Had anyone had experience of falling pregnant using the pull out method?

Me and my partner have decided to use the pull out method after a difficult time on hormonal contraceptives.
We will be using condoms when my fertility/cycle tracking apps predict my fertile window and pull out method during other times. He has never miss judged it and always pulls out with plenty of time.

Had anyone had experience of falling pregnant using the pull out method?

Yes, he’s 13 now.

aureliacecilia · 30/07/2020 09:28

Are you OK with the possibility of getting pregnant or an abortion? If not this is not the right method for you.

Maybe look into the copper coil.

Babdoc · 30/07/2020 09:29

What do you call people who use the withdrawal method of contraception? “Parents”.

HappyDinosaur · 30/07/2020 09:29

Loads of people I know have, it's not really a method you can rely on in any way. You need to use condoms all the time to be safe if you aren't using any other form of contraception.

Desiringonlychild · 30/07/2020 09:30

I have been using the pull out method since I got married at 21/22.

No pregnancies to date at 27.

There are times when I worry about my own fertility.

FelicityPike · 30/07/2020 09:30

Thousands of people!
It is not a reliable method. You can get pregnant from precum remember.

2020wish · 30/07/2020 09:41

Precum can have active sperm. It is not a method of contraception at all

AriettyHomily · 30/07/2020 09:42

Perfect if you want to have a baby.

Desiringonlychild · 30/07/2020 09:43

As a disclaimer, I would be ok with getting pregnant. We just hoped to earn more money before we had the baby, but we own our own home and have a stable relationship etc.

My plan is to have the baby when we earn our ideal income/when I am 32/when it happens. Then DH would get the snip.

And I would have a lifetime of no contraceptives

Bemorechicken · 30/07/2020 09:46

It's 96% effective -meaning in a given year, 4 women in every 100 will get pregnant. Places a lot of stress on the guy -and a lot of responsibility - and you need to rely on him doing it.

Pregnancy is a real possibility.

Isthisfinallyit · 30/07/2020 09:49

My SIL. Twice. When she was in her forties.

It's not contraception. Why not use condoms/copper coil/femidoms/diaphragm? Or do you have a problem with all of these options as well??

Roselilly36 · 30/07/2020 09:50

DH & I used that method for years, never got pregnant, it wouldn’t have been a disaster if I had have done though. When I wanted to get pregnant I fell the same month of trying with both of my two. So it can work in my experience.

CornedBeef451 · 30/07/2020 09:54

Yes, I'm 43 now and the product if a miss timed pull out.

JorisBonson · 30/07/2020 09:57

I have 7 aunties and 2 uncles thanks to the pill out method.

I know of at least 4 pull our babies among my friends kids.

Just get a copper coil.if you don't want to get pregnant.

villamariavintrapp · 30/07/2020 10:06

Think it's fine if you're just planning on postponing pregnancy a bit but don't really mind. Not fine if you definitely don't want to get pregnant.

gypsywater · 30/07/2020 10:07

Used pullout for like 7 years with partner. No pregnancies in that time. Now TTC.

Valambtine · 30/07/2020 10:11

We have used this method successfully for ten years, with the proviso that we only use pull out in the last week of my cycle well after ovulation. We use condoms beforehand. Cervical mucus changes throughout the cycle and this can be used to measure when it's safer to pull out. TMI but FYI:
Pre ov mucus is lotion like and creamy
During ov it's watery or eggwhitey and will stretch in your fingers
After ov, it turns paste like or crumbly and will roll or flake in the fingers

This should be a standard part of female to female history imo. I was in my 30s before I knew this.

Elouera · 30/07/2020 10:14

2 nieces were conceived this way! I'd keep a stash of the morning after pill on hand. A family planning clinic could go through your options of non hormonal contraception.

Togepi · 30/07/2020 10:15

I was conceived this way Grin

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/07/2020 10:16

Why not just use condoms every time?

It’s not contraception. You must know that. And surely it ruins the moment.

Be safe. Rubber up. Or admit you’re ttc and stop pretending you’re trying to have safe sex.

ALJ1210 · 30/07/2020 10:17

Thanks for the people responding with genuine answers and life experiences.
I didn't ask for judgment on my choices, but people can't help themselves can they 😂

For the record, I don't mind falling pregnant.

Also would like to point out I think people need to read the full post, since I stated we do use condoms during our fertile window to minimise chances.

I know about the general statistics but wanted to hear peoples own real life experiences.

Thanks everyone x

There's a name for couples who rely on the pull out method. It's 'parents'.

FeeBeeBooh · 30/07/2020 10:26

My friends pullout baby is shortly turning 5.

Somethingkindaoooo · 30/07/2020 10:36

I've had 2 pull out babies
😂

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/07/2020 10:37

For the record, I don't mind falling pregnant

Does your partner feel the same?
