Pull out method

I’m still newish to mumsnet but wanted to change my name.

I’ve got 3 kids ages 7 4 and 6 months. I met my husband at 20 and we have always used pull out without any problems so 8 years ( we stopped using it when we tried for our babies ) I’m now 3 days late for my period. I don’t feel pregnant nor feel like I’m about to have my period

Has anyone fallen pregnant on it? Even with perfect use?

It's impossible to use that method perfectly. If you are usually regular with your periods then you may want to buy a pregnancy test.

Strangerthingshere · 18/01/2020 13:00

You cant give this method of contraception perfect use because it's not actually a method of contraception 🤦‍♀️

Strangerthingshere · 18/01/2020 13:00

So buy a test

Whome91 · 18/01/2020 13:01

From experience with my pregnancy’s it’s not until 5+ days I test positive so don’t want to test yet as I could get a falsie negative.

You can’t use it perfectly. I suspect millions of babies have been conceived using this ‘method’

Strangerthingshere · 18/01/2020 13:05

Well guess you have to wait and see then for a few days, but yes it's absolutely possible but 3 days also isn't overly late unless you're extremely regular? Hope you get the result you want

Danni91 · 18/01/2020 13:06

Yeah. Pregnant now because I was an idiot too Grin

tealandseagreen · 18/01/2020 13:06

Yep! 11 weeks 1 day!

Mumof1andacat · 18/01/2020 13:08

The pull out method is not a form of contraception

Whome91 · 18/01/2020 13:14

The ones that are pregnant. Is that due to not pulling out in time ? Or pulling out just before? He pulls out long before

Wolfiefan · 18/01/2020 13:16

Doesn’t matter. If you don’t want to fall pregnant then use actual contraception.

amber763 · 18/01/2020 13:18

Yeah that's not a method of contraception

BreakfastAtLitanies · 18/01/2020 13:18

Pull out method isn't contraception. So yes, you could be pregnant if you've been having sex with no contraception.

EarlGreyT · 18/01/2020 13:21

It’s not a method of contraception. There is no such thing as “perfect use” as you can’t have perfect use of something which isn’t contraception. Many people will fall pregnant with it as it isn’t a contraceptive method. If you don’t want to fall pregnant, use something which is actually contraception.

Whome91 · 18/01/2020 13:29

So I have tried two iuds ( both fell out of me) an implant ( fell pregnant but had a miscarriage) and all different types of pills all have caused bleeding and mood swings. My only opinion is permanent but am 28 so that’s out of the question. Planned parenthood lists it contraception. With perfect and typical use.

Perfect use presumably means where there is no pre-ejeculate. I'm not sure how you're supposed to manage that.

Anyway, yes you could be pregnant. Suggest you take a test at some point and consider your options.

Palavah · 18/01/2020 13:33

Also, the link you just posted tells you how many people get pregnant using this method so not sure why you're surprised!

Wolfiefan · 18/01/2020 13:46

Condoms aren’t permanent. Confused

NC4THISandTHAT · 18/01/2020 13:53

@Whome91 have you not heard of pre cum?

gelert5619 · 18/01/2020 14:00

Sperm is released when the man has an erection, this is part of the lubrication/pre cum so no matter how much in control he is to pull out, there's a high risk of pregnancy.

roiseandjim · 18/01/2020 14:03

I can't use any hormonal contraception as I am a hormonal bitch. Me and my husband don't want a baby so we use condoms. No condoms no sex. I would never ever trust the pull out method.

myidentitymycrisis · 18/01/2020 14:03

I don't believe any method is 100% failsafe

heartsonacake · 18/01/2020 14:05

1 in 5 who do this get pregnant.

It is not a method of contraception and there is no such thing as “perfect use”.

BecauseReasons · 18/01/2020 14:10

Some men leak sperm into their pre-ejaculate (fluid released prior to orgasm). Fewer of said sperm will be motile than they would be in actual ejaculate, so the chance of pregnancy is lower, but there is still a chance. Unfortunately, without actually checking a sample of pre-ejaculate for sperm, you won't know if your partner is one of the men who 'leak' or not, so it's a bit of a gamble.
