Self insemination - Any success stories?!

Hi everyone,

I have NC'd for this to save our blushes!
DH and I have just had our first round of IVF which was sadly unsuccessful after an early miscarriage.
We have 2 frozen embryos but we would like to TTC naturally for the next 6 month's first in the hope the IVF hormones might help boost our chances.
DH has always struggled to ejaculate inside me when DTD. Therefore we have decided to try self insemination in the hope it will take away some of the stress.

I would love to hear any success stories.

Also which insemination kit did you buy?

Has anyone tried a soft cup / Ferti Lily conception cup after inserting the syringe to help things along?

Thanks everyone!

13dpo today x

I honestly can't even explain how much I would love for this little bean to stick ❤️ my mum has had such a rough time ( not going to sugar coat it but my dad was not a good man) he was mentally abusive to my mum for years, and despite numerous attempts and offers from me to help her out and get her to leave him, she never did, he as also an alcoholic.
This would be the best news EVER for her x

What DPO are you now ? What symptoms are you getting ?
To be honest I'm not getting any symptoms that I don't usually have before AF

AdriannaP · 27/07/2020 20:31

I am 15 DPO.
Really hope you can share some happy news with your mum soon! X
I felt a bit queasy yesterday and same this afternoon and had a metallic taste in my mouth. I also need to wee all the time!
With my first pregnancy my symptoms only started when I was 6 weeks.

MrsKin90 · 27/07/2020 20:34

@Carol1980 sorry to hear you dad wasn't a nice man. Bless your mum - hopefully your BFP leads to a beautiful little grandbaby to lighten up her life!

I don't often pray but I'll pray for you both Adrianna and Carol that things work out! Lush to have confirmation that the method works, also just lovely to have some positivity in life ❤️ I know it's early days yet but 🤞🤞🙏 🙏🎉

LuckyFlash · 27/07/2020 20:57

2 BFPs in a week! What a turn up for the books on this thread - congrats @Carol1980

So pleased for you both! Fingers crossed they are both sticky beans 😀

Carol1980 · 27/07/2020 21:00

@MrsKin90 that is so kind of you xx
Yeah she's going to be so much happier now, I feel terrible saying that, but she will see my daughter alllll the time now and a potentially pending grandchild would be the icing on the cake x

I felt a bit 🤢 earlier today, and my hubby told me that my butt was making some impressive noises last night 🤣 but apart from that nada !

The only thing I did different this month was to leave the sperm for 10 mins in the container, kept it at body temp by putting it between my legs, and after 10 mins I then sucked it up on to the syringe x

Other than swapping back to my pregnacare conception vitimins at the beginning of the month as I had been using the seven seas trying for a baby ones x

AdriannaP · 27/07/2020 21:18

I am (and was) taking a tesco multivitamin and folic acid. And my chinese medicine - no idea what’s in there!

Carol1980 · 27/07/2020 21:38

I would probably have gone for acupuncture soon to be honest, if this bean doesn't stick that's def something I'm going to look in to x

AdriannaP · 27/07/2020 21:44

Acupuncture can also help prevent a Mc. I still go and think it really helped me to conceive.

primrosechill · 27/07/2020 22:33

@Carol1980 what excellent news!! So awesome to see not one but two (well... more like seven looking at the number of your pregnancy tests haha) BFPs on here this month - come on all, surely we can squeeze in at least one more this cycle 🥰😊😂

Did you do anything differently this cycle? Any tips for the fellow cup & syringe friends? Haha

AdriannaP · 28/07/2020 05:34

Did another test this morning (I also need to use up all the ones I have at home!) clear line on clearblue, the internet cheapies are still very very faint. As others have said in other threads they are really not the best. If you test with the cheapies and have a faint second line, test with a FRER too.

Carol1980 · 28/07/2020 09:06

I must have a really bad batch of cheap ones right now.
Tested when I got up and like you it's barely a line there. Thankfully I've ordered some clear blue but debating whether to pick up a frer today.
God we spend a fortune on these tests don't we !! Thank god for Amazon !!

