Question for those who came OFF THE PILL to TCC ...

After you finished your last packet and had you withdrawal bleed how long was it until your first 'real' period?

And do you think there is any point in TTC this month for us as I will have no idea when I OV!

And also how long did it take for your cycles to settle down again?

Or has anyone got PG soon after finishing the pill?

Sorry for all the questions I am just finding the whole thing a bit frustrating that I cant 'plan anything' for now!

yes we did b, an ive done a test which is neg.dont really know whats going on. dont have any symptoms like i had when having dd.

SazzaK · 07/01/2008 12:25

You can tell if you ov from OPK and temps - although it is my first month off the pill I know I ov'd on CD17 thanks to fertility friend. Before I went straight back to 2 normal cycles of 29 days before then fell pg, but had a thing about getting the pill out of my system first - actually there is no evidence that this is necessary and like someone else mentioned you can benefit from "rebound fertility" when you are first off - so I say go for it!

freddiesyummymummy · 07/01/2008 13:30

Hi I charted last time and my first cycle was 21 days - I ovulated about 10 days after coming off the pill (before any bleeding - so you could get pregnant within days....I didn't get any withdrawal bleeding....

Took 3 months TTC DS1, and was probably only quick as I knew when I was OV.

If you really want to know whats going on with your cycle you just take your temperature every morning (if you're the forgetful type this isn't for you!) try www.tcoyf.com

Same has happened this time ttc#2 I am now on CD6 - no bleeding but think I'm about to OV - so time to BD lots will know in a few days!

When I came off pill first 2 times I had a normal period after 5 weeks then fell pregnant next month. This time got it into my head it was going to take ages so started trying straightaway. Got some cheap ovulation tests to keep an eye on things and got a positive 3 weeks after I'd taken my last pill. Got a bfp about a week and a half after that! Due in 5 weeks and still can't believe it!

Dazy · 07/01/2008 20:34

I read somewhere at the weekend (can't remeber where I'm afraid) that you are much more likely to get pregnant in the first few months after coming of the pill than thereafter. So you should just go for it straight away rather then waiting.

Incidentally, I twice got pregnant 2 months after coming of pill so it worked for me!

Good luck to you all.

The pill was developed to help people with fertility problems (it wasn't intended as a contraceptive - that is the "side effect" a bit like Viagra - that was intended as a heart medication - it just had certain, more profitable, side effects grin).
You should get a higher probability of conceiving just after coming off the pill than on subsequent months.

from www.fertilityexpert.co.uk

"Some research even suggests that, rather than harming your fertility, taking the pill could even boost it. A study carried out as part of the ALSPAC study of Children of the 90s, by researchers from Brunel and Bristol universities, looked at the experiences of 8,497 women. They analysed a wide range of factors, including the health and lifestyles of the women and looked at how long it took them to conceive. The results showed that those who?d taken the pill for a prolonged period of over five years were less likely to suffer a delay in getting pregnant when they stopped the pill. In fact, 75.4%conceived within six months, compared to 70.5% of people who?d never been on the pill."

Hi, further to my earlier posts just wanted to say that I got a BFP yesterday - my first month off the pill. Hoe you do too, good luck!

fruitloop79 · 11/01/2008 13:41

congratulations sazza . Gives us gives us a lot of encouragement to know it can happen after being on pill.

Does anyone know what's the longest you should TTC after the pill? It's been 5 months for me now. I'm well aware this is nothing in TTC terms but I dont wanna be waiting too much longer. I do have a scan coming up to check for PCOS but if that comes back clear and it's just the pill leaving my system then I don't wanna be waiting for ever! I was once told it can take 2.5years! No way! I'll go stir crazy after that amount of time! If I'd known that I wouldnt have taken it in the first place. Most of my mates have fallen pg in first couple months which makes me feel very (deep down).
I was kind of hoping I too would be saying "oh, I didn't expect it to happen so soon!" [grrrrrrrr]

melpomene · 11/01/2008 13:46

dd1: came off pill and got pg straight away

dd2: came off mini-pill, had one real period, then got pg in 2nd cycle.

Good luck!

fruitloop79 · 12/01/2008 23:22

I'm assuming you're a very fertile lady melpomene

Took me forever to figure out why I wasn't getting pregnant when my cycle was on average 29 days. Turned out that after buying some ov tests online and checking my CM every day, I ovulate VERY late ie. get my period only 7 days afterwards. SO I had to forget all this ovulation around day 14 business and concentrate on my own body. And...bingo! Don't go by statistics, just monitor every change in your body and you should find a pattern emerging.
