Short Luteal Phase Gang!

Beau20 · 27/02/2020 09:05

I started a thread a while ago asking for success stories but now I would love to get all the girls together who are struggling to conceive with their short Luteal Phase!

Here's a little bit about me -

TTC #1
Cycle 7
28 years old
Luteal phase average 9-10 days longest being 11 days.
Ovulation CD17-18 cycles 26-28 days long

I have had 2 pregnancies before (both termination please no flaming) both conceived without even trying, one with my current partner of 6 years. I also had a chemical in January. My last contraception was Nexplanon for 1 year and before that I was on the pill for 10 years or so (which was when I conceived previous). I have been taking 50mg sertraline for 6 months then 100mg sertraline for 6 months after that and have just stopped completely today. This is the only thing I have been doing differently since I conceived last time so part of me thinks this may affect fertility.

I'd love to hear about everyone else's journey! x

Omg yes the 10 mummy photos yes.... It is such a bad time for it. Of course people want to celebrate having their kids and how much joy they bring but sometimes it's tough to see when you worry it might not happen for you.

I can't remember if you said you had gone to gp re prog or not? Once I ov I'm going to get prog bloods taken.

Part of me feels I want to pursue these avenues and see if there is an issue and part of me wants to keep trying for another few months before I go down that rabbit hole 🐰🕳️ xx

Proseccoprincess33 · 12/05/2020 15:58

@nat4392 that comment made me lol took one time to conceive. So many people have said that to me. And I can see people staring at my stomach when they haven't seen me in a while to gauge whether I am pregnant or in fact I'm putting on lock down weight. It's a real joyous time to be alive 😂

Hey I wondered if you knowledgable ladies
Could help me.
I’ve been ttc #2 for 6 months and I am tracking so I know we are having sex at the right time. I think my LP is the shorter side of normal around 10 days but I am confused when the LP starts? This cycle my opk was positive saturday, positive Sunday morning then negative by 7pm (didn’t test between morning and 7pm) what do I count as day 1, Sunday or Monday?

Nat4392 · 13/05/2020 11:24

@Willow146 if you still had positive on Sunday, you will more than likely ovulate Monday. So your LP starts Tuesday (1DPO) x

Willow146 · 13/05/2020 11:53

Thank you, because the test was negative Sunday pm would that mean I ovulated Sunday just late in the day?

Nat4392 · 13/05/2020 12:34

The general advice is that you ovulate 24-36 hours after your last positive test so it was most likely Monday. I regularly get my positives in the same way x

Willow146 · 13/05/2020 12:39

Okay thank you for your advice. Based on that my LP is probably only 9 days then. I feel a long road ahead!

Nat4392 · 13/05/2020 13:05

Have you tried anything to increase your LP yet? I’ve tried Agnus Castus this cycle so I’m yet to see if it’s had an effect

Proseccoprincess33 · 13/05/2020 17:58

@Nat4392 I would be I terested to see how you get on with AC. And whether it delayed ovulation. Etc. So infuriating that it's relatively easy to extend follicular phase but near impossible to extend luteal. Hopefully AC does the trick xx

Nat4392 · 13/05/2020 19:13

@Proseccoprincess33 so far it’s delayed ovulation by 2 days (I’m pretty consistent with FP), I’m currently 9DPO so we’ll see if it has an effect on LP. I only took half the dose as I was worried about it messing up my cycle completely so it may not be as effective as it could be x

Proseccoprincess33 · 13/05/2020 23:04

@Nat4392 I really hope it does for you. Would be a real stress lifted I am sure xx

crazychemist · 14/05/2020 19:59

I was on a previous thread for sho7rt luteal phase, so wanted to pop on quickly (although I think there aren't any of the same ladies now). Hopefully it will give a bit of hope - my luteal phase was never right after I had DD1, never made it past 10 days and often shorter, sometimes 7 or so days. We tried for more than 18 months and I tried everything to lengthen my luteal phase, but never had any luck. Started investigations with the doctor, and discovered that only one ovary was functioning as well, and the other had several very large cysts. Basically, everything looked a bit grim. Despite not sorting out the luteal phase, I'm now 10 weeks pregnant. Please do hang in there ladies, even with a very short luteal phase there is a chance. Fingers crossed for all of you.

