Vitamins for ovulation

Hi!

Just wondering if there’s any vitamins that can help ovulation? Either triggering it or boosting the hormones needed.

Af was two days late this month which means the vitamin c has helped lengthen my LP which is a start. Just need to help the ovulation now I think.

The only one I've heard of for this is myo-inositol... I'm taking it to try and regulated my cycles as they're unpredictable and I'd like to encourage regular ovulation. Do you have any reason to think you're having issues ovulating?

Moominmiss · 06/02/2021 18:36

Soy isoflavones. Taken either cd2-6, 3-7, 4-8 or 5-9.

Depending which days you take them they can have a slightly different effect. The earlier you take then you have a stronger chance of releasing multiple eggs and ovulation may be brought forward slightly, the later you take them the more nature the egg will be but your ovulation won’t be brought any earlier.
Many opt to take them days 3-7 seeing as it’s the best of both worlds. A good strong ovulation, mature egg and ovulation may be slightly earlier.

Penguinmumma · 06/02/2021 22:13

@katewitch mainly because of my age. I’m 39 and tracked my LG levels last cycle and I didn’t get a very high reading really. Highest was .76 which isn’t high really. I did have a chemical in Early January so I guess I could have just skipped ovulation this month because of that.

@Moominmiss thank you! I’ll have a look for them. I figured anythings worth a try. Gonna change my vitamin c to after my fertile week as it can dry up cm apparently but it does work for lengthening LP.

I user conceive plus ovulation support tablets & it helped my period go from 66 days, down to 40 and now I have 30-35 day cycles with regular positive OPK each month :)

AllHailJackieWeaver · 07/02/2021 07:49

I'm trying soy isoflavones next cycle. I take vitamin e, b6, b12, and CoQ10 for egg quality. Vitamin c and omega 3 too.

AllHailJackieWeaver · 07/02/2021 07:52

And myo-inositol! I also lost some weight and that seems to have encouraged ovulation last cycle as I got a positive ovulation test.

thislittlebird · 07/02/2021 08:01

@katewitch do you mind me asking how irregular yours are? I suspect I’m mildly PCOS after some tests recently but because my cycles are similar ish it hasn’t ever occurred to me to try regulate them. I was reading about Inofolic Alpha today and debating whether to give it a go.

HerringGull · 07/02/2021 08:39

@HerringGull yes, what PP said, soy isoflavones.

Re the inositol... my understanding of how it works is that your body already makes it and it helps your cells be more receptive to insulin. People with PCOS often have lower insulin receptivity so because your cells aren't responding your body makes even more insulin. High insulin leads to high testosterone leads to high insulin (vicious circle). High testosterone puts your other hormones out of whack and you may ovulate irregularly or not at all. So extra inositol indirectly lowers excess insulin which in turn lowers excess testosterone.

What I'm trying to say is that unless you have an insulin/testosterone problem, I can't see how inositol will help. It's for a specific problem with cell insulin receptivity, and not (directly) linked to ovulation.

However, I've learnt all this reading articles and studies so I'm by no means an expert. If anybody knows more about it, please say because I'd love to learn more!

PurpleandOrange · 07/02/2021 08:41

Vitex moved my ovulation day from CD22 to CD17 first cycle of trying it (this cycle, currently in 2WW, conceived on it with my first born though). But I think is only supposed to be used for specific issues and can mess with cycles so needs to be researched before using! I think it works through supporting LH (the hormone that triggers O) through reducing prolactin

Penguinmumma · 07/02/2021 08:51

Thanks ladies. On the hunt for them all now. Fingers crossed!

I'm being investigated for PCOS. Have all the markers but last round of tests (pr covid) came back inconclusive. For me, it's a belt and braces job. And a 'it can't do any harm, so hopefully it might do some good mentality'.

