Can CoQ10 delay ovulation?

meerkatmummy · 18/02/2020 23:49

Been ttc #2 for 8 months. Friend recommended coq10 after she got pregnant on her second cycle using it.

My cycles are 25/26 days, opks usually start getting darker from cd12, with peak cd13/14. This is my first month taking coq10, currently cd14 with no sign of any ovulation yet. Opks are soooo faint still.

Any advise/success stories taking this, and can it delay ovulation?

Following this with interest as I also started taking this last cycle and my ovulation was delayed by 2 or 3 days. Wasn’t sure if it was just a coincidence or because of this!

meerkatmummy · 19/02/2020 07:58

@MrsB25 oh this makes me worry a bit less! Hopefully some more people will join the thread with positive experiences with it!

I’ve just started taking Ubiquinol so I’m also interested to hear any stories. I ovulate normally on CD11, I don’t think it will do anything this month but maybe next month if will delay by a couple of days.

Trying2019 · 19/02/2020 18:49

I think they made my cycle longer but its hard to tell as i started taking them a month after coming off the pill. I ovulated day 32 one cycle. I now ovulate day 18 and no longer take them. Too scared to try other tablets in case it messes me up again xx

claireb707 · 19/02/2020 19:02

Interesting as I've been taking them for about a month and I'm due to ovulate tomorrow - cd18 whereas I normally ovulate about day 14/15

meerkatmummy · 20/02/2020 08:52

I'm CD16 today and still no sign of ovulation. Opks are very faint! Usually ovulate CD14/15

Just to update.. I stopped taking coq10 this month and had a peak this afternoon (day 16) which was 3 days earlier than last month when taking it. So for me I definitely think it made my ovulation later!

meerkatmummy · 03/03/2020 21:57

@MrsB25 I ended up ovulating CD18 - so 3/4 days latter then usually! Currently 10DPO and holding off testing until af is late as this is cycle 9 now and the bfns every month are so disheartening! Where about a in your cycle are you now? X

@MrsB25 totally didn't read your message properly!! So ovulation day today? X

Hi @meerkatmummy yeah I think I will have ovulated Tuesday so in the TWW now, I hate it!! Have you managed to hold out and not test still? So sorry that you’ve been waiting 9 cycles, this is only our third cycle trying and it’s already disheartening so it must be even more so for you. Fingers crossed this is your month!!

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 05/03/2020 07:56

I'm also deciding to come off Ubiquinol(the higher strength version of coq10) as my IVF cycle just got cancelled due to delayed follicle growth so would have been delayed ovulation x

paintfairy · 05/03/2020 09:04

I'm not sure delaying ovulation is necessarily bad? It's meant to improve egg quality. So what if the reason its delayed is because its waiting until the egg is in a better position to be released?

Not sure like - but faster isn't necessarily better.....

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 05/03/2020 10:36

@paintfairy
My IVF clinic has said slow isn't good either as you will then have a shorter luteul phase after ovulation and before your period starts (just because you ovulate later doesn't mean that your period starts later) and in which case the uterine environment becomes less hospitable and can prevent an embryo implanting

paintfairy · 05/03/2020 10:40

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted usually the luteal phase never alters? Mine is 15 days whatever happens. If my cycle length alters, its because I ovulated later.

There's slow and slow? Obviously if you are having 50 day cycles, that's no good. But a couple of days isn't going to make much difference. Quality over quantity I suspect is better, rather than us just being in a rush.

I've found this. Which is along the lines I was thinking. I ovulate day 11. So anything delaying mine a few days would actually be a good thing. Not bad.

mommybear1 · 05/03/2020 13:24

I take Ubiquinol due to my age for egg quality never had a problem/delay with ovulation- I don't know if cq10 would cause a delay.

Emmie12345 · 08/09/2020 12:45

I have been taking q10 for about 6 weeks and I am on cd42 ! I have never had such a delayed period (usually 27 days ) so i am def going to stop taking it !!

Shannonx20 · 09/10/2020 23:29

I started taking coq10 last week and my ovulation day should be tomoro or sunday 13/14 and no sign of it yet!!

LadyBird2020 · 02/02/2021 09:27

Hi, I have been taking Coq10 for the last month. I usually have my period between 25-28 days. It is now day 30, which is unusual for me. So I have stopped taking coq10. Can I ask how long it took for your cycle to return to normal once you stopped taking them please?

NW2021 · 02/02/2021 09:49

Hey! I took a CoQ10 for a month from mid Dec and my Jan cycle was longer, the only reason I could think was because of the supplements. I’m normally 27-28 and my cycle went to 31 days. Not to much of a difference but because of lengthy cycle it did push my ovulation forward by a few days.
I’ve stopped taking them now.

kennetrose · 02/02/2021 10:15

I've been taking CoQ10 since October and haven't noticed a difference in my cycles. My FP always varies a bit - shortest I've detected was 13 days, longest since I've tracked is 17 days but I suspect it's been longer in the past given my LP is a consistent 8 days. There doesn't seem to be a correlation with supplements I take.

It's normal for your FP to vary by a few days. I asked my doctor and she said that follicles have different levels of sensitivity and respond differently to your hormones and it's kind of random and nothing to worry about. Happens to some women more than others.

CoQ10 improves the quality of your eggs. Eggs start maturing about 3 months before they're ovulated so CoQ10 needs 3 months for its effect to be felt. If this is your first month on CoQ10 then your late ovulation likely isn't related to that and is just random.

There is a lot of evidence supporting the use of CoQ10 when TTC (and especially if you do IVF). If it causes your ovulation to shift to a day or two later in the long run it's probably because it's helping you produce better quality eggs. Not a bad thing.

LadyBird2020 · 02/02/2021 18:12

@NW2021 Thank you so much for responding. I starting taking them last month, this will be my first period since taking them and is later than normal. I know I'm 100% not pregnant and it's unusual for me to be this late.
Even after both my MCs, I was pretty regular. So it is good to know I'm not alone.
Have your cycles returned to normal now you've stopped taking them?

LadyBird2020 · 02/02/2021 18:13

@kennetrose thank you for your message. It's really helpful.
My periods are usually between 25-27 days. Even after both my miscarriages, it was only 31-35 days for the first period afterwards so for me to now been on day 30 and no sign of my period it is very odd and taking the supplements have been my only change.

NW2021 · 02/02/2021 19:54

@LadyBird2020 I know from what the other post says it can take a while for it to have an effect but it was so weird last month my AF and cycle that it’s the only thing I did different. It’s strange that I’ve heard lots of people say they have taken it and it’s extended their cycle.
I’ve not been on the pill for years & years and my cycle is normally always on the day my app says, I’m like clock work 😂

Last period was only 2 weeks ago, I stopped taking them probably the week I came on. I’m hoping this month I get pregnant but if that’s not the case I’ll let you know how my cycle/AF is this month x

thislittlebird · 02/02/2021 20:02

I’m pleased to have read this. I just ordered ubiquinol and I don’t really need a later ovulation as it’s already on day 17/18. If it gets delayed when I start taking them I guess I’ll know why, but hopefully not.