Proseccoprincess33 · 14/05/2020 21:49

Awww @crazychemist that's wonderful news, Congratulations 🤗 wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months.

That does give hope. So you had no intervention and still got pregnant? Did GP think your limited ovary function on one side had caused short lp? My cycles have always been 26 days so I must have always had a short lp I reckon and only realised when I started tracking ovulation. My sister had a 9 day lp and managed to conceive okay.

I'm getting day 21 bloods done next week but from what I hear GPS are not in favour of giving progesterone supplements 😭

So I will just battle on in the hope I get my bfp soon ❤️

Thanks again for your lovely story 💕💕💕

Nat4392 · 14/05/2020 21:54

@crazychemist thanks for your story, it really does help to hear that others have had success.
Think AF is arriving. Just had kind of brownish tinged CM on wiping (TMI). If she is arriving then the Agnus Castus did bugger all other than make me ovulate later and have an even shorter LP! 🤦🏻‍♀️

crazychemist · 15/05/2020 08:48

@Proseccoprincess33, no we didn’t have any intervention - we had started down that path, but because of COVID it was put on hold. My GP wasn’t sure about the cause - he thought it might be to do with the cysts on the ovary, most of my family have PCOS and irregular cycles, and my progesterone was very low when they did blood tests. He said that our odds were very low without intervention, but to keep trying because 10 days is long enough for implantation if you’re lucky. He didn’t want to do progesterone supplements without LOTS of tests, which we never got completed.

So fingers crossed you lovely ladies also get some good luck and a sticky bean

Proseccoprincess33 · 15/05/2020 09:50

@Nat4392 possible implantation bleeding?? I hope that's what is is 😊

@crazychemist thanks again and I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy 💕

So annoying that there is such reluctance to give progesterone when in many cases that is usually the root cause xxx

Nat4392 · 15/05/2020 11:31

@Proseccoprincess33 well there’s no sign of anything this morning so it’s a possibility but I really don’t want to get my hopes up 🙈

sausageface · 15/05/2020 13:15

@Nat4392 fingers crossed for you this month!!

@Proseccoprincess33 I didn't even think about trying to chat with the gp about things during lockdown, I assumed they'd say to wait. Will keep it in mind if this cycle isn't successful!

Proseccoprincess33 · 15/05/2020 20:44

@Nat4392 oh I have everything crossed for you 🤞🤞🤞

@sausageface I had spoken to gp on phone and asked if I could get them done and she had agreed. They honestly agree to anything tjing, so bloods next Friday as today was peak on ovulation test. Maybe I'll get pregnant and not need the test results 🤞🤞🤞xxx

Nat4392 · 16/05/2020 10:15

Well no sign of AF this morning either. Tbh I’m happy to get to 12DPO. If she hasn’t arrived by tomorrow I’ll test, I’ve otherwise had no symptoms so not getting my hopes up

Proseccoprincess33 · 16/05/2020 12:25

That's amazing @Nat4392 Either way that is a great result xxx

Nat4392 · 16/05/2020 13:20

@Proseccoprincess33 I’ve managed to get to 12DPO a couple of times but never 13, so tomorrow would be a big milestone if I actually get there. I’ve just got no symptoms whatsoever and my boobs have stopped hurting which is a sign that AF is imminent so not getting myself over excited...

Nat4392 · 16/05/2020 17:19

I’m out. AF just arrived, so fed up with it all!! 😢

Proseccoprincess33 · 16/05/2020 19:19

Awk @Nat4392 I really am so sorry. I know how devastating it is 😢 be kind to yourself. This will happen for you, your time will come. But have a good cry and treat yourself. Big hugs xxx

Nat4392 · 16/05/2020 20:04

@Proseccoprincess33 thanks ❤️ It’s a dominos and movie night for us. Had a good cry and a moan, onward to cycle 10!