HerringGull · 07/02/2021 09:50

@AllHailJackieWeaver you're right, sure there's nothing wrong with taking it just in case 😊 Just didn't want people thinking it was a miracle cure for every ovulation issue. I know how hard it is when you pin your hopes on something working and then it doesn't! Xx

katewitch · 07/02/2021 11:18

@thislittlebird anywhere from 26-45 days Shock so they're pretty bad. I will occasionally skip a cycle but thankfully that hasn't happened for a while... so far the inisotol seems to have helped with some weight loss which can't hurt as I struggle with that.

I didn't know about soy isoflavones but have just bought some as they can't hurt... anything to help ovulation is a good thing as mine seems to be all over the place!

AllHailJackieWeaver · 07/02/2021 11:30

Absolutely! And not ovulating is so SO bloody soul destroying, you find one thing and hope it's going to be the miracle inducer! I'm taking so many supplements and vitamins if you shook me I'd probably rattle Grin

thislittlebird · 07/02/2021 11:35

Interesting @katewitch, thanks. Mine are 25-36 but mostly 27-30 I’d say. I had it in my head they were usually 29 until I got an antral follicle scan that had a high/borderline count for my age and went to check and they’re more variable in length than I realised. I also have high cholesterol but not really a weight gain problem, and I do think I ovulate so I’m not sure what would be good to take or not. Might stick to ubiquinol for now and hope for better egg quality.

Because of the high AFC I’m not sure soy isoflavones would be right for me, I think they’re more for when you’re sure you’re not ovulating regularly? It’s a minefield.

Penguinmumma · 07/02/2021 20:44

@PurpleandOrange I used vitex with my first actually 🤔 she’s always been called a miracle by the doctors so thinking it’s gotta be worth a try to use that again!

OP posts:
PurpleandOrange · 07/02/2021 21:02

Seems to get a variable reputation, but some people swear by it it seems. It definitely worked in bringing forward my ovulation, will know in a few days whether it's a BFP this time round (8 dpo at the moment) - I'm 36 so a bit old on the TTC front though!

Penguinmumma · 08/02/2021 04:58

@PurpleandOrange I’m 39 so I feel ya! I was 30 when I managed to carry my DD. Fingers crossed for you! Let me know what happens!

PurpleandOrange · 09/02/2021 08:39

@Penguinmumma vvfl on a FRER this morning so looks like the vitex has worked it's magic first time...now hoping for a sticky bean! Could just be coincidence, but I'm sure this is related to the vitex enabling me to ovulate earlier!

ForenameSurname · 09/02/2021 19:53

@PurpleandOrange and @Penguinmumma How often did you take vitex? I was recommended it for a LH boost but I've read different things about when to take it. Some say on specific pre-ovulation days, whilst other say take one a day... So confuse!
PurpleandOrange · 09/02/2021 20:21

@ForenameSurname I started on CD1, 1x 400mg in the morning and 1x in the evening. Still taking it at 10 dpo and will continue to do so for a few weeks then cut down slowly, all being well. With my son back in 2013 I think I did 1x 1000mg (or some other high dose) per day to 12 weeks

Dagray21 · 09/02/2021 20:34

What is vitex amd where do you get it? Must Google. I found the myo inositol online, and I've not been diagnosed with pcos but did ovulation tests.one month and didn't seem to ovulate so thats how I ended up buying the inositol. Had read reviews about it regulating your cycle which is what interested me. We've been trying for 7 months and each of my cycles.have been different lengths, the longest being 36 days. I was taking pregnacare conception but that can lengthen your cycle.
Its a minefield!

PurpleandOrange · 09/02/2021 20:59

@Dagray21 it's a herb available on Amazon - seems to work for me (I suspect I have high prolactin that causes my issues) but I've heard horror stories of its effects on others cycles so worth a bit of research before trying!

Penguinmumma · 10/02/2021 06:31

@PurpleandOrange fingers crossed!! Update when you do another! Just started the q10 today as it arrived and off to get the vitex so fingers crossed!

@Penguinmumma no line progression today and light spotting this evening plus AF pains, which is how my AF always starts so I am 99% sure I am out now! Ah well, can commiserate with a glass of red at least