MrsKin90 · 28/07/2020 09:10

It's frustrating as I only ever buy cheap ones!! They get such good reviews most of the time but it does seem to be hit and miss on forums when people used them. If the expensive tests are showing up then there's definitely a baby bean in there!

Carol1980 · 28/07/2020 09:17

I think my biggest problem is that I need to see that the line is getting darker every couple of days when it's this early.
I've had mostly great internet cheap ones, but for some reason this batch that I have just now is seriously bad, it la like a barely there shadow, I can see a little hint of a line but if I take a photo of it, it's not showing up, that's how bad it is !
On the other hand in my mind I'm wondering if it's just my hcg levels are lowering as it's a chemical 🤷‍♀️ it's hard not to have that in the back of my mind.

I'm one of the first folk to say to people that 'yes that's def a line' when they post but don't always believe the ones I get 🤦🏼‍♀️ it's frustrating and heartbreaking at the same time.
I often hate the fact that they have tests which tell you 6 days before your missed AF as it gives such false hope. Learning your pregnant so early, when there's a good chance that it's just a chemical is not a good thing, I really wish that they hadn't come up with them x it would save a hell of a lot of heartbreak x

MrsKin90 · 28/07/2020 09:56

I've never had a bfp so I can only imagine I'd be exactly the same! However I think if you're worrying about line progression you should always use the same brand of test, and maybe avoid the cheap ones if you're getting stronger lines on clear blue etc. I get that that makes it so much more expensive but for the sake of your mental well-being it's probably worth it?
I've always hated the early tests and refuse to buy them. Other than one cycle when I went wild and tested at 10dpo, I never test before my period due date. Just try to be positive if you can. Xx

Carol1980 · 28/07/2020 10:26

@MrsKin90
Your totally right x
I've got some more clear blue on route but probably won't be in for them coming today as I'm going away overnight.

I've always found. The IC to be a massive hit or miss, this has left me a bit dissapointed right now but I'll see if morrisons has any of the clear blue that I can try x

Thanks though x I know I'm probably just over thinking everything, always the case !!
Bloody hate the whole 2ww !

AquarianSquirrel · 29/07/2020 09:24

@Carol1980 could your husband have autism/sensory issues? That can cause problems ejaculating inside someone because the tip of the penis can be very sensitive and you have less control over it whilst having sex than masturbating for instance.

Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 09:29

No, no issues with sensory and not autistic.

When he was younger his foreskin was removed ( circumcised) as it was too tight and as such the tip has lost sensitivity, it took him quite a while when he was a young kid to get used to this as you can imagine.
It's all purely in his head, the stress of our age, ( I'm 39 and he's 42), stress of performing etc.

We have been able to have sex regularly, and it's just the ED which has reared its ugly head a few times.

Hopefully I'll not need to worry for much longer about it as we might actually be pregnant

MrsKin90 · 29/07/2020 10:33

Any update on tests today? 😊

Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 11:23

I took a clear blue test mid afternoon and got the below result so still showing as positive but not very strong. Going to wait until later today and see if I can do another test. I'm technically 14dpo today x

Self insemination - Any success stories?!
Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 11:24

Sorry that should read mid morning not afternoon x

MrsKin90 · 29/07/2020 17:08

It's positive that it's still positive - could it be faint because it wasn't first morning urine or because you drank too much before testing?

Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 17:29

Possibly xx

I'll be waiting until tomorrow to take the second one in the pack x

AdriannaP · 29/07/2020 19:17

Fingers crossed @Carol1980
I am not testing anymore, as I have some early pregnancy symptoms. Unfortunately I am also spotting again 😪 spoke to a midwife today who told me there is nothing I can do. Unless spotting increases or it’s dark red they won’t see me. So it’s a waiting game really...

Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 19:23

@AdriannaP is it still light pink spotting ? And is it actually hitting a pad or h see wear or only when you wipe ? X

Hopefully like @MrsKin90 had said that some folk simply spot more during pregnancy x

Sorry I don't know if you've mentioned before do you have any other kids ?

I remember having random spotting with my daughter but I didn't take any notes on my Ovia the last time so can't be sure when it was x

Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 19:25

@AdriannaP oh and that's great about having pregnancy symptoms x what are they ? X
