@candycrush2298 I'm worried I'm getting false readings because of my PCOS :( I'm due AF anytime from 19th - 2nd, surely I still can't be yet to ovulate this far along?

candycrush2298 · 10/07/2020 21:07

@ReginaaPhalange I doubt it would be closer to the 19th. I mean a luteal phase is like max max max max (rarely) 16 days short is like 10 days. So if you did ovulate CD22 or there abouts its still plausible.

@candycrush2298 we have DSD this week, so may be hard to BD this weekend just in case. Will try go for it tomorrow lol! Punt DSD out to play, lock the door for 5 mins and go for it hahaha!!!!

ReginaaPhalange · 10/07/2020 21:14

@candycrush2298 here's the month at a glance. I don't understand the L phase though 🤯🤯 what does it mean haha

AF Due 20/07
candycrush2298 · 10/07/2020 21:26

@ReginaaPhalange I dont know too much about PCOS but I would at least give it this weekend BD some when you can and see on Monday if its still flashing then its probably pretty not going to go static this month but it doesn't mean you didn't ovulate the only way to know if you ovulated 100% is by charting your BBT.

OP posts:
candycrush2298 · 10/07/2020 21:27

@ReginaaPhalange the luteal phase is the 2 weeks after ovulation before AF. Its where progesterone increases and the healthier your luteal phase the better chance of conception you have

Kaybobx · 10/07/2020 21:31

@ReginaaPhalange have you tried a different brand? They look super high just not getting a peak.

Im such an emotional wreck tonight! I've been moody allday since i heard the news someone at work was pregnant. Now I've had to cancel my food plans with my friends tomorrow (long story) just had an absolute crying break down! Whats wrong with me?!

ReginaaPhalange · 10/07/2020 21:56

@candycrush2298 so should it be less than what I'm getting now?
I have just purchased a thermometer so I can do the temperature too

ReginaaPhalange · 10/07/2020 21:56

@Kaybobx they are amazon one step ones. Going to get easy at home ones though for next month

candycrush2298 · 10/07/2020 22:05

@Kaybobx ah sorry you have been so emotional!!! Think its normal to be emotional about something we want so badly the dissapointment of it not happening for us and it happening for everyone around us is devastating. And high emotions could be what you looking for I know you still really early so monitor it and see if the emotions stay so strong. I am getting quite strong AF pains today so think I am not pg AF is just going to start.

@ReginaaPhalange usually the fertile window is about 6 days. And yours seems like its a bit longer. I dont know if its normal for people with PCOS to have longer fertile windows maybe give it a Google and see.

Yeah I honestly need to use my thermometer that way I can say for sure I am ovulating etc.

OP posts:
Kaybobx · 10/07/2020 22:28

I wish i could do a thermometer. I just wont remember as absolutely not a morning person.

@ReginaaPhalange i use the one step ones and to be honest mine dont get a blazing dark red. I only confirm my peak with the CB digital alongside it. I'll post a pic in the morning, they are in my bathroom bin.

@candycrush2298 ive not cried in a long time. You know when it all just builds up and you let it all out and you cant stop
Yeah that was me today! I dont even know why. I had a lovely afternoon at the farm with my little one and mum. Ugh hormones!

candycrush2298 · 10/07/2020 22:34

@Kaybobx yeah i totally know. My friend has been trying for 6 years and had to lose weight and they had to find out what was wrong with her before she could get onto the list for IVF - she is finally there on the list so her 9 month wait begins for treatment. Anyway after last months BFN I felt completely emotionally drained. 2 years not knowing what's up with my hubby, if there's still something wrong with me do I have cysts etc. It all built up it all got too much and I was so angry and I let it all out on my friend I screamed at her called her names told her she didn't understand (which obviously she does) but yeah I was a total b@$×÷% to her. Our hormones are so frustrating.

I hope you have a better weekend and if you dont and your emotions start ramping up then I can't wait to see when you have peed on a stick 😄😄😄😄😄

@ReginaaPhalange The reason they say OPK’s may give false readings for women with PCOS is because some women always have elevated LH levels therefore the OPK will always show a positive whenever they test. The other issue is for women who have longer cycles. As someone explained before sometimes the ovaries gear up to ovulate can’t quite do it so will try again and therefore you get more than one peak. When using OPK’s your usually told you stop checking after the first peak.

Keep testing you never know. However there is a chance you haven’t ovulated this month. Please don’t be freaked out by that. It’s totally normal especially when you have PCOS. When I first had my bloods done they found that I didn’t ovulate either. I had to make some lifestyle changes to get my body to ovulate again and if I am bad in a month the next month I can tell with my cycles that I have messed things up. Wait this month out and if your AF arrives then do some research on how to adapt your lifestyle to control PCOS.

