Self insemination - Any success stories?!

Hi everyone,

I have NC'd for this to save our blushes!
DH and I have just had our first round of IVF which was sadly unsuccessful after an early miscarriage.
We have 2 frozen embryos but we would like to TTC naturally for the next 6 month's first in the hope the IVF hormones might help boost our chances.
DH has always struggled to ejaculate inside me when DTD. Therefore we have decided to try self insemination in the hope it will take away some of the stress.

I would love to hear any success stories.

Also which insemination kit did you buy?

Has anyone tried a soft cup / Ferti Lily conception cup after inserting the syringe to help things along?

Thanks everyone!

Everyone, thank you so, so much for such a lovely welcome. Not lying, I’m in tears. I’ve felt a bit alone the last couple of weeks trying to get my head around this.
We have sessions with a psychosexual therapist which has helped enormously-both sex and relationship wise. The therapist is the only one apart from me and husband who knows about this so finding this group today just made a weight lift off me. Like ‘I’m not alone in this’.

Thanks for all the encouragement on it not being the typical way to conceive-I’m a control freak and had pictured fairytale sex, regularly and hey ho, I’d be pregnant and all would be well! Today something switched for me and @LuckyFlash thank you for letting me know you’re finding it fun!

Chatting to husband tonight and we’re both hoping as it takes a pressure off that we can enjoy sex/foreplay for what it is and if sex happens that’s a good bonus! I’ve already told him I get an orgasm just before or after the syringe 😄

Really, thank you all so much for being kind and understanding and sharing your stories on here. I’m looking forward to sharing the journey with you all xx

@Oilyoilyoilgob awww I’m glad you found us! Honestly, I have found MumsNet to be a godsend - in the last six months, I have been stressed by vaginismus and conceiving, decided to start inseminating, been ttc, conceived, miscarried, had questions around post-MC, started ttc again... through all of this I have also found someone in a situation similar to mine on these forums - it really does make you realise that there’s no one way to make a baby and that so many people go through the ups and downs! Keep us updated on how you’re getting on and glad to hear you anf your husband already managed to find the positives of this setup!

@Lori23TTC thanks for the tips re primrose oil!

X

primrosechill · 21/07/2020 22:24

I meant to say “I have always* found” - fat fingers/tired eyes haha - night night all

Carol1980 · 22/07/2020 00:07

Thanks for the welcome ladies x

Like others have posted it's actually a relief to find couples who have this issue as well !!

I'm currently 7 dpo....second cycle of self insemination.

Thought I would tell you what I use and see if it's either a good idea or a bad one.
I use the fertility friend conceive gel although I have used preseed in the past.
I'm using a calpol mediction plunger, you know the one which doesn't have the syringe tip on it, I had read that this is a good one to use ? But only cause I had read it online.
Other than that it's just like you have all mentioned, legs up, try to orgasm etc etc

My question is.....do you not find that if you orgasm while the syringe is in that it ends up getting pushed back and you have....leakage 🙊 from the vajayjay area I mean ?

Oilyoilyoilgob · 22/07/2020 07:45

@primrosechill thank you, and I’m really sorry about your miscarriage-I hope you’re ok as that sounds like a tough six months for you 💚

It really has opened my eyes, I never quite imagined I’d be ttc this way!

Having this group of us really does make a difference, yesterday was the first time I felt at peace with this as the realisation dawned that this is the story for other people too 😊

Seeing @Carol1980 post about orgasms while the syringe is in is giving food for thought, I guess you could maybe take the syringe out just before? During our therapy we went through the very inner workings of Male and female anatomy before/during and after sex and arousal and I found out things I never knew 😄 incl about the cervix lowering and ‘dipping’ for sperm. I haven’t got to that stage yet but maybe taking the syringe out just before orgasm would be ok?

MrsKin90 · 22/07/2020 19:32

Hi everyone, I've been very much MIA recently.
Welcome @Carol1980 and @Oilyoilyoilgob! Glad you've found this thread and hopefully this method works for us all soon!

