Hi all! I just finished what I thought was my period and might have been. It started Friday and gradually got pretty heavy for a few days. However, the past couple of days I have been having heartburn and an endless appetite. I have also been so so fatigued. I took a pregnancy test because my symptoms were so close to how I felt when I was pregnant with DS. I am attaching the test. I clearly see a line and it showed up within the time frame and now I am just a worried mess. Any advice? Tried to call the doctor, but they are currently closed.

I'd retest with FMU tomorrow...with a FRER if you can get one. Good luck

Mamabear2221 · 06/01/2022 23:59

I had FRERs on hand and took one after a 2.5 hour hold. Very clearly positive, but I am confused about the bleeding.

Are you worried because it's positive or worried because of the bleeding? Sorry if this isn't a happy post :( all I can think is that your bleeding was implantation. Was it for as long or as heavy as a period? This can happen between 6-12 days after ovulation. Some women only spot and some bleed heavy for a few days, think everyone is different. You could test again in a couple of days and see if it's darker, just to ease your worries

FlyOnTheWall89 · 07/01/2022 06:24

@Mamabear2221 congratulations. Could the bleeding be a small clot - I'm on another thread with a lady who had the same. She had her period ... or what she thought was one and then found out she was pregnant and got a 3+ on a digi. She went to be scanned and it was a clot but baby was fine. X

Roopers · 07/01/2022 08:29

It could be implantation bleeding. I had it with all my pregnancies and my doctor says it's v common.

Congratulations!

Same thing happened to me in the past. I had a very normal if not slightly heavier AF and then BFP days after it finished because I was feeling a bit off. I got positive tests for a week after, informed my GP who wasn't worried, and suspected an unusually heavy implantation bleed. I did end up going into the EPU when I started getting left sided discomfort and bleeding as I was worried about ectopic on the recommendation of some lovely Mumsnetters. It wasn't ectopic and ended up sadly being a miscarriage. I have been wracking my brains as to how AF could have been be so normal but after reading another thread on Mumsnet, I concluded that not properly implanting might have been the case with me. Although a clear line, it never got very dark for my DPO. Tests showed negative pretty much as soon as I had the bleed. Good luck speaking to your GP and sorry mine wasn't a positive story, I hope that yours works out differently. 🤞🏻

Mamabear2221 · 07/01/2022 13:32

Thank you all for your replies. I am hoping that it is just some fluke and that it sticks! My period was very normal.. I bled through several super tampons (sorry, might be tmi). However, I took a test the day that I got my period before I knew it was arriving and it was negative. I took another test this morning and it doesn’t appear much darker than the one I took yesterday. I will be calling my doctor when they open and will let you know what they say. I’m attaching a picture of the test from this morning.

Although it's rare, some women do experience "normal" periods in pregnancy, more likely the first 3 months.

GingerbreadTM · 07/01/2022 21:43

@Mamabear2221 please keep us posted 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 you've got a sticky bean 💚xx

Mamabear2221 · 08/01/2022 00:40

I went to the dr and everything was inconclusive. There was nothing on the ultrasound, so it’s possible I am just too early to see anything. The pregnancy test was pretty faint, so I had my blood drawn to check HCG and progesterone and will get those results back on Monday. I will update when I find out and if I take any more tests!

I took another test this morning. Let me know what you think! Hopefully my blood results tomorrow will bring some clarity.

It definitely looks darker @Mamabear2221 , which never happened with my tests! Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻

Mamabear2221 · 09/01/2022 14:30

@LondonladyTTC if you don’t mind me asking, what was the pattern you saw with your tests. So sorry for your loss.

@Mamabear2221 mine was about as dark as your first FRER and never got any darker over the course of week before I started bleeding.

kirinm · 09/01/2022 17:38

Without wanting to worry you, ectopic pregnancies often start like this. A normal period with positive tests afterwards. Your best bet is for your doctor to take repeat blood tests and see what the hcg levels are doing. It's pretty much all they can do until 5-6 weeks pregnant. I hope it's nothing sinister though.

LividLaVidaLoca · 09/01/2022 17:41

To add a more positive note (and I’ve had an ectopic rupture so please do have that at h to e back of your mind, as I know you will…)

My successful pregnancy came after a two day “period”. Normal heaviness, ibuprofen, the lot. Was shorter and a couple of days earlier than normal is all.

Mamabear2221 · 09/01/2022 20:32

I feel like I have just been researching what could be going on all day long. In my appointment my doctor said that my uterine lining looks thin which was “good.” From what I’ve read it looks like it’s possible that uterine lining thickens within the first five weeks of pregnancy. So maybe that’s a good sign? Someone needs to take my access to the internet away from me.

Just got my blood results back and they said that everything is consistent with me being 3-4 weeks pregnant. I have an appointment today to get more blood work to make sure that the levels are rising as they should. Such an emotional rollercoaster.

kirinm · 10/01/2022 17:02

Fingers crossed for the next blood tests. It is a really horrible rollercoaster when this sort of thing happens.

Mamabear2221 · 10/01/2022 18:33

I just looked at my labs and my progesterone was .7ng/mL and HCG was 34. Can someone help me decipher? Clearly looking bleak.

OP posts:
kirinm · 11/01/2022 10:52

@Mamabear2221 I would try and avoid looking at the numbers - you're really interested in how they progress. HCG levels vary massively but I'm not sure what sort of level progesterone would normally be.

Will you get your second bloods back today?

Mamabear2221 · 11/01/2022 14:18

Just got them back and HCG is only 45. There were 72 hours between bloods, so I’m waiting to hear what the dr thinks it is.

OP posts:
kirinm · 11/01/2022 14:40

Sorry to hear they haven't risen properly. In my experience, you may be told to have more blood tests in 48 hours and probably a referral to your local EPU if you are in the UK.

Mamabear2221 · 11/01/2022 22:42

@kirinm thank you so much for your support. I have started cramping and bleeding today. The cramping isn’t too bad. My dr just said that they want to do another blood test on Monday and that they have seen this go either way. Trying to figure out if that’s a load of bull because my HCG rising by 11 in 72 hours doesn’t sound very viable to me. And now all I want is a hot bath, but I’m worried that if somehow everything does work out that I will be damaging the baby. Sorry for the rant!

OP posts:
kirinm · 12/01/2022 09:55

I'm sorry to hear you're bleeding but if I am being totally honest (and only with my personal experience to go on), the HCG levels failing to rise - they are meant to double every 48 hours - would suggest this isn't a viable pregnancy. Your GP should be referring you to a specialist early pregnancy unit (if you are in the UK). I would push for that if you can.
