 38 this year and dh will be 40, so time is running out i think.....
