Hi all,

Sorry if this is a silly question but I'm looking at purchasing the Clearblue digital ovulation test. The pack comes with refills but can I not buy more refills without buying the actual digital test?

I've looked but can find them.

TIA x

I@Daisy545 I've looked for the refills too and can't find them, seems ridiculous doesn't it x

Daisy545 · 09/08/2020 21:10

I don't get it, so we have to buy the test with 20 strips every time? 😔

OP posts:
greytminds · 09/08/2020 21:13

Actually the problem is the other way round - the test can only be used for a single month, then you need to buy another test. So end up wasting tons of testing strips as most people don’t need to test for 20 days to get to their peak.

Having said that, I conceived using them so I would still recommend!

RMarieClaire · 09/08/2020 21:15

@Daisy545 afraid so. I think they work well but they only last one cycle - once you hit peak the stick won't work again. You could use ICs until you get to within your window then switch?

Daisy545 · 09/08/2020 21:15

I thought I read that you could change the battery so presumed it was reusable.

This makes more sense. How long did you have to track for @greytminds before falling pregnant? X

OP posts:
chubbyhotchoc · 09/08/2020 21:16

No you can't. Make sure you don't mix your holders up. I think these tests are brilliant btw. All my pregnancies I used them.

Daisy545 · 09/08/2020 21:19

Thanks all ❤️

The reviews seem very positive so I might bite the bullet and give it a go. I do not have regular periods at all so have no idea when I would ovulate, thought these would be perfect x

OP posts:
greytminds · 09/08/2020 21:20

Second cycle using it the first time (although had been ttc for years ) and then first cycle the second time (at 40) when I was only tracking to check if ovulating as still breastfeeding, and totally did not expect to get pregnant as it had been such a long struggle the first time and being much older.

majesticallyawkward · 09/08/2020 21:21

I'm sure I've seen refills but I've always used the cheap strips and the glow app. Much cheaper and gets the same result. I think last time I paid £6 or £7 for 60 tests (and still have about 40 sat in the cupboard no longer needed)

Daisy545 · 09/08/2020 21:26

Do you think I could test every other day? Would this work or really lose track of it? X

OP posts:
Lollol86 · 09/08/2020 21:33

@greytminds my 20 pack has worked for over 2 months so not sure what you mean?

claireb707 · 09/08/2020 21:33

@greytminds @RMarieClaire

Not true

I've been using the same device now for 5 months, I buy the boxes of 20 and just put that box's device away and carry on using the original one

Once you get peak you can't retest for 48 hours but the device will still work.

It's best you do carry on using the same one as it 'learns' your baseline hormone levels.

Only issue is if the battery goes mid fw, but it's only happened to me once in 11 months

Lollol86 · 09/08/2020 21:35

@claireb707 i was going to say I've never had any issues with using the same device each month.

@Daisy545 you should test every morning.

Daisy545 · 09/08/2020 21:36

Maybe I've completely misunderstood how to use it.

If I do not have regular periods and don't know when I ovulate wouldn't I need to use one strip every day?

Sorry if this sounds silly x

It does depend on which one you are talking about? There are 3

The cb digital, the cb digital advanced and the electronic one (v expensive)

The digital one tests just for lh and gives you a couple of days window, the digital advanced one tests for estrogen and LH and gives you a 6 day window, not sure about the 3rd but this one you can buy refills for. The other 2 are complete sets but you can reuse the devices from both but you can't buy refills

claireb707 · 09/08/2020 21:41

I personally use the digital advanced one, I have regular 28/29 day cycles ovulating around day 14/15

I started testing day 9 ish with fmu, as soon as I got flashing smiley, I started testing 3 times a day with cheapies and once with cbd. When cheapies got dark I tested twice a day with cbd to make sure I got peak.

