Can CoQ10 delay ovulation?

meerkatmummy · 18/02/2020 23:49

Been ttc #2 for 8 months. Friend recommended coq10 after she got pregnant on her second cycle using it.

My cycles are 25/26 days, opks usually start getting darker from cd12, with peak cd13/14. This is my first month taking coq10, currently cd14 with no sign of any ovulation yet. Opks are soooo faint still.

Any advise/success stories taking this, and can it delay ovulation?

@NW2021 I'm exactly the same. Always pretty regular and have never in my life had to wait so long to come on. I only started taking them because I've had two miscarriages and tests haven't shown any issues so thought I will do all I can to improve my eggs in the hope I have a successful pregnancy next time.
The same as you, it's the only thing that has changed so guessing it must be them.
I really hope you fall pregnant soon ❤️ but yes, if you can't let me know if your cycle is back to normal that would be lovely. Thank you so much for replying.
Hopefully you don't get your period next month though. X

LadyBird2020 · 02/02/2021 20:18

@NW2021 sorry, could I ask how much you took as well please? X

NW2021 · 02/02/2021 20:26

@LadyBird2020
I’d read that they really helped people with conceiving so thought why not, it all helps I suppose! I only ordered a months worth to try it see how I got on, haven’t ordered any more now. I was taking one capsule which was 400mg (I think) daily.

LadyBird2020 · 02/02/2021 20:29

@NW2021 thank you. I've only taken around a months worth too. The post I read with really positive results said minimum 600mg and most people who had the best results of falling pregnant took 900mg. So that's what I was taking. Won't take anything from now on.
Wishing you all the luck in the world for your positive pregnancy test soon. ❤️ x

NW2021 · 03/02/2021 07:50

@LadyBird2020 yeah I read that one! 600mg would be so expensive! I thought I’d try 400 see if there was any difference. I’m only on 4th month of trying, so I think I would try them again in the future but for now just going to see how it goes without.

Thank you, hope you get that bfp soon! 🤍

I am currently experiencing this exact same issue so it was helpful to see you all commenting on this. Do you have any updates on when your cycle went back to normal? I have only been taking it for one month and am surprised it has impacted my cycle so much. Thanks!

Katie567 · 12/07/2021 17:32

@meerkatmummy hello, i'm having the same issue with delayed ovulation. Just wondering if you continued to take it and if you were successful?

OneDay86 · 30/08/2021 12:13

I had the same experience with this! Started taking CoQ10 to help with egg quality as I’m 35 and had been trying for a year to get pregnant with no luck. I usually ovulate day 13/14 but after taking CoQ10 this was delayed to day 16. I was intrigued to see if my period would be pushed back too… but it never came and to my shock I got a BFP at 9dpo! Unfortunately I did miscarry last month at 9 weeks, but I’d never gotten pregnant before so I guess at least I got a bit further this time and shows I can actually conceive. No idea whether taking the CoQ10 that cycle made the difference in conceiving…. But we’re just about to start TTC again and I’m going to start taking it I think, see what happens. Fingers crossed for everyone

Mnu · 28/10/2022 02:49

Hey hun!! Any idea for how long one have to take this ubiquinol? I mean for 3 months (90 dsys) or just from AF till ovulation in each cycle

HopefulMamma23 · 16/08/2023 10:27

Old thread but then I found it when I was searching so I thought I'd add my experience. I first tried coenzyme q10 at 400mg daily. I thought it did help w my fatigue (I have a chronic condition) but noticed a really long cycle with ovulation delayed. Longest I've had since using natural cycles app for 1.5yrs. Normally ovulate day 18-21 so already later than average. I ended up ovulating day 32 so really long cycle with my usual 11 day luteal phase. I wasn't sure re Coenzyme impact and wondered if it was stress related. I stopped it anyway and next month had really short cycle, ovulating day 10! I thought it's kind of averages out to two normal cycles. I am now getting nervous re fertility at my age so decided to really follow the evidence based supplements form "it's all about the egg" book. I started 600mg (200mg tds) of co enzyme from Nature's Best. I ended up with a FIFTY DAY cycle!! Interesting if higher dose has further delayed cycle as in drug trials a dose related response is evidence of impact. Obviously could be another coincidence but reassuring seeing what others have said. Disappointing as I hoped it would improve egg quality and now feels like it will do more harm :( I think more research is needed. Maybe it is good for certain women but not all. I'm continuing to take NAC & eat lots of antioxidant rich foods.

Orlahoping · 16/08/2023 11:54

@HopefulMamma23 I just wanted to say I have also found it to lengthen my cycles - and they were pretty regular before. I am going to stop taking it

HopefulMamma23 · 16/08/2023 12:53

Thanks @Orlahoping for your reply. Seemed worth adding to thread as it's the only place I've done any reference to this.

