Getting pregnant after Mirena removal

Hello,

I had my coil removed 6 days ago. Just wondering if anyone can share any stories of when they have conceived after having theirs removed?

OP posts:
SunlightBlazing · 20/05/2020 11:26

For my second, I got my mirena out and was pregnant 8 weeks later

watermelonwizard · 20/05/2020 11:48

@SunlightBlazing oh wow! Thanks for sharing. You hear a lot of negatives so it’s nice to hear the positives too. X

SunlightBlazing · 20/05/2020 12:05

@watermelonwizard I thought that too, so I said I'd pop mine in :D Anecdotally, I've also had friends who've had it out and were pregnant 2-3 months afterwards, so there are some good stories out there too

Dowermouse · 20/05/2020 12:10

I had mine out and gave birth 10 months 1 day later at 42+3. When I'd previously asked, I was told that the lining of my uterus would be "just peachy" to try ttc straight away after removal.

beautifulmonument · 20/05/2020 12:17

I got pregnant on my first ovulation after having my Mirena removed so within just a few weeks.

nyedry · 20/05/2020 12:18

I had mine removed 12th Nov 2019, a few days of light bleeding after removal and I'm currently 24 weeks.
Was very surprised that it happened so quickly as we were expecting it to take a while judging by what I had read online.

ginsparkles · 20/05/2020 12:19

Had mine out and 8 months later I hadn't had a single period. I was referred for medical intervention to restart my periods. That was 9 years ago.

I had another in after my DD was born. That was removed over a year ago now and I still have no periods. I was regular as clockwork before the mirena.

watermelonwizard · 20/05/2020 14:04

wow thank you all for sharing. it really does give me hope and make me feel very positive about the prospect of becoming pregnant soon!

@ginsparkles that's awful, sorry to hear you've been through that. I have heard a lot of stories where the mirena wreaks havoc with your menstrual cycles. I am one of the lucky ones in that respect as I had an AF a few days later, I was concerned it was removal bleeding but I don't think so as I had nothing for the first few days then a quite heavy (compared to what they were like on the mirena) bleed for 2-3 days after which is typical of my AFs pre mirena.

Like I say I am now tracking ovulation which is predicted to happen at the weekend so I have my fingers crossed (impatient I know!)

Thank you to everyone who shared their story :)

ginsparkles · 20/05/2020 14:18

@watermelon Good luck!

monkeybean10 · 20/05/2020 16:10

Congratulations 🎊

Hello all,

My first post on this group! Thanks to you all for sharing your stories and congratulations to those of you who had a BFP! 😍

I'm due to get my Mirena coil removed on Friday - all fingers and toes crossed - and then TTC shortly after! So it was really reassuring to find this post! 😃

I only joined Mumsnet the other day too, so I'm in a whirl of acronyms and information! 😂

Thanks again and good luck to everyone! 😘

flissity · 21/05/2020 03:52

Another positive experience -

I had a M Coil in for 5yrs then 3 (consecutively)

I had it removed in Early July and was pregnant by the start of Sept.

Now 39+2... with DC3

InkogKneeToe · 21/05/2020 04:38

First cycle, literally took a week. Textbook pregnancy, no issues at all.

watermelonwizard · 21/05/2020 08:13

@M4v3r1ck welcome!! Aw I had mine out last week (13th) and was obsessed reading all of the stories (mostly negative) about TTC after mirena, so made a mumsnet account and I feel so much better now! Ps if you’re nervous about the removal like I was, don’t be! It really was ok and nothing like insertion. I’m now tracking my ovulation like a mad woman to see when it happens. I had AF a few days afterwards so hoping to ovulate soon. Good luck and keep us updated!!

@flissity thank you for sharing! Wow not long to go now! How are you feeling?!

@InkogKneeToe amazing, thank you for sharing! X

monkeybean10 · 21/05/2020 08:30

Can anyone recommend decent tests? I bought a pack of 3 Clearblue early digital ones and only 1 of them worked!! Bit annoyed for the price of them!

M4v3r1ck · 21/05/2020 20:57

Amazing, thank you so much, ladies! 😃

Just hoping all ok tomorrow, especially with the COVID situation! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 Was honestly shocked when I got the call to say they were opening appointments again, after it was cancelled a few weeks ago - was expecting to wait months!

You're right, I need to remember all will be fine! 😃 I'm fully expecting a bit of jiggery pokery like the last time, but as long as it gets out! 🙈😂

laura214 · 21/05/2020 21:08

Please can I join? I had my Mirena moved end of March and a 3 days period beginning of May, will see what happens this month!

Wannabemummy25 · 21/05/2020 21:44

Following this for information as this will be this time next year! I don't want to have mine removed until next summer due to some work commitments that being pregnant would mess up! I'd rather enjoy being pregnant without worrying about work so waiting until next year! Seems so far away when I just want to have it removed now!

watermelonwizard · 22/05/2020 08:09

@monkeybean10 I have no advice sorry as June will be my first test (in almost 10 years!) but I have bought the first response ones after reading good reviews!

@M4v3r1ck exact same here with the appointment, was so shocked when they phoned me on a Monday to come in the Wednesday! Good luck today, it’s the start of the next chapter! Let us know! (It’ll be fine!)

@laura214 of course, welcome! Quite new here too! Had my coil out 13th this month, had a period 2 days later and according to my app I am in the first day of my fertile window...I will be doing an opk test today too. Are you going to track your ovulation or go with the flow?

@Wannabemummy25 hello!! Aww it’ll fly by. I decided to take mine out at the end of 2018 and also had to time it right with work etc. It’ll be nice for you to read some (hopefully!) positive stories to put you in a good frame of mind for your time! X

gk35 · 22/05/2020 08:18

Hi all, I'm going to hop onto this thread too. I had mine removed on 1st April, I had a few days spotting on 18th April then ovulated in early May. My cycle is now on day 35, no period but all pregnancy tests have been negative. I do think it takes a while to get your regular period back after IUD but glad I've had a positive ovulation test!

watermelonwizard · 22/05/2020 17:05

hello @gk35 ! hope your cycle evens itself out soon. I had mine out last Weds (13th) had AF start on the 16th! I am tracking ovulation now to see if my body is back to normal yet....all opk tests have been negative so far but I am only on CD7. My cycles are only 24 days long usually, so we shall see! good luck to you and look forward to hearing your progress Smile

M4v3r1ck · 22/05/2020 18:23

@watermelonwizard amazing glad you got fitted in too! 😍

All went without a hitch! Was worried for nothing! Relaxing with a chippy and some Netflix now! 😈

Great to hear that your cycles all normalised fairly quickly! Good luck and keep us posted! 😘

watermelonwizard · 27/05/2020 08:14

@M4v3r1ck I'm so glad it went well. How are you feeling now?

I am on CD12 (I bled 2 days after the removal, was due AF around then so counting it as AF) and have been testing for ovulation every day for a while now and all negative. It is bumming me out a bit, which I know is crazy as it's only 2 weeks today I had the thing removed. It's just that I usually have short cycles and 'should have' ovulated by now. But hey, we go on tomorrow!

How are you all getting on?

watermelonwizard · 27/05/2020 08:15

ps, belated welcome @laura214 ! keep us updated with your progress, fingers crossed for you! How long did it take for you to ovulate after removal do you know? X

laura214 · 27/05/2020 10:29

@watermelonwizzard I'm not sure tbh, if going by CM it was some point last week but I haven't been testing! Just 'going with the flow' at the moment to see how it all works! Fingers crossed you show signs ovulation soon, what are you using to test?
