Pull out method

I’m still newish to mumsnet but wanted to change my name.

I’ve got 3 kids ages 7 4 and 6 months. I met my husband at 20 and we have always used pull out without any problems so 8 years ( we stopped using it when we tried for our babies ) I’m now 3 days late for my period. I don’t feel pregnant nor feel like I’m about to have my period

Has anyone fallen pregnant on it? Even with perfect use?

Actually it unusual for there to be sperm in pre cum.
Op we used condoms during my fertile period and nothing on green days. Worked for four year until we stopped to conceive.

Northernsoullover · 18/01/2020 14:11

I used this method. The result is almost 17.

Grumbley · 18/01/2020 14:11

I can't believe people still believe that this works, cripes. No, it isn't a reliable form of contraception. It might lower the chances, but is not comparable to using actual contraception.

firstimemamma · 18/01/2020 14:13

When i couldn't take the pill for about a year, we used condoms.

Crocky · 18/01/2020 14:22

I use this method for a couple of years. The end result of doing so is now 19 😂

Whome91 · 18/01/2020 14:44

I’m aware it’s far from perfect. I don’t like condoms and I’d rather not have sex. I’m also not stupid in the fact that if I was pregnant again I would try something else again. The way I see it both me and my husband know the risks and are still willing to use it so it’s good. One thing I don’t agree with is it’s as bad as some would say.

Not sure what this means.

Great. So hopefully you’re pregnant. Congratulations.

firstimemamma · 18/01/2020 14:57

We don't like condoms either, I don't think anyone actually does.

Strangerthingshere · 18/01/2020 15:11

I dont either but prefer it to the alternative

Wolfiefan · 18/01/2020 15:58

You’d rather not have sex? Well then you won’t need to worry? Confused
If you don’t want more kids then use an actual form of contraception. Condoms, cap etc.

ItsMischerWavy · 18/01/2020 15:58

To answer your question...... Yes I've used it and yes I've fallen pregnant... Twice! One of those times I was also on the pill.

I was meant to be practically infertile but my partner apparently has super spunk!!

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 18/01/2020 16:02

God, I would be a nervous wreck if this was my method of “contraception”.

LavaLamp5566 · 18/01/2020 16:03

Everyone else has said it. Now let me shout it at you:
PULLING OUT IS NOT A METHOD OF CONTRACEPTION!!!!

Use a Condom, take morning-after pills. SAY NO
^
All forms of contraception

Fruityb · 18/01/2020 16:08

I always remember Billy Connolly saying something like “I’d like to thank the Catholic Church for the pull out method - without which I wouldn’t be here at all”

It’s not contraception.

Whome91 · 19/01/2020 01:05

Well I’m definitely not pregnant. I’ve actually talked to my husband about getting the snip so will get more information about that.

Used it for 15 years and not fallen pregnant. However, you have to be regular, know your cycle, know your body and have a fully cooperative partner. On my highly fertile days I’ll avoid sex.
So in my case, yes I have avoided falling pregnant. I seem to be a minority though

Bluerussian · 19/01/2020 01:20

It's not effective because men secrete a little bit of spermatozoa before coming. Most of the time it's OK but a lot of accidents happen. Why not use some spermicidal pessaries as well?

I hope you're not pregnant as you don't want to be. Give it a week and have a test.

Sparkle2020 · 19/01/2020 02:17

Has af came yet?

MissB83 · 19/01/2020 07:38

Yep that's how I got my son!

Whome91 · 19/01/2020 11:31

Yeah I got my period. So all good

So if you don’t want another pregnancy scare in future, act like a responsible adult and use contraception.

Pull out is not contraception. Using it is careless and stupid.

gypsywater · 19/01/2020 15:26

I've used this for 6 years and have never fallen pregnant, and have never even looked at fertile days or anything like that. So it must be a decent method as 6 years is a lot of sex?

MyEnormousTurnip · 19/01/2020 15:33

@gypsywater same here but for 11yrs. Previous five occasions of unprotected sex resulted in (planned/wanted) pregnancy so it’s not like we’re not fertile.

heartsonacake · 20/01/2020 09:49

gypsywater and MyEnormousTurnip Okay, so you’re lucky. It happens. You’re still being careless and stupid and not acting like responsible adults.

strawberrysundayss · 20/01/2020 10:04

@whome91 hi it might be worth looking into natural cycles. It's a fertility awareness method i used successful and avoids pills etc. You have to be meticulous at tracking your temp but you will know when you're fertile and so avoid sex on those days and then you're to go all other days.

It's a bit of work but in my book beats the side effects of the pill and is way more reliable than pulling out. Best wishes.