Can I ask by how much did it seem to length your cycle? I'm curious too if you had a cycle on the longer side already? Maybe it doesn't help them. I've emailed Rebecca Fett the author of Its All about the egg and included a link to this thread. I know it really could be coincidence esp as maybe those of us taking it are potentially more likely to have some "risk factor" for becoming irregular eg in my case age. But If it can improve egg quality it is acting in some way on ovaries so maybe different effect on different people. Kinda gutted it's then not an option for improving egg quality..Tempted to take it at 100mg just once a week so the overall levels are not low but maybe that's daft.

Thanks again for replying. I hope your cycle reverts to normal next month.

MoonlightDreamer · 16/08/2023 13:40

I haven't experienced any delay in ovulation.
I doubt the q10 had anything to do with your friend getting pregnant the following cycle , meerly a coincidence id say since it takes around 3-4 months to improve egg quality . The process begins long before , several months before you ovulate. The egg that you ovulate this cycle will have been maturing for several months

Orlahoping · 16/08/2023 14:17

@HopefulMamma23 for me it was a 5 day delay in Ovulation but then my luteal phase seemed the same length as normal. Cycles went from 28 - 33 days

KJ00 · 16/08/2023 15:10

Takes several months just like sperm so unlikely it was q10 that got her pregnant

ChunkyDingo · 18/09/2023 22:41

I have only been taking ubiquinol for a few weeks, so it didn’t delay my ovulation but my period is delayed. My cycle is normally around 25-26 days and I’m on CD 34. This is highly unusual for me and I’m worried it will interfere with my upcoming IVF cycle. 😕

Sierra26 · 02/01/2024 07:36

Hi all, adding my experience as I came searching for this exact thing…

I usually get LH peak on day 12, and presume ovulation on day 13 (confirmed with bbt).

TTC 1.5 years and started a few supplements this cycle.

Coq10 (just 100mg)
Infolic Alpha
Optibac

Its now cd15 and still no sign of lh peak so I’m searching for reasons ovulation might be delayed, and wondering if Coq10 could be the culprit…

cherrytomato1 · 25/03/2024 19:35

I'm also adding my current experience.

Starting taking coq10 after my cycle ended, I usually get a peak OPK day 12 or 13, I am really regular with my cycle.

I am now cycle day 18 and still no OPK!
I have stopped taking it.
Don't have great gut feeling with it.

I am going to focus on healthy diet and exercise instead, rather than something synthetic and man made.

When did you ovulate that cycle?

Has your cycle returned to normal now?

I have a feeling my period will be later than usual.

ByKindExpert · 21/05/2024 01:43

I’ve experienced the same. My cycles were like clockwork for the last 18 years of having a period. As soon as I started taking Coq10, my ovulation became delayed and experienced spotting mid-cycle. Completely stuffed my cycles up. I’ve stopped them now and I’m hoping my cycles go back to normal. I’m very worried I’ve caused more damage than good, and that it may take a while to go back to how my cycles were… I’ve looked at Premom and there has been multiple women who have experienced the exact same. I’ll add (anonymous) screenshots to my post!

Just wanted to come back to update here. I became pregnant shortly after contributing to this post (which happened to end in an MMC :(). I started taking ubiquonol rather than COQ10 after that and didn't find it upset my cycle. Just something for others to bear in mind. I am now also pregnant again, but it's early days 🤞

MidwestMomma · 18/07/2024 02:39

Hi just adding my two cents here - I’m 32yo and I’ve been taking coq10 ubiquinol for a month now and my cycles are usually 25-26 days ovulating day 13-14 consistently. I am now on CD14 with the lowest LH tests I’ve ever gotten and no ovulation in sight. I’m terrified of a late ovulation and what that means for my luteal phase / egg quality. I hope more research takes place to truly understand the impact of coq10 ubiquinol on cycles.

Mama09876 · 18/07/2024 06:51

Just wanted to quickly add I had commented back in 2021 regarding taking Coq10 (400 mg) although it did lengthen my cycle slightly, the month after I took it I did fall pregnant! I would consider taking it again to improve egg quality.

ScarlettSloth · 13/08/2024 10:32

Just read through this whole thread. I started taking CoQ10 at the end of June. Didn’t track my cycle in July as I had chicken pox (joy) around the week I was meant to be ovulating. This month I ovulated 4 days later than usual and my luteal phase is usually 2 weeks which means I am not 1 day later than that (5 days later than my normal cycle). The only thing I can put it down to is CoQ10. Think I’m going to stop taking it and rather have normal cycles.