I've got my peak spot on (confirmed with ewcm and temps) on 11 months out of 12 with this method

ShinyBadger · 09/08/2020 21:46

I have been using the clear blue connected one which has an app and connects by bluetooth to your phone I have used it for 4 months and still have enough sticks to go for another 2 months.
Before that I had just the digital one but the holder stopped working after 3 months.
I like the connected on as it’s clear to see.
I haven’t tried the electronic very expensive one.

Daisy545 · 09/08/2020 21:51

Thanks @claireb707 it's the advanced one I've been looking at also. I would have to use everyday or other day then to get a definite answer when I'm ovulating wouldn't I?

Will be expensive at the start until I get to know my cycle but hopefully worth it in the long run.

OP posts:
kittenpeak · 09/08/2020 21:58

I swore by these when getting pregnant.
You cannot buy the "strips" on their own. Depending on your cycle, 10 tests a month is normally enough. I would buy a pack of 2 (and yes use the "tester" twice") and if still no pregnant, maybe then buy a pack of 10 for month 3. Or another pack of 2 if you want two more months worth. This does mean you'll end up with more than one tester, but it's more than worth the money. I'm giving my unused strips and testers to a friend who is now trying

claireb707 · 09/08/2020 22:06

Use everyday, it's very easy to miss your peak.

If I only tested once a day with fmu I would miss my peak which typically occurs around 4pm (hence testing multiple times once I get flashing smiley)

RMarieClaire · 09/08/2020 22:07

I wondered about this, @claireb707 -
Do you think they just say you can't so you have to buy another? I always end up with spare sticks so seems so silly to buy a whole new set!

This said I think I'll buy the ovusense next cycle because it's a good long term investment and frankly if I only end up needing it for one cycle (unlikely) I won't be upset!

Daisy545 · 09/08/2020 22:12

@claireb707 so just to be clear I should use the same digital reader but once I hit peak I can't test for 2 days. Then I'll be able to use it again as normal? X

OP posts:
chubbyhotchoc · 09/08/2020 23:24

@Daisy545 basically every time you use it you set a new baseline so that's why it's important you test once a day on consecutive days in the morning. If you tested say Monday morning you set your baseline. If you were then to test Monday night you'd set a new baseline so if you then tested Tuesday morning you'd skew your results and you may get more days of flashing smiley than you normally would because it will detect the surge between the more concentrated first morning urine and the night time urine which wouldn't be a true surge. Once you get the static smiley you're going to ovulate In the next 24 hours. The static smiley will stay on screen for a day and then go blank. It will reset itself after 48 hours and you'd be able to use it again next cycle but it doesn't make that much difference if you use a new holder or not.

Edinburghfalls · 09/08/2020 23:47

@claireb707 I thought that when it changed to peak that just indicated you would ovulate in next 24-36hra or something, so there isn’t a need to test multiple times a day?

OP, I used these and think they are really effective.
You don’t need to test from day one. I think they advise day 6/7 or something. Once I had done it for 2 months I knew that I ovulated around day 17, so I’d start on day 12 or something.
You can’t buy just the refills. It’s a pain.i thought I bought some once and when they arrived they were for the monitor that you can buy for £80 (which you then need expensive refills for) - that was annoying.

Sometimes amazon have a deal on a extra large pack. But a pack would last me 2/3 months. The monitor/results bit becomes unusable for 48hrs once you peak, but then I definitely reused mine. But there’s no real need as you’ll always end up with more given you can’t buy the sticks alone.
The instructions are very clear and just make sure you read them. I misunderstood the time scales involved the first month and once I peaked I thought I only had a few hours but actually I think you have 36hrs or something before theoretically ovulating.. that’s probably way out as it was a while ago but you get my drift.

Wishing you luck

greytminds · 10/08/2020 03:34

Ok I stand corrected - the monitor is reusable! It didn’t used to be (as far as I remember) but I checked the website and sure enough it does say it is. It only seems to suggest it is for the next month - presumably as they don’t sell refills and they still want to make their money selling the full kits.

If anyone wants any refills, I must have 10+ I don’t need and would be happy to post them out.
