Soy isoflavones

Anyone else doing a cycle with soy isoflavones at the moment? Or have success stories?
I'm CD3 and started them last night. Will be doing CD2-6.
I have PCOS and my last cycle was 4 months long with no ovulation. I'd had a few regular cycles before that and hoping soy isoflavones will help me ovulate again!
We've been TTC#3 for nearly 2 years and had 3 early losses. Willing to try anything at this point!

Hi @NoseringGirl I don’t have a positive story to add (yet) but I am taking them too. Started on CD3 and today is cycle day 5.

This is my third month of taking them in the first month I took them days 5-9 and only had a 20 day cycle. Last month I took them days 3-7 and had the most ‘normal’ cycle I’ve had in months. I ovulated on CD16 and had a 14 day luteal phase (previously 11).

I don’t have any diagnosed issues but my cycles have been all over the place and this is my 16th month TTC so thought I’d give these a go before heading to the doctor. I’ve read really good things from women who had been trying for years and then got pregnant using soy iso’s so fingers crossed 🤞

NoseringGirl · 08/02/2020 14:04

Hi @Waiting2BAMummy that sounds quite positive! Hope it helps my cycles in the same way!
Best wishes for this cycle, let me know how you get on!

Have you had your thyroid checked? NHS will offer you investigation + clomid + ovarian drilling if they rule out everything else. That’s what happened to me after ttc N3 for 1.5 years. For me it was very quick from GP referral to ovarian drilling in 4-5 months, could have been faster if I was more proactive at some steps. Not sure of the drilling helped or the fact that my thyroid meds were increased, but got pregnant 3 months after drilling with ovulation on cd37, but I was ovulating before operation as well, always late in my cycle. Even during the drilling they could see recent ovulation from one ovary. So I tend to believe it was my thyroid that was stopping things, not pcos. So I would strongly advise to rule out other things and get on with a professional advice. You never know what else you may have, I had a bit of endo which they removed. And taking soy you may get things worse with pcos.

Worriedmum97 · 08/02/2020 14:24

I also had 2 chemical pregnancies during these 4-5 months in between GP referral and operation, again makes me think it was thyroid

Worriedmum97 · 08/02/2020 14:29

GP was also very happy to give me metformin, again not sure if it had any impact but I took it for 1.5 years. I’m slim, no issues with glucose, etc.

Worriedmum97 · 08/02/2020 14:34

So in a nut shell my advice is just go and get everything checked for you, it’s free and was very quick where I live. They even give you deadlines for each step (like get your tubes checked within 45 days, have cd3-5 bloods within 30 days, otherwise they send you back to GP).

Waiting2BAMummy · 08/02/2020 14:36

Thanks @NoseringGirl you too x

NoseringGirl · 08/02/2020 15:58

@Worriedmum97 my GP has given me metformin again as it helped when I was TTC#2. That was a year ago. I've also been in after each of my 3 chemicals and they keep saying it's bad luck and to just keep trying. I've had blood tests which included my thyroid but they won't do anything else as I already have two children.

Worriedmum97 · 08/02/2020 16:53

@NoseringGirl I have two kids as well, my GP wasn’t sure if they can refer me to fertility clinic, but filled in a form and sent it. The clinic was happy to see me. Yes, injections/insemination/ivf they were clear they wouldn’t do for free, but bloods, hsg, sperm, exploratory laparoscopy with drilling, clomid monitoring was all available within a short timeframe. Maybe try to press a bit.

Worriedmum97 · 08/02/2020 17:00

After my second chemical GP did run a panel of tests for blood clotting, etc. all was normal. When trying to ttc the second another GP was happy to run initial tests like bloods, sperm. If you don’t get much luck with hospital referral and have some money you can maybe go private for hsg and clomid monitoring (clomid itself is very cheap and my nhs only does 1 scan on cd12 to make sure there are not too many folicules and then progesterone on cd21 to see if you ovulated.

Worriedmum97 · 08/02/2020 20:50

And my endo said that your TSH should be

GreenShades · 27/02/2020 19:22

@NoseringGirl hey, I wanted to know how you got on? I'm thinking to start Soy so loot for some advice.

NoseringGirl · 27/02/2020 19:50

@GreenShades I think I'm about 3-4DPO based on my temps, trying not to get my hopes up but looking good so far. I've been at the GP today and I'm actually getting a progesterone blood test on Monday to confirm whether I've ovulated so will update then!

paintfairy · 05/03/2020 17:41

I've thought about trying this too.....

GreenShades · 05/03/2020 20:14

@NoseringGirl congratulations!!! I'm so glad it worked out for you! I have been trying for 2 years+ and nowhere close. I am sometimes a few days late for period but then it always turns up. I have been diagnosed with unexplained so I don't know how it will work for me. I have been turned down today for IVF due to my husband not being a British citizen.

I brought these last month but have not used them yet. I will start them next month and see what happens.

Please could you tell us what days you took them and the dose on each day?

Thank you.

NoseringGirl · 05/03/2020 20:29

@GreenShades I'm sorry to hear what a tough time you've been having, especially the reason you've been turned down for IVF. That's very frustrating!
I took them CD2-6 and did 200mg a day as apparently it's meant to be double the dose of clomid you'd take and I'd previously ovulated and conceived on 100mg clomid.

Congratulations @NoseringGirl.

I’ve used them for 3 months now and been unsuccessful and having really light AF where it’s normally really heavy. I think they must be thining my lining.

I need to lose some weight so am taking a couple of months off to give my body a break from the soy isoflavones and to lose some lbs.

Not sure what the plan is after that.

Wishing you a happy and healthy nine months.

paintfairy · 05/03/2020 21:17

@NoseringGirl do you think it was the soy isoflavones that did it? Congratulations!

NoseringGirl · 05/03/2020 21:44

@Waiting2BAMummy thanks and all the best to you!

@paintfairy I'm honestly not sure, I've been steadily losing weight for a long time which will no doubt have helped but the soy was the main thing I did differently this month!

AnxiousAnnie86 · 28/05/2020 05:58

Congratulations @noseringgirl I am
Starting soy iso today after a year of trying, I'm quite worried about possible side effects, I'm taking as I can ovulate anywhere from cd17 to cd32, anyone else out there trying this month x

NoseringGirl · 28/05/2020 08:02

@cupcakesandglitter thank you!! I'm 16 weeks now, it's going so quickly! How's things with you?

@AnxiousAnnie86 all the best for this cycle!
