TTC and covid positive

JB2021 · 16/04/2022 23:34

TTC and cycle 3 but already getting disheartened each time AF appears. Ordered ovulation tests and resting ahead of possible ovulation next weekend (according to apps).

However, today is Saturday and Husband has just tested positive for covid, feels like it's a cold atm. I have tested negative. Unsure if we should still DTD.

Conscious next month he's away when I'm due to ovulate.

Found lots online about vaccinations and conceiving but not DTD whilst one person is positive

There’s been a few threads on here and essentially the only risk when DTD is the risk that the positive partner might pass it to the negative partner. There is absolutely nothing in the research to indicate any risk whatsoever apart from that. I believe previous threads have recommended doggy style or woman on top in order to minimise close contact! Have fun Wink

Thank you! I couldnt find anything but would hate to put any risk to a potential baby.

Hoping I stay negative and his positive clears soon.

I had covid last month right when I was ovulating. Was gutted to have missed that month but my partner was self isolating from me ! I was pretty much shut in one room for 7days !!

Pheepa · 17/04/2022 22:12

I have been Covid positive this week, think I am ovulating today which is the same time wise as previous months. Not opk testing this month but EWCM and one sided pain would suggest I’m ovulating today, CD13. We DTD Weds, Fri, Sat and will be tonight. So far so good in terms of hubby staying negative. We’re both triple jabbed, I caught it from unvaccinated 9 year old. Google seemed to suggest I was less likely to pass it on with being fully vaccinated so we decided to risk it as didn’t want to waste the month! Hubby has had it before though back in 2020. I’ve had v mild symptoms, not sure how I’d have felt if had felt ill. Good luck!

JB2021 · 17/04/2022 22:23

@Pheepa thanks. It's him who is positive, I'm negative (so far). We'd said this month, give it our best shot and track ovulation etc. Just feel like it's sth else against us!

He has got worse do not sure he'll feel like DTD anytime soon now anyway :(

Dh has been COVID positive since at least last Tuesday. We've still DTD. I'm testing negative despite sharing a bed etc all week.

JB2021 · 18/04/2022 14:08

@HedgehogToes does he feel bad with it? OH just feel like he's got hay-fever!

Concerned about me testing positive as we have a wedding to go to next weekend

JB2021 To be fair to him, he felt like shit and had a really bad chest, but the mere suggestion of a jump and he's all in Grin which is a bonus I'm thankful for as we've been TTC for nearly three years now!

JB2021 · 22/04/2022 21:14

@HedgehogToes are you still negative? I felt awful Tuesday, when I was negative. Now I've just got a cold a dam test g positive. OH is negative now though. Hoping got a quick negative for me as ovulation this weekend

Been dtd every other day or more and I'm negative still. Entirely possible I had it first and was asymptomatic though. I'm not routinely testing anymore.

Fingers crossed for you that you don't feel too rotten! Bet this is your month now 😂

I feel fine, just a cold. Was worse Tuesday when negative. OH negative now and away with work till Sunday. For first time I've used ovulation tests. Day 3 today and doesn't seem positive. App says tomorrow for ovulation. How soon do propel ovulation before AF?

I've got a long/unpredictable cycle, so I usually start testing a few days after the end of my period and keep testing until I've had a positive and then they go negative again.

You usually ovulate about 14 days before the end of your cycle, so if you have a 28 day cycle, it's 14 etc, but it's not an exact science. I have a 35-42 ish day cycle and usually get a positive OPK around day 21-25.

I used to test first thing with FMU, and then at about 2pm. LH (luteal hormone) is generally released from midday) and indicates that your body is preparing to ovulate in the next 12-24 hours or so. Hold your urine for about 3-4 hours before an afternoon test so you get a more accurate result. The test line had to be as dark or darker than the control line, it can take about 15-30 minutes for it to develop properly. (That's if you're using the one step/easy at home cheapie OPKs, which I'd recommend). They're not the same as pregnancy tests in that you have to discard them after five minutes.

It's good to have sperm waiting for the egg so just DTD every other day throughout your cycle is recommended. You might want to have a look at SMEP plan. It takes some of the pressure off because there's always sperm waiting on the off chance there's an egg 😂

Good luck x

@HedgehogToes whst do you think.....

These are the strips for the last few days. Done them around 5pm, as soon as I finish work. Although I WFH most of the time, I'm not always able to test at same time so 5pm after work is best. Can't see the line getting stronger :(

The clumped up 3 are the oldest, with oldest at the top. The one seperate is todays

OH away until tomorrow night:( then all next month. I'm still testing positive but feel fine, bit blocked up in a morning but that's all

Your bottom one looks close, top three definitely negative. What cycle day are you on? Test first thing in the morning too. It's not "recommended" but I've always had a positive first thing if I'm about to ovulate.

Pics for example, Test on its own is positive, that was taken at about 7am. Confirmation test with two on is from about 11am.

HedgehogToes · 23/04/2022 20:58

*are your cycles

JB2021 · 23/04/2022 21:00

Think 28 days, came off pill at Christmas so all very recent.

OH negative, I'm positive but fine (bar a stuffy nose) do we try or not, trying to research online.

OP posts:
HedgehogToes · 23/04/2022 21:27

Honestly, I'd just keep trying if you feel fine. I've been TTC for nearly three years (so the entirety of the pandemic basically) and I know of quite a few isolation babies conceived!

It can take a while for your cycles to settle after you come off the pill.

SMEP plan sounds like it might be something for you to think about. I'd recommend it, it's "worked" for me four times in getting a bfp.

JB2021 · 23/04/2022 21:31

Thanks. I feel OK, I know it can take a while and know time isn't on my side at 36 but I'm just concerned if I were to conceive while positive would I harm a baby due to covid.

Was more upset about this when OH tested positive last week, esp knowing he's away next month

OP posts:
HedgehogToes · 23/04/2022 21:52

Honestly, and I say this from experience. The odds of you having a perfectly healthy baby are entirely in your favour. COVID is highly unlikely to harm a developing foetus. I've lost two very ill babies in the last 18m so am very much in the baby loss/pregnancy loss community and have only heard of COVID affecting women and babies later in pregnancy.

As long as your taking a prenatal vitamin and are generally in order with your cycles, you're most likely golden. The wait to catch the bfp is awful though I know.

JB2021 · 23/04/2022 22:04

Thank you. We both feel fine. I am taking folic acid (need to just remember!). Otherwise both healthy. I'm just sligtjly concerned on my age but trying not to think about it too much.

Will do ovulation test tomorrow lunch and tea time. Trying to get OH view on DTD while I am positive, been sleeping in seperate rooms since he tested positive

OP posts:
JB2021 · 25/04/2022 12:38

Sunday morning def positive on ovulation test, Sunday tea time, no second line at all. Assuming I may have missed ovulation then or is it 24 to 36 hours from the positive, in which case its DTD and fingers crossed!

OP posts:
HedgehogToes · 25/04/2022 13:33

Give it a go.

I have always understood it as a positive on an OPK means you're having a surge in luteal hormone in the 12-36 hours prior to ovulation.

So if i had a positive ovulation test Sunday, my aim would be every other day in the week leading up, the day of the positive , the day after, miss a day, and then dtd again if possible.

So dtd can't do any harm. You only need one sperm after all .

JB2021 · 04/05/2022 23:02

Do One Step ovulation tests show a positive line in the lead up to AF due if you're pregnant?