Many people with PCOS conceive naturally some don’t even realise until having their kids that they have the condition. Be strong, small steps!

Also this might be a silly question but you don’t stick your OPK’s into urine that’s very dilute do you?

ReginaaPhalange · 10/07/2020 22:40

@Elakiya I probably need to cut back on my evening snacking lol. But I'm not overweight I'd say.... size 12 - probably about 11.6 stone. Huge hips (naturally) and a big bust (34F), but this cabin we've built will house a treadmill (once I order the bloody thing) so that's an aim there to keep fit. I don't eat badly to be honest though - lots of lean meats and fruit and veg. Will defo read up more on this though.

I usually dip first morning urine then again later in the day after holding it in for 2 hours, so it's never dilute.

I'll test again tomorrow with the clear blue advanced, BD at night and hole after 7 days I'll have a peak lol

Elakiya · 10/07/2020 22:43

@candycrush2298 sorry to hear that you think AF is about to arrive. Two ways to look at it

  1. if it doesn’t arrive you still have a chance of being pregnant
  2. if it does arrive at least the cycles over and you get a chance to try again.

Fingers crossed for your hubby’s test! I thought your testing was over? What else are they looking to test on you? Sorry if that’s a personal question feel free not to answer.

Elakiya · 10/07/2020 22:47

@ReginaaPhalange does that mean that before the treadmill you’re intending to get, you didn’t have a form of regular exercise ( I am not judging because that was me 1 yr ago...). Regular exercise makes a massive massive difference to PCOS and can show it’s results within a month or two.

Also if you have a lot of sugar/carbs try to cut back slightly. I’ve been really bad during lockdown however, I was trying to adapt my diet towards a diabetic one, as the first thing they’ll do is give you Metformin and see if it makes you ovulate.

Elakiya · 10/07/2020 22:48

@ReginaaPhalange when did you start testing this month?

ReginaaPhalange · 10/07/2020 22:49

@Elakiya very little exercise. Normally go for a quick 3km walk at night but that's about it. I used to do more intense weight workouts but I've got a bad shoulder so that flared up.

ReginaaPhalange · 10/07/2020 22:50

@Elakiya I've been testing since CD8

candycrush2298 · 10/07/2020 22:54

@Elakiya they are done with my tests in the sense that the first step with NHS is just to test that you did ovulate by blood tests which check for peaks in progesterone on CD21 which they found- twice to make sure. Then they move onto hubby and test his semen if that comes back fine they then move back to me and we get referred to the fertility clinic whereby they could check my tubes, scan to make sure I have no cysts etc and if they happy with those results they may suggest trying clomid and if that doesn't work after 6 months the fertility clinic will look at options like IUI, IVF, ICSI. So its a lengthy process and a lot of it is process of elimination.

OP posts:
Elakiya · 10/07/2020 22:56

@ReginaaPhalange why don’t you try couch to 5k?

I test from CD8 too I think that’s a reasonable cycle day to test from.

I also watched a video where a lady with PCOS talks about eating to conceive in it she says that a gynae told her to limit carbs to a small window in the day therefore she had her carbs (by carbs I mean bread, rice etc not the carbs you find in fruit and veg) for dinner. I might give it a try from tomorrow to see if it helps next months cycle for me.

Elakiya · 10/07/2020 22:59

@candycrush2298 I think cysts on ovaries aren’t necessarily an issue, it’s if it’s accompanied with things like a hormonal imbalance that it’s an issue. However they do need to check your tubes, fibroids, polyps etc. I thought clomid was given to make you ovulate as you do it should be okay?

candycrush2298 · 10/07/2020 23:00

@Elakiya I would actually be happy if she just showed up and I could start again i already knew this cycle was a screw up because I was testing all wrong and messed up with the CB monitor so want to start a fresh.

I dont think I am pg because I dont feel like we actually have a shot we didn't BD enough in my opinion so the positives don't really mean anything to me other than false. Of course I will be dissapointed but I am like that every month when AF starts I am by no means immune to the pain and dissapointment I just have a quick rebound. I cry it out with my husband he holds me we talk it out and then away and we go for a great long cycle together work through the emotions. Come home watch a film with some snacks and then get back to it after AF.

OP posts:
candycrush2298 · 10/07/2020 23:03

@Elakiya yeah they do offer chlomid to people to help them ovulate I only meant its like their list of options that they run through based on our current situation i didnt mean they would offer us each option only that they have a list of options they work from and they will offer things to us based on our situation. So who knows hubby may have low sperm count, I could have a blockage, no one knows we will only know when testing resumes. For now we just keep trying and try to stay positive no matter how hard it is.
