Short Luteal Phase Gang!

Beau20 · 27/02/2020 09:05

I started a thread a while ago asking for success stories but now I would love to get all the girls together who are struggling to conceive with their short Luteal Phase!

Here's a little bit about me -

TTC #1
Cycle 7
28 years old
Luteal phase average 9-10 days longest being 11 days.
Ovulation CD17-18 cycles 26-28 days long

I have had 2 pregnancies before (both termination please no flaming) both conceived without even trying, one with my current partner of 6 years. I also had a chemical in January. My last contraception was Nexplanon for 1 year and before that I was on the pill for 10 years or so (which was when I conceived previous). I have been taking 50mg sertraline for 6 months then 100mg sertraline for 6 months after that and have just stopped completely today. This is the only thing I have been doing differently since I conceived last time so part of me thinks this may affect fertility.

I'd love to hear about everyone else's journey! x

@kaffy197 thank you!Grin

Slk3558 · 14/12/2020 09:31

@Pinklilly very interesting that . Well I’m 5dpo today and the soreness appears to kicking in. Underneath and around the sides. I have quite big boobs as well maybe that’s why we are prone to it? Not sure why it’s kicked in later this month as last month was D0 and DPO1 sore straight away. Just got to see how it goes I guess. Congrats again.

Pinklilly · 14/12/2020 21:58

@Slk3558 tbh I had never considered the correlation of big breasts and pain but it seems likely. This month my soreness was also out of sync with my norm (it started 7dpo) and I was annoyed because that is earlier than normal and thought it was indicative of period. So perhaps the change in pattern could be a good sign for you. Would love to see how you get on, sending all the baby luck. Thank you for the congrats. I also forgot to say I used conceive plus this month. Who knows if that made a difference as for us it wS cycle 4 so I appreciate not that many months of trying, but I felt so much more relaxed with the conceive plus because I didn't have to ensure that my body and my brain were in the same mood! Also much nicer for my husband too as less work for him! Maybe worth considering?

Slk3558 · 16/12/2020 10:12

@Pinklilly so bizarrely the sore boobs stopped yesterday 6dpo and today 7dpo they feel very much like normal. This is a first for me. They’re normally sore from dpo1 - day of AF!
I might invest in some conceive plus although I am on vit B complex, C D and E now which is quite a lot of what’s in the conceive plus. But that conceive plus has the mangenisium zinc etc so could be worth a try. I am just happy to have no pain whatsoever. I’m hoping it’s a good sign. Is everything going well with you?

Pinklilly · 16/12/2020 22:17

Hi @Slk3558 that sounds really good that the breasts are not hurting, hopefully a better hormonal balance and must be a lot nicer. The tww is the biggest pain but you're almost through it. Fingers crossed. You have done well to take all the vitamins in which case you're right probably don't need conceive plus. Tbh I used it not for its content but more just to have a lube, something to rely on to help when I really wasn't feeling like I wanted to try. But for me it put my mind at ease that being "wet enough" was one less thing I had to think about. I'm getting on well thank you for asking, just Extremely sore breasts when I remove my bra like my nipples brush against my top and it hurts. Otherwise I'm very well no other difficult symptoms. The irony is that now I feel I'm in another waiting period until we can have a scan! You have to laugh, I've spent more of my Ttc period waiting for something than I have livingConfused. Good luck and do keep me posted!

Slk3558 · 19/12/2020 11:24

So this just happened at 10 DPO . Actually shaking. @Pinklilly do you see what I’m seeing?

Short Luteal Phase Gang!
Pinklilly · 19/12/2020 22:58

@Slk3558 omg I see it! This is so exciting. Have you got an frer? How long is your luteal phase normally? Eeek I've got everything crossed that this is it for you!

Slk3558 · 20/12/2020 10:07

@Pinklilly just did a FRER this morning very strong positive. can’t believe it!

Slk3558 · 20/12/2020 10:08

@Pinklilly leutal phase normally 10 days but had some intermittent cramps starting 8dpo and then really strong lower back pain 9 and yesterday 10 dpo so I had a feeling and tested yesterday.

Pinklilly · 21/12/2020 20:55

@Slk3558 oh this is such wonderful news! I am so pleased for you!!! Eeek so so exciting!

Slk3558 · 21/12/2020 21:24

@Pinklilly thanks I am still in shock. It’s mad that we both got our bfps.

How are you doing and how are your symptoms? I’ve just been having intermittent aches down there and in my back and peeing a bit more often .Apart from that nothing really. supposed I’m really early tho 12 dpo today.

Rose2108 · 27/12/2020 10:29

Hi Ladies... I've got the same issue as so many of you! Nice to find people discussing the things I Google all day long 🤣

I've made some notes on the vitamins you all suggest, thanks so much for sharing. Lovely to see success stories too!!

My cycle is about 26 - 28 days, at around 9dpo I start spotting brown discharge. This can last anything between 2 - 4 days and then AF will properly arrive. We've been ttc our first for 6 months now, I'm 31 like many of you! I was on the pill for about 12 years and came off a year ago.