@Carol1980C - I think it's normal to have a bit of leakage. The theory is sperm get where they're going quite quickly and an orgasm just helps. I wouldn't worry about the leakage, it can't stay in there forever! That being said I do take the syringe out most of the time beforehand, just because it's even messier to remove if I leave it in until after!!

I'm CD24 and still no ovulation according to bbt which is fine as haven't tried much at all.
I very sadly lost my mum in the time I've been gone after a very stressful four weeks of all around agony. I am completely devastated and not surprised my egg is evading me. We still inseminated today as I had EWCM and thought we should try if we can. The positive of this method I guess being my hubby still managed to DTD even if I am not in the mood. I feel a bit lost. I wouldn't be surprised if I don't ovulate at all this cycle to be honest. I would just like a baby now please.

I haven't come to depress everyone, but just wanted to try and get back into trying and having something positive to think about!

Where is everyone else in their cycle? Good luck to anyone on the tww!

Carol1980 · 22/07/2020 20:09

@MrsKin90 really sorry to hear about your mum x
I lost my dad on Friday night there and I've just been back and forth from my mums house trying to sort things our x
I'm doing ok though, my dad was an alcoholic, heavy smoker, had a heart attack nearly 8 years ago and a stroke 2 years ago, but never ever took any of his medication so it's always been a case of when and not if 😬

It's such a weird time though x

Lori23TTC · 22/07/2020 20:12

@MrsKin90 I am so sorry to hear about your mum, I can’t imagine how you feel. Sending you lots of love in this sad time ❤️ Xxxxxx

Lori23TTC · 22/07/2020 20:13

@Carol1980 sorry to hear about your dad ❤️ Sending you lots of love too xx

MrsKin90 · 22/07/2020 20:44

Thanks ladies. Definitely a difficult time but my mum was a strong lady and didn't believe in moping so I'm doing my best to take baby steps forward and trying for a baby is a good way to get back into the real world and remember life isn't all bad!

Oh Carol I'm sorry about your dad. My mum's passing wasn't unexpected as she had a terminal diagnosis, but it came much earlier than expected (she'd been given until Xmas) and was due to complications from a different condition. It doesn't make it any easier knowing it's a when and not if. Your poor mum. Sending you lots of strength and hugs x

I didn't want to sadden the thread or anything, so I hope people don't feel awkward about carrying on talking about TTC ❤️

Carol1980 · 22/07/2020 21:04

Thank you for the well wishes but yeah I'm also conscious of not making the chat sad x

My hope is that we are successful this month as it would be such good news for my mum x

MrsKin90 · 22/07/2020 21:17

@Carol1980 I'm hoping to see some BFPs on this thread soon! The law of averages says this thread is due some! 🤞🤞

I've decided as I want to stick legs in the air for a bit after inseminating, that's a good opportunity for hubby to learn some extra cooking skills and get lunch/dinner ready whilst I perculate! Extra positives 😊

Carol1980 · 24/07/2020 01:51

@MrsKin90
Excellent idea !!

Quick question, what DPO do you guys generally test ? I'm such a testing slut, I end up buying the cheap internet ones and despite the fact that I know I'm going to be dissapointed, I end up tearing and feeling down that it's negative.....I clearly have zero will power 🤣

LuckyFlash · 24/07/2020 06:48

Sorry to hear of your losses recently.

@MrsKin90 we’re the same, we always inseminate before dinner and DH cooks while I lie legs in the air watching tv haha

@Carol1980 last month I tested at 10dpo and the bfn made me sad all day. I was kicking myself for testing early because it’s not a definitive answer. So I’m going to hold off until after AF this month.

This month I’ll be on holiday when AF is due so either it will be a lovely thing to celebrate or I’ll be able to have a good time and drink all I like so hopefully I’ll feel ok either way.

