Pregnant 9 weeks after c section?!

SOFIE90 · 30/12/2020 15:50

I've just had my first baby with c section 9 weeks ago.
She was conceived on one round of letrozel since I have PCOs.
I'm exclusively breastfeeding and me and my partner had sex one time at 6 weeks post partum, unprotected.
I did two FRER yesterday and both came up positive although faint.
Did a electronic this morning said non pregnant but when I opened it up there was two lines although faint.

Can I really be pregnant?! Or could it be due to breastfeeding some how, or pregnancy hormones since before even if it's 9 weeks ago since I gave birth?!

I very much doubt it's leftover hormones, think you're pregnant again!

ButterscotchBabe · 30/12/2020 16:11

That is unusual as normally breastfeeding provides a form of contraception, by no means 100%, but the theory is the body knows you have a baby to feed so it's not as easy to get pregnant. However it's unlikely you'd have pregnancy hormones 9 weeks after birth unless there was some of the placenta or other matter from the pregnancy left inside you. It's most likely you are pregnant!

Runkle · 30/12/2020 16:14

Unprotected sex will do that..

TheVanguardSix · 30/12/2020 16:17

Yikes. I'm exhausted on your behalf. Looks like you'll have your hands full this time next year. Grin

EreLongDoneDoDoesDid · 30/12/2020 16:18

I assume you want another baby quickly as you had unprotected sex so quickly after giving birth? Because I think you’re getting one!

Elwynne · 30/12/2020 16:22

Bloody hell... congratulations!!! Flowers and keep us posted

She doesn't have any formula and just been breastfed all through out. It just seems so unlikely, I have PCOs, literally had sex once. But what else could a positive mean?! Mabey I have some placenta left but it's very unlikely since I had a c section.. 😟

Very unlikely this is related to your previous pregnancy. You can be incredibly fertile after having a baby and breast feeding is not a contraceptive

pumkinpopsickle · 30/12/2020 16:50

Wow. Congratulations!

TheCrocIsOutOfTheBag · 30/12/2020 16:53

Breastfeeding is only 80% affective as a form of contraception, even when EBF. when I went to have my coil fitted the doctor was horrified that I hadn't been using another form of contraception.

Sittinginmyoodie · 30/12/2020 16:53

You are naturally very fertile after having a baby. Breastfeeding is not 100% reliable contraception. Sorry OP, you're more than likely pregnant. It's probably early days if the digital test is still negative.

miraloma · 30/12/2020 16:54

Please get advice as I am sure you're not supposed to be pregnant for at least 6 months following a section - A C-section is major abdominal surgery, and your body needs time (probably more than you realize) to fully heal.

PrimeraVez · 30/12/2020 16:54

I had a positive test at around 6 or 7 weeks post partum and my doctor said it must be a new pregnancy and not leftover hormones. But then a blood test came back negative so I only assume it was a faulty test, although I did a few and the lines were pretty clear 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dollywilde · 30/12/2020 16:57

I’m 19 weeks post birth now and the idea of being pregnant again right now horrifies me (even though we want another in the future) so if you’re less than happy about this then I’m sorry and take the time you need to make whatever decision you need to. Flowers But yes, while it’s unusual I think it would be much more unusual to be related to your newborn DC pregnancy.

plixy · 30/12/2020 17:00

Agree with pp that getting pregnant so soon after a section can be dangerous. They recommend 1 year, but 6 months min. If you aren't healed properly then the scar can split as your uterus grows again. Which is obviously life threatening for mum and baby.
It is unlikely to be left over hormones so please see a dr ASAP for a blood test/scan and advice.

Figgygal · 30/12/2020 17:01

I think you need to see a dr urgently and sort out contraception if you aren’t pg

I have an appointment for January. But they wouldn't see me before. 😬

I've never heard of this, I feel like midwifes should tell you this before discharging you.

Anyone with experience being pregnant this early after a c section?! 😫

flossletsfloss · 30/12/2020 17:08

Please don't panic. I do feel that people do love to scare sometimes. If you are pregnant (which it looks like you are) although it is very rare with proper exclusively breastfed babies then you need to speak to your doctor. Don't think for one second you are the first or last to be in this position. No it's probably not ideal but when is life ideal? Congratulations on your baby and your pregnancy! 👍

Mysa74 · 30/12/2020 17:18

My doctor and my health visitor warned me that it's very easy to conceive again in the first few months after giving birth... Good luck OP.

Mommabear20 · 30/12/2020 17:23

I'd highly recommend seeing your gp or midwife, I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant with my second, fell pregnant when DD was 4 months old (planned) and was told I'd have consultant led care as my pregnancies are so close together, and I had a natural delivery not a csection, I imagine a csection will need longer to fully heal.

pringlebells · 30/12/2020 17:26

I got caught 8 months after having my son (we had previously been told we were infertile and had multiple rounds of ivf to have my son)

So I understand the shock.

Hope you're okay OP, I would ring your gp and test again in a week.

Caaarrrl · 30/12/2020 17:28

Would you be happy if you are pregnant?

RoomAtTheEndOfTheWorld · 30/12/2020 17:30

Wow, congratulations!

Agree it's unlikely to be left over hormones if you had a c-section.
What made you take a test? Did you have any symptoms?