Looking forward to following your journeys and sharing advice! X

kaffy197 · 28/12/2020 22:36

@Rose2108 hello! I've started on the recommended vitamins at the start of this cycle and just about to ovulate, so I'm excited to see if they have made a difference.

@Slk3558 congratulations!!

Slk3558 · 11/01/2021 14:59

Hi girls. I may be joining you all again soon. Just been diagnosed missed miscarriage at 7 weeks. It stopped growing at 5 weeks. Looks like I was unlucky. It hasn’t passed yet but I’m spotting as soon as it passes I’ll be looking to TTC again as soon as I ovulate ! ☹️

kaffy197 · 11/01/2021 16:00

@Slk3558 Oh no I'm so sorry to hear that 😞 I hope you are both doing OK??

Rose2108 · 11/01/2021 16:17

@Slk3558 Oh I am so sorry to hear that... I can't even imagine the disappointment. I just hope you are feeling okay, aside from the obvious emotional difficulty.

Slk3558 · 12/02/2021 10:00

Hello everyone I’m back ttc1 after my mmc.Smile . I’ve made it to 10 DPO no AF so far. Anyone else in the TWW?

GlassLily · 15/02/2021 06:23

I'd love to join this thread if you'll have me! I'm 11 months into ttc #1 and usually have a 10 day LP. I started taking B complex 2 cycles ago and have had CPs in both those cycles, mc at 4.5 weeks. Have just been prescribed progesterone pessary which I'm using for the first time this month - which is great as the 2 MCs seem to me like my progesterone is just dropping off too early.

@Slk3558 I am so sorry about your MMC. I am just into TWW after ovulating today/y'day, and I'm full of hope. Are you still in TWW? Or have you had AF or BFP?

Slk3558 · 09/04/2021 10:20

@GlassLily hi and sorry for the delayed response. Well after my last post I got another BFP but unfortunately had another miscarriage at 5.5 weeks. Most recent cycle after mc no BFP and had a leutal phase of 11 days, which is slightly disappointing. Currently on CD2. Hope your ttc journey is going well? Can I ask how you managed to get the progesterone after two MC, my GP won’t even consider until I’ve had 3 when she said she would refer to specialist . So I feel a bit hopeless - I do believe there could be a connection between the leutal phase length and the two miscarriages I’ve had.

GlassLily · 26/04/2021 03:44

@Slk3558 thanks for the reply! I am still plodding along, we've passed the year mark now.

I started out on 200mg progesterone daily which got me to 12DPO, so my doctor doubled it to 400mg in the hope of getting to 14DPO. I can still only get to 13DPO then start bleeding, even if I'm still taking the progesterone. This seems wrong to me, but the specialist says he doesn't want to increase the dosage any further and says it's impossible for me to be progesterone deficient on that dosage.

Just finished third cycle on progesterone. Had 1 "maybe" CP with a v v v faint line. It was nothing like my other MCs though. After that I started on aspirin also, which is another "won't hurt, might help" drug suggested by the specialist.

In terms of getting a referral, I'm afraid I can't help - I live overseas so it's straightforward to get a referral and I have been seeing a specialist since the 6 month ttc mark (I have to pay though).

It's nice and reassuring to be able to see a specialist, knowing I couldn't have in the UK. I really feel for you, not being able to get progesterone. In reality though, it's not a magic solution. It's a whole load of guesswork and trial and error. Even the progesterone may not really do much.

My specialist said as we are conceiving, our only real treatment option now is IVF, where the embryos are screened - so now it's just a waiting game to see how long we want to keep trying before going down that very invasive and expensive route.

GlassLily · 26/04/2021 04:06

@Slk3558 I'm so sorry about your miscarriages. Have you tried B complex? I am a bit convinced that is really helpful. It got me my first and second BFP but at the time I didn't realise how important it was, and I stopped taking it or reduced the dosage and then miscarried.

acaciabluebell · 26/04/2021 10:59

Hey everyone, I have an LP of 11 days usually. I took 100mg of B6 daily last cycle to try and lengthen my LP, but then it dropped further to 9ish days! 😣 I don't understand why this happened!

Apple35 · 30/04/2021 01:10

I had a short luteal phase on average of 9 to 10 days (sometimes shorter) and conceived after 6 months.
I tried reflexology and fertility meditations.

Slk3558 · 30/04/2021 21:46

@GlassLily I really hope you get your BFP soon which sticks.

I do take a high dose vitamin B complex supplement, that also got me my BFP after 4 months of trying with a short leutal phase, I still miscarried though, twice in a row now and now I’m on cycle 2 after my 2nd mc. I will keep plodding on as well. I’ve bought some progesterone cream but I’m scared to use it! I’ve ordered a private progesterone blood test online which I plan to take on 7dpo which should hopefully give me an idea of my progesterone levels!

Slk3558 · 30/04/2021 21:48

@acaciabluebell Try a high dose vitamin B complex tablet, aparantly vitamin b 6 works best in complex form with vit b12 etc.

Holland and barret busy B times release is really good it’s got vitamin C 500mg and 100mg B6 as well as all the other vitamin Bs. I believe that helped me get my BFP the first time around.