That said I’m not sure if I’ve ovulated this month. I had all the signs 3 days ago (ovulation cramps, EWCM, positive OPK) but my temps haven’t really risen since. However I’ve been sleeping appallingly (basically not at all) as work has been stressful so I’m hoping temps are off because of that. Won’t be getting my hopes too high though.

Surely one of us has to get their bfp this month!

Lori23TTC · 24/07/2020 09:24

@MrsKin90 I agree someone should get a positive soon on averages!

We tend to Inseminate when we go to bed but I do find I then feel uncomfortable during the night as I can feel it!

I’m not doing any temps this month and I’m CD18 now, I on average ovulate on CD17, last night I felt so tired and stressed (work is hard atm) that we didn’t do it, I just wanted a early night and to catch up with sleep as I to have not been sleeping well. We did it the night before so hopefully that will be ok. You sometimes just feel like you can’t do anymore mentally and physically and that’s how I felt last night. I think that’s it for us in the Fw so the tww begins! Think I might go back to bbt next month if it’s not a positive as I like to know when i ovulate!

Xx

MrsKin90 · 25/07/2020 08:57

@Carol1980 I try not to test until after AF is due. I try not to keep any tests in the house. I've had wobbles on a couple of cycles and tested 10dpo onwards but mostly I'm quite strict. My OH wants to be involved in testing and that keeps me off the crazy testing train (and firmly on the obsessively googling symptoms train instead 😂).
@LuckyFlash being on holiday when AF is due will hopefully be a good distraction? Hopefully you have O'd and see a temp rise soon. Are you going to continue inseminating until you see a temp rise?

@Lori23TTC happy tww! Fingers firmly crossed for you.
I usually ovulate by CD20, 22 at the very latest, but here I am CD26 no O. Lots of cramps the last three days and lots of watery/EWCM and an increase in libido so hopefully I do O. I wasn't sure if all the stress would have made it not happen this cycle but I do feel very ov-ish. I'm trying to look positively and think my body held off releasing an egg to give me a chance to catch this cycle (and not that all the feelings have completely ruined my hormones even more!). We'll hopefully inseminate today and hope for a big fat temp rise tomorrow or the next day!! My temps were jumping between 36.2 and 35.9 but have now levelled out at around 36 for the last three days as well so, here's hoping!

AdriannaP · 25/07/2020 09:46

I don’t want to jinx it, but I think I have a line!
Will write more later ladies.

AdriannaP · 25/07/2020 09:46

Line eyes please!

Self insemination - Any success stories?!
Carol1980 · 25/07/2020 10:21

I would say that was a faint positive, which dpo are you ? X

NellNorth · 25/07/2020 10:25

I can see a shadow of a line to the left of the test line. Is that a pregnancy test, or an ovulation test?
Hope it’s an early pregnancy test🤞🏻🤞🏻😘

AdriannaP · 25/07/2020 10:29

It’s an early pregnancy test!
I am 12 DPO, had light spotting for 5 days (just tiny bits of blood when wiping, no pads needed) and 2 days late for AF (as ovulated late.) took the test not with first morning urine though.

This would be an amazing miracle for me as I am due to start IUI or IVF in a couple of months. Will do a FRER tomorrow morning.

LuckyFlash · 25/07/2020 11:12

I see it @AdriannaP - everything crossed for you!! Definitely get a FRER

Carol1980 · 25/07/2020 11:13

Fingers crossed for you x

I totally caved and took a cheap test today, negative but I'm only 10dpo today.

Anyone else get really hacked offf with the abundance of women who seem to say that they got a strong positive at 9/10dpo? Honestly ladies who are you trying to kid, you obviously got your dates wrong if that's the case, even with my last pregnancy I didn't get a proper positive until about 14dpo 🙄

AdriannaP · 25/07/2020 11:19

Thank you @LuckyFlash I really hope it worked this month. Would love to spare myself (and my savings account) IVF

AdriannaP · 25/07/2020 11:20

My last two pregnancies I only got positives 14-18 DPO.
